Your Skin But Better

Spring is upon us, so what better time of year to to rock a light, healthy-looking base? I've also included my favourite products for making my skin look fresher and more glowing, which are essential if I'm going for a natural look.

Skincare

My main skincare goal at the moment is for my skin to be hydrated and look glowing, however I am combination so I also don't want anything that's too heavy or greasy. Acid exfoliants are the perfect way to remove dead skin cells and reveal a fresher complexion so I have two of these products in the mix, as well as a couple of others that give my skin a healthy glow.

REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask | £32 | This translucent gel-like face mask contains both Glycolic and Lactic Acid. It's one of those products that gives you instant results; you just apply it and leave for around 10 minutes and rinse. Once removed I notice an incredible improvement in the texture and appearance of my skin - it give instant radiance as well as getting rid of any dry patches.

Pixi Glow Tonic | £18 | When I don't feel like or don't have time for a full-on face mask; this is my AHA quick fix. Whilst it doesn't give quite such dramatic results, this is great for giving a bit of a glow boost and evening out the skin's texture and tone (as well as fading imperfections in the long-term). I use this after cleansing when my skin is a bit lacklustre.

Pai Bioregenerate Rosehip Oil* | £22 | This is a lightweight but incredibly effective facial oil that I often use overnight. It's so hydrating, leaving my skin soft, smooth and moisturised without being greasing. At the same time it also gives my skin that radiance and helps to improve the appearance of any blemish scars.

Pixi Glowtion Day Dew* | £24 | This is a really interesting moisturiser, unlike any product I've tried before. It has a lightweight, lotion texture, which leaves the skin looking and feeling fresh. As well as being hydrating, it also contains a very subtle sheen, giving the skin a natural, luminous glow.

Prepping & Priming

One of my favourite things to do (because I have combination skin) is to use a satin or matte finish foundation but pair it with a hydrating, luminous primer or cream. When my skin is drier, I go for 'hydrating' on both counts! Although one or two of these products are traditional primers, most of them are skincare-makeup hybrids that can be worn underneath your base or mixed in with a foundation or tinted moisturiser.

MAC Strobe Cream in Goldlite | £24.50 | swatch | This priming moisturiser has the most gorgeous gold shift to it. As well as having a moisturising texture (that's nothing too rich or heavy), it gives a natural, dewy glow. It doesn't look like there's glitter on your face or anything like that, it's just a very natural sheen. You can use it as a two in one primer and moisturiser, after your skincare or mixed in with your foundation.

Too Faced Hangover Primer | £27 | I'm sure I'm boring regular readers to death with my talk of this primer! However it deserves another mention here - it's a lightweight, almost lotion-like product. Whilst it may not do a lot to fill in your pores, it leaves my skin soft, smooth and hydrated. It ensures my base doesn't cling to any dry patches as well. This is also one of those primers you can use even without foundation on top when you're having a 'no makeup' day.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter | £32 | This seems to have become the ultimate glow-y primer in the blogosphere, probably thanks to Jaclyn Hill! It's a seriously luminous but glitter-free primer with a moisturising formula. You don't need to apply too much of it, or you may risk looking greasy, but it's one of those products that makes a 'can't put your finger on it' difference.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal | £34 | This is essentially a liquid highlighter but you can use it in a number of ways; on top of or in place of a primer, mixed in with your foundation or used on top of your foundation like a normal highlighter for a very natural dewy finish. This comes in a wide range of shades, so I think there's a colour in the collection for everyone. I personally love Opal, a sort of pearly cool-toned gold with very slightly peach undertones. It gives such a fresh, glowing look to the skin no matter how you wear it.

Makeup

Onto makeup; obviously there are a load of base products in here to give your that naturally flawless finish. I've also thrown in a few cheek products that I gravitate towards for a fresh-faced look.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (St Moritz) | £30 | review | Ok, so it's another product I don't stop going on about! It's funny because I originally picked this up for a summer holiday, however it's since become my go-to in colder weather. It's so hydrating (but not shiny), lightweight and natural. It evens out the skin tone without looking like you're wearing much makeup at all. It makes my skin look healthy and radiant and is in fact the product that turned me to the concept of 'your skin but better'! Combination and oily types will want to set this with powder in any problem areas but overall it's long-wearing.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation (4.5 Warm Natural) | £34 | review | This is the perfect option if you want a bit more coverage than the Nars. It still has an incredibly natural finish that blends into the skin as opposed to sitting on top of it (probably because it has a very watery formula). It evens out the skin tone, giving a perfected look whilst still allowing it to breathe. It's not the most long-wearing formula on my skin, however I know drier girls will love this.

Clinique Chubby in the Nude Stick Foundation (Grandest Golden Neutral) | £23 | review | This is a stick foundation but isn't at all heavy, like some other formulas. It gives a glowing look without having a greasy or dewy finish (though I do find it lets through some oiliness around the t-zone after a few hours of wear), which is fairly unusual. It's definitely a foundation and gives you a good light-medium coverage, however looks incredibly natural.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup (4W1) | £28 | review | This is probably the most full-coverage option in this post, but don't be fooled by the name, because despite having the longevity of the original matte formula - it has little in common with its namesake. This is a much more natural skin-like formula; neither dewy nor satin/matte. It gives a medium coverage and a healthy, flawless look to the skin without masking it.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (Medium Neutral) | £19 | review | Obviously my favourite concealer is in this post! It's just so natural, so easy to blend and so hydrating without being thin or greasy. It has amazing, long-lasting coverage whilst still looking incredibly natural on the skin. It never looks dry or cakes under my eyes either.

Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand (Shade 3) | £29 | An under-eye brightener is an everyday essential for me and I'm currently using Charlotte Tilbury's. It also has a decently-hydrating eye cream on the other end. The highlighting concealer end has surprisingly good coverage and as well as giving a brightening effect it also has a slightly peachy tone to it, meaning it also corrects.

No7 Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter | £9.95 | This is a criminally-underrated product! It's a cream (but not at all greasy or glittery) formula that has the most stunning, natural metallic sheen. It just gives my skin a subtle, sun-kissed glow, which I love.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso | £10 | This is one of those 'barely there' blusher shades that's perfect for a natural look. It has such a lovely, smooth formula with a natural, luminous sheen without any glitter. It gives the cheeks such a healthy glow.

  8. Love makeup that gives you a nice healthy glow. I have combination skin too, so it's hard to find products which mattify certain areas, whilst moisturising others. I also have issues finding good foundations - "dewy" finishes make my skin look oily, whilst "matte" finishes make me look ashy - this list is defo helpful! I've found the Vichy range is great though to help prep and prime the skin!

  23. I actually find that Luminoso is pretty intense on my fair skin, but I love it! It's a very "there" blusher, but I think it gives me the most beautiful flush. Also the NARS tinted moisturizers really appeal to me, I might have to pick some up eventually.

  26. There are so many good options here!

I've had the Pixi Glow Tonic for ages, but it's only in the last few weeks that I see a result from it. The Pai oil has been on my list for years, but I've become so comfortable using the Trilogy Rosehip oil, but I need to try so many of these.

Milani blushers look so beautiful! It's unreal.
