Getting Your Skin Party-Ready

As party season gets underway, I thought I'd share my facial skincare routine for when I want my skin to look its best. If you have a special occasion coming up, there's nothing worse than having a bad skin day, so this is how I like to avoid that happening!

The Night Before

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask | £10 | review | Obviously the first thing I think of when my aim is to have good skin is getting rid of any spots. This mask is my absolute fail-safe product for clearing up breakouts (which is amazing, as it's such a bargain!) It feels pretty invigorating but I just leave it on for 10-15 minutes then rinse. If I do this the night before then I know that by morning my skin will be 10x clearer, with almost all my blemishes completely gone and any larger ones reduced significantly (so they can be hidden with a bit of concealer).

Lush Lip Scrub | £5.75 | I pretty much always wear a matte lip for an evening makeup look so of course it's essential to ensure my lips are soft and free from any dry patches or dead skin. In reality, you can make something like this yourself with a bit of sugar and Vaseline, but I have this one from Lush which I find to be gentle and effective.

Roger and Gallet Aura Mirabilis Double Extract* | £40 | review | This is a sort of oil-in-serum product so needs a bit of a shake before use. I love this stuff because it’s basically a ‘good skin day’ bottled! It has quite a watery consistency but does need a bit of time to fully absorb. However essentially when I use this overnight, I wake up with smoother, more radiant and hydrated skin.

Dr Botanicals Advanced Overnight Purifying Masque* | £39.99 | review | This is the second part of my good skin duo – it is billed as a mask but the texture is that of a lightweight moisturiser; it’s nothing too rich and doesn’t leave a greasy residue on my skin. I find a small amount of this leaves my skin looking and feeling so healthy and soft. It’s also really good for plumping out any dehydration lines I might have.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm | £9.50 | review | Of course the last skincare step before bed is my trusty Nuxe lip balm. This is amazing, especially for this time of year, because it really nourishes your lips leaving them soft and free from dryness by morning. Also, I’ve been using this almost every single night before bed for over a year and it’s still going strong!

On the Day

REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask | £32 | review | Of course this old favourite is in the mix! It’s just the most amazing AHA-based exfoliating face mask and it’s one of those products that gives you instant results – exactly what you want when you need to be looking your best. It only takes 10-15 minutes to work and though some people say they get a bit of tingling, I personally don’t. It leaves my skin looking noticeably more glowing, so is perfect if you’re suffering from dull winter skin.

Magnitone Precious Collection Facial Cleansing Brush in Glittery Gold* | £70 | + Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser | £18 | review | I must admit I fall in and out of love with brush cleansers, however the Magnitone is definitely a ‘love’ and I make sure to use it a couple of times a week. It has the standard setting as well as a pulse version and it tells you when to move on to the next part of your face, as well as stopping once the time you’re supposed to use it for is up. I really love the gold design of this limited edition version I have and the fact you can get 2 replacement heads for under £15 (as opposed to £20 for one from Clarisonic). Overall I’ve really noticed my skin looking clearer and healthier since I started using this. You can pair it with any cleanser you like, though I find a creamier-based formula works best and for extra glow, I’ve opted for the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser. Obviously it’s a cleanser so won’t be as intensive as a mask, but it could be a great option if you have very sensitive skin and think a full-on treatment might be too much. This is very gentle and has a unique mud-cream formula.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist | £18 | review | To tone, I have a quick spritz of this face spray by Pixi. It is a heavier mist than some, however doesn’t leave a tacky excess on my skin. It’s very nourishing and calming on the skin, ensuring everything is looking nice and hydrated.

Skyn Iceland Prep for a Perfect Party Set* | £13 | I'm a huge fan of these gel pads by Skyn Iceland so was thrilled to receive the Party set. I find the eye gels so cooling on puffy or tired eyes, making me look instantly more awake. The forehead gels provide immediate effects, helping to smooth the look of any fine lines. Although smile lines aren't something I struggle with, I did notice that makeup settled into them less when I used the firming face gels. Finally, there's the lip gels, which are meant to give a plumping effect. I don't have a huge issue with that and didn't notice a significant difference in fullness, however I can't really complain given how inexpensive this set is and all the other great products you get in it.

Avene Hydrance Optimale Serum* | £17 | review | This has been a staple in my routine for a good few months now; it’s a water-based hydrating serum that absorbs very quickly, so is suitable for more shine-prone skin. It’s very calming (if you suffer from redness or sensitivity) and does a great job at hydrating and plumping out the skin.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boost Moisturiser | £16 | review | This is a fantastic (and well-priced) gel-based moisturiser that leaves my skin looking healthy and radiant. Again, it has a fast-absorbing formula that’s not at all rich. Makeup always applies really well over this moisturiser and (as the name suggests) it just gives everything a bit of a glow-boost.

Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Oxygenating Eye Gel-Cream* | £24 | Finally, of course a bit of eye cream. This one by Philosophy is nourishing but nothing too greasy. I do have quite an oily eye area so whilst I do like to keep things hydrated, I tend not to go for really rich products. This also helps to de-puff my eyes so I look more awake.

  1. Really need to try some of these! I think it's about time I bite the bullet and get that nuxe lip balm. I hear so many good things about it, but I always feel like it's absurd to pay £10 for a lip balm. That fact about you having used it for about year has sold me though!

  3. The purifying mask sounds like a must have for me! I recently discovered the Mario Badescu drying lotion and that's now a must in my skincare for getting rid of spots before a big party.

  4. I've gone back to using my clarisonic at the moment, I know some people say it aggravates their skin but I find mine is starting to look much clearer when I use it every other day. (:

  13. Great post, I love a face mask and then really treating my skin. I love using the Radical Enzyme Peel to remove dead skin and then applying a generous amount of moisturiser and primer to keep my skin supple, hydrated and prepped for makeup. Lovely post Jasmine xxx

  18. Do you find the REN mask to be really subtle in the difference it makes to your skin or is it something more intense? I'm looking at buying it but I want something that really help with the acne scarring.
