Streamlined Skincare

Ok, so when I say ‘streamlined’, I mean ‘beauty blogger streamlined’! These are the products I reach for when I don’t any specific concerns that need addressing (with a mask or treatment), that I just can always rely on to do the job. They’re the essential steps to my routine that I wouldn’t cut out unless I was running veeeerryyy late or I was practically unconscious...

PM

Remove Face Makeup: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil | £24 | There's always some sort of oil-based cleanser in the mix for me and my current weapon of choice for makeup removal is this one from DHC. After having somehow racked up about 4 samples of this and having used them all up, I invested in the full-sized product. It doesn't have a scent and is very lightweight (when I remove it with a muslin cloth there's no excess left behind). It's incredibly gentle and doesn't sting my eyes when I take off my liner and mascara. It's also so effective and removes 99.9% of my face makeup.

Remove Eye MakeupBioderma Sensibio H2O | £19.50 | I always go in with Bioderma on the eyes because I can get right up in between my lashes to take everything off with a cotton wool pad. This is the original (or at least the most famous) micellar water, which is amazing at removing makeup whilst being just as gentle as water on the skin and around the eyes.

Cleanse: REN Clearcalm3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser | £19 | This is an old favourite of mine that I often forget to mention because it's such an ingrained part of my routine! It's a clay-formula cleanser that calms down sensitive, red areas of my skin as well as reducing blemishes. It has such an unusual liquid-clay formula that's unlike anything I've ever used before. A bottle also goes a long way: I've been using this nearly every day for the past two years and I'm only on my second!

Tone & ExfoliatePixi Glow Tonic | £18 | Most of the time I don't have to use a proper manual face scrub and that's thanks to this fruity-smelling, funny-coloured acid toner. It gently removes dead skin cells, clearing up dry patches but at the same time helps to fade any old blemishes you may have and uneven skin tone. This is the product I'd recommend to anyone just starting to try out AHAs and BHAs because it contains an everyday-friendly 5% glycolic acid. Personally, I use this every other night and opt for a face mist on the days in-between.

Night CreamThe Ordinary Retinol 1% | £5.80 | I have a full post on the Ordinary you can check out here but this is a product that's made it into my routine. It has a really unusual gel-like texture but actually feels quite hydrating once applied to the skin. This is amazing for keeping my skin clear, smooth and even, whilst also being incredibly gently. I don't use this every single night - I often will alternate it with a simple, hydrating moisturiser (usually the one from the Ordinary, which you can read about in the post I linked) every other evening.

Lip BalmNuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm | £9.50 | I honestly use this lip balm every night without fail and have been doing for a good 18 months and I'm only just reaching the end of my original tub! It's quite a heavy formula (which is why I use it overnight) but it's honestly so nourishing. I rarely have to use a lip scrub because this is amazing at taking care of any dry patches and I pretty much never get chapped lips these days! It leave my lips so soft and smooth by the time I wake up in the morning.

CleanseGlossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | $18 | UK shipping | This has pretty much replaced the nice-but-overpriced Oskia cleanser in my routine! I'm really enjoying using this lightweight gel-like formula. It doesn't emulsify but stays a jelly consistency. I personally find it leaves my skin looking and feeling fresh, clean and soft. It doesn't have a strong scent and the packaging is pretty 'no-frills' but that's essentially what I want from a morning cleanser: something quick, easy and effective.

ToneHerbivore Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist | $32 | I almost always opt for a quick and easy spray instead of a proper toner in the morning. I actually picked up the mini of this in New York but the full size I liked is available on Sephora's website which ships to the UK (otherwise the Mario Badescu Spray does a similar job). This is a water-light, non-sticky facial mist that's packed full of amazing ingredients: coconut water, hibiscus flower, rose, witch hazel and aloe vera. It's so soothing and hydrating, instantly softening and calming my skin.

SerumAvene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum* | £17 | This is probably one of my all-time favourite serums; it has a water-based gel texture that hydrates without overloading my combination skin. It's fast-absorbing and takes care of any dry patches as well as making my skin look healthier with fewer visible dehydration lines.

MoisturiseCaudalie Vinosource Moisturising Matifying Fluid* | £23 | This is another amazing product for combination skin; it has a cream-gel formulation that's so refreshing and hydrating. It's nothing heavy or rich but plumps up the skin nicely and provides a soft, smooth base for your makeup. It helps reduce the appearance of shine but isn't at all drying. It's essentially the perfect product to balance out my skin.

Eye CreamPhilosophy Take a Deep Breath Oxygenating Eye Gel-Cream* | £24 | This eye cream is the perfect balance of being nice and moisturising but not rich or greasy. It's fast-absorbing and ensures that the makeup under my eyes doesn't look caky. It wakes up my entire eye area, making it feel refreshing and reducing any puffiness.

Lip BalmCaudalie Lip Conditioner | £5.50 | I know it can be hard to get excited about simple lip balms but I've really been loving this one I picked up at the Caudalie Spa (more about that visit at a later date...) It looks like your standard stick lip balm but is full of natural ingredients and has the most moisturising texture without being even slightly waxy. It has this gorgeous, slightly fruity scent and makes my lips so soft!

  3. Multi purpose products come handy when I want to keep my skincare routine simple. I use Pixi toner almost everyday, except the days I use liquid gold. It leaves the skin looking brighter and softer! Also Nuxe lip balm before going to bed is a must have, when I skip it my lips feel extremely dry. x

  4. I use a lot of the La Roche Posay Toleriane range as I find any fragrance irritates my skin. Along with Bee Good's Creamy Cleanser (5th/6th tube and counting!) this is pretty much my go to routine. Oh and Clinique All About Eyes Rich (can tell I have irritable skin!) and REN's magical glycolic mask. Great post as always x

  11. That REN cleanser is one of my absolute favourites! No matter what other cleansers I try, I nearly always go back to this one for my morning cleanser.

I also really love the Pixi Glow Tonic; I'm already nearing the end of my second bottle.

  14. I love this! You feel like you've cut back to the "essentials," then you're six products into your night time skin care! I just photographed my morning skin care routine a few days ago, and there are so many products, it's ridiculous.

I'm hoping to add more Caudalie to my stash, and I use a lot of REN. I use the Bio Retinoid, but I've since moved to traditional retinol, so I like the sound of the Ordinary gel.

  15. For my skincare routine I tend to use only a few products I know I can rely on to keep my skin okay. The Glow Tonic and the Nuxe lipbalm are part of my routine, especially the lip balm as like you, I use it every evening to moisturise in depth. I also use it (in a thin coat) before applying liquid lipstick, it helps keep the lips moisturised all day - other ways very matte lipsticks tend to dry my lips out after a few hours and it looks horrible haha.
