Dry Skin Rescue

It's that time of year again; when dry skin starts to plague most of us! These are my top products for combatting the dryness, whether it's with makeup, skincare or body products.

Body Care

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil | £18 | I must include this in every 'dry skin'-related post, but it's still worth a mention here! It's an oil-based body wash that's so nourishing on my skin. It's best applied to dry skin before rinsing off (because it emulsifies) and I like to concentrate on massaging it into places like my knees and elbows that are the most in need of moisture.

Simply Argan Coffee and Argan Scrub with Coconut Oil & Vanilla* | £25 | This is definitely the nicest-smelling coffee scrub I've ever tried. It's a great product for first thing in the morning because it's so invigorating. It is a bit messy but I don't mind much when I'm in the shower anyway! I'd say you can get up to 8 full-body applications out of this. It's essentially ground-down coffee beans and amazing skincare ingredients. This is so effective at removing dead skin and leaves my skin incredibly smooth. The argan and coconut oils also ensure my skin is soft and nourished.

Vichy Ideal Body Serum-Milk* | £16 | This is the perfect everyday option for busy mornings when I'm just out of the shower and can't be bothered messing around with oils. It's a very lightweight formula and 'serum-milk' pretty much sums up it's feel and appearance. It's fast-absoring and so much more hydrating than you'd expect from the texture. It's packed full of hyaluronic acid, oils and shea butter to give lasting relief from dry skin.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil | £28 | This is a multi-use product but I love it best for the body. You really don't need too much of this to turn dry skin soft and smooth. It's so amazing at giving long-lasting nourishment without leaving any greasy excess on my skin.

Weleda Skin Food* | £9.95 | This is a multipurpose oil-based cream that can be used to treat any dry patches on your body. I tend to apply it to problem areas instead of everywhere, like on my elbows, ankles and I also really like it for my hands. I've been keeping it on my desk so I can reach for it whenever I need it. It's quite a heavy product that you can definitely feel on the skin, so for me it's mainly an overnight product. However it does such a good job of nourishing deep into the skin; when I use this for my hands on a morning when I'm not doing anything much, regardless of how many times I wash them, I won't need to re-apply anything until bedtime.

Weleda Everon Lip Balm* | £3.95 | This is a really lovely everyday lip balm. It gives the hydration without being thick or heavy on my lips. It also doesn't leave a weird film like some formulas do, so whatever lipstick I want to put on top of it will apply as normal.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm | £9.50 | This product barely needs an introduction on my blog! I've actually just picked up a fresh one and it's in this gorgeous limited edition packaging. It's a fairly heavy, but more intensely nourishing formula, so I use it before bed. It pretty much guarantees I'll wake up with soft, smooth, hydrated lips.

Skincare

Dermo28 Hydra Source Foam Cleanser* | £28 | This is a really great morning cleanser for this time of year because it's hydrating as well as being nice and refreshing. It's packed full of great ingredients like polemo, lichen, zinc and vitamin B3 to leave the skin soft, moisturised and soothed. You only need 1-2 pumps and I love how using this makes my skin so clean but not at all stripped. It's especially perfect for combination skin like mine because it takes away any dirt or oils and gives hydration without being rich.

Benecos Aloe Vera Cleansing Milk* | £6.95 | This is such a bargain for a really great natural skincare product. My only little gripe is that the packaging makes it a bit tricky to control how much product comes out. However the formula itself is lightweight but still nourishing. It's also so soothing, which is why aloe vera is one of my absolute favourite skincare ingredients in the winter. It definitely helps calm down any angry redness.

Benecos Aloe Vera Cleansing Gel* | £6.95 | Don't let 'cleansing gel' put you off because this all-natural formula isn't what you'd expect compared to other gel-based formulas. It's not at all stripping and leaves my skin soft and looking healthy. It's pretty much perfect if you have oilier skin and want something that's still going to give that really clean feeling whilst helping your skin retain moisture and calming down any sensitivity.

Dermo28 Gentle Mask* | £40 | I actually first tried this product on one of the first properly freezing cold days of this winter. I got home from work and my skin felt sore and prickly. The first thing I wanted to do was to go upstairs, take my makeup off and replace it with something really calming; so I reached for this. It's a cream-based mask that feels so nice on the skin if you suffer from sensitivity in the cold. It also really moisturises my skin (I leave it on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing). My only gripe is that it is the most pricey of the mask options in this post and I wouldn't say that I think this is better than those.

REN Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask* | £28 | I've actually had this mask for a while but I was holding off talking about it until it was released, and it's helped my skin so much over the past couple of months! Around this time last year I mentioned on my blog that my skin had a total meltdown; it was itchy, covered in bumps and incredibly sensitive to the cold. This is a cream-gel face mask I've been using once a week and whenever I've felt the weather has been particularly harsh on my skin. I've noticed much less redness and it has an instant calming effect. I also find it intensely moisturising and that it leaves my skin plumped, radiant and soft. Basically; it's a great all-rounder for winter skin.

Caudalie Moisturising Mask* | £22 | Yes, it's another moisturising mask option, because my skin needs all the help it can get at the moment. Although this is nicely calming, I'd say it's less about soothing sensitivity and more about giving your skin amazing moisture with this product. The formula is essentially like a thick moisturiser and over the time I leave it on for (10-15 minutes), it slowly absorbs into my skin. Once I rinse it off my skin is soooo much softer and more hydrated, probably thanks to the grape water which is in all Caudalie products. It's amazing if you're suffering from tired or dull skin this winter.

Dermo28 Recovery Cream* | £59 | I've pretty much been using this moisturiser every day because during the colder months I want something that's as moisturising as possible whilst being as lightweight as possible and this fits the bill. You don't need to apply much product and it absorbs nicely into my skin without any greasiness, plus I really like how my makeup applies on top of it. It's very soothing on the patches where I suffer from sensitivity and get a bit red, plus it doesn't contain any irritating fragrances. It also claims to protect the skin from environmental factors, so we will see over time if it does! The ingredients include vitamin C and E, which I find help my skin look healthier and any little lines appear less visible.

Benecos Aloe Vera Face Fluid* | £8.95 | This is another bargain from Benecos from the soothing aloe vera collection. As the name suggests, this isn't a thick cream but is a lightweight, hydrating water-based moisturiser. It's very calming on the skin and absorbs easily. I really like the texture of this and how it feels on the skin, however I do have to give it a good amount of time to settle before I go in with my primer and foundation (this is because most foundations contain oils, whereas this product is water-based so you can get a 'peeling' separating effect) which is the only negative I have.

Pai BioRegenerate Rosehip Oil* | £22 | This is fast-becoming one of my favourite skincare products...like, ever! It has such a lightweight texture and doesn't smother the skin at all. I use it overnight and it has the most amazing plumping, hydrating effect. It's also has the added bonus of helping to fade old blemish scars. My skin looks so much more glowing when I use this too, which is great during the sun-deprived months of winter!

Makeup

Too Faced Hangover Primer | £27 | This is my favourite winter primer; it has a cream formula that's very light and you need at most 2 pumps for the entire face. It moisturises and softens the skin, hydrating any dry patches and ensuring my base glides on smoothly. It also stops things getting dry later on in the day and prevents makeup from settling into any fine lines or looking caky. I also find it nice and calming when my skin is a bit more sensitive.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (St. Moritz) | £29.50 | I won't bore you too much talking about this product yet again but this is pretty much my go-to daytime base in the winter months. It's so moisturising without being overly dewy and never looks greasy on my skin. It gives a radiant finish, almost like 'my skin but better'.

Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm in Perfect Nude* | £7.99 | Lanolips products have been a bit of a revelation for me this winter! Their products all contain the hydrating lanolin ingredient and this is a glossy-finish (but not thick or sticky-textured) tinted lip balm in a pinky-mauve nude shade. It's fairly sheer but is perfect on those days when your lips are a bit sore and chapped so you just want something hydrating that will add a wash of colour.

Korres Lip Butter in Quince | £8 | I've been seeing these lip butters on The Makeup Directory for ages and finally got round to picking one of the shades up. This is a lovely, moisturising formula that leaves my lips so soft. This formula isn't really opaque but adds a nice rosy hint of colour.

  3. If you like the Vichy Ideal Body Serum Milk, I cannot but recommend the balm from the same range, I would say they are both as fast-absorbing but the balm has a more unique texture, at least in my opinion! The Dermo 28 Recovery Cream sounds really lovely, I haven't heard of it before but it sounds like the perfect day moisturizer!
