The Day-to-Night Makeup Menu

I think all office-working beauty-lovers have that little pouch at the bottom of their handbag just in case a spontaneous after-work occasion happens, especially as we draw close to Christmas. Today I'm giving you a look into mine, as well as the products I reach for when I know I'll be heading out straight from work.

Base

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Primer | £10 | I personally prime every day, however if you know you'll be heading out straight from work then I'd definitely recommend not skipping this step. Despite the name, this isn't a super-matte primer however it gives my skin a satin finish and helps keep my t-zone free of shine. It does a pretty good job of smoothing out imperfections and definitely helps my makeup last longer.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation | £15 | I'm really glad I took the time to check out the US version of this because I really didn't like the formula or the shade selection of the Infallible Matte we have in the UK! Having said that, Nars Sheer Glow will do a similar job if you don't want to go to the trouble of getting your hands on this. Anyway, onto why it's in this post: it's a good medium-full coverage with a very easy-to-build formula. It never looks heavy or too much, and although it's matte, it isn't drying at all. It keeps my shine at bay without looking flat and I can always rely on it to still look great by the time 5pm rolls around.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer | £17.50 | My love for this concealer is well-documented on this blog! It's just such an amazing, hydrating but not greasy, high coverage but not caky formula. It works both on blemishes and under the eyes, which is a rarity for me, and most importantly it doesn't crease or rub away throughout the day.

Top it up with:

Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick | £23 | review | I love this foundation stick on its own but today we're talking about how great it is for touch-ups. It's such a quick and easy product to swipe on and buff in with a brush, as it doesn't have a thick texture. If you're like me and makeup tends to disappear on your nose (especially if you have a cold and find yourself blowing it constantly!) then this is an essential. It gives enough coverage to seamlessly make any faded spots on your face look nice and fresh again.

YSL Touche Eclat | £25 | I have serious dark circles and often, after having put on my makeup 10-12 hours earlier, by the time I'm ready to leave work I'm looking pretty tired! This highlighting concealer is very lightweight coverage but contains amazing light-reflecting particles, meaning a could of swipes of it under my eyes makes me look instantly more awake.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder | £8.99 | An oldie but a goodie! I always have this in my handbag because the size of it is so handbag-friendly, plus it's just a great powder. It has coverage but looks so traceless on the skin. It gets rid of any shine I've acquired during the day without making my base look flat, dull or powdery.

Cheeks

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop | £32 | Ok, not everyone feels comfortable with this level of highlight during the day, however I find it can give a really natural look if used with a fan brush. It's a gorgeous formula that blends out beautifully on the skin with no chunks of glitter in sight (even after hours of wear). The shade itself is an almost universally-flattering champagne-gold tone with slightly peachy undertones.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure | £32 | I love this blusher formula and the natural luminosity it gives the skin. It blends out beautifully without going patchy and I can always trust it to stay in place on a long day (or night...) Mood Exposure is this gorgeous plummy-mauve shade that's impossible to go overboard with. It just never looks like too much and works as well with a natural makeup look as it does paired with a bold lip.

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed | £20 | I pretty much reach for this every day; it's my perfect matte bronzer. It's not too orange but still adds a nice warmth to the face, whilst also working to add a bit of definition and dimension. It's so easy to work with and the pigmentation level is perfect because you get the payoff without feeling like you need to be careful not to go overboard. It also doesn't go patchy or uneven during the day.

Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray | £22 | If you have dry skin, you can skip this step in the morning. However if (like me) you're prone to the shine then this will help keep the oils at bay, as well as stopping any smudging or transferring and helping your makeup stay in place.

Eyes

Blank Canvas  Cosmetics Master Series One Palette* | £31 | review | This is an amazing-quality palette full of matte neutral shades. There's one light gold shimmer colour (Goddess) which I use to highlight the inner corner before doing a standard workday warm, matte nude look. I use Core (a light beige-nude) across the lid, Brazen (a peachy-brown tone) as a transition colour, Cocoa (a mid-toned brown with warm red undertones) in the crease and Hickory (a neutral deep brown) on the outer corner. I love the quality of these shadows; they're long-wearing, easy to blend and have amazing colour payoff.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencils in Zero and Scorch | £15.50 each | These are my favourite eyeliners because despite the creamy and pigmented formula, once they set down they stay in place all day without smudging or transferring. Zero is a matte black that's perfect for tight-lining and Scorch is a warm golden-bronze shimmer that's perfect for a soft look on the lower lash line.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £7.99 | Oh course this had to be in the mix! It's the perfect all-in-one for me, giving me amazingly long, curled lashes whilst adding some volume without clumping. It doesn't flake or end up a smudgy mess by the end of the day and definitely holds a curl.

Top it up with:

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Kathleenlights | $5 | I love ColourPop's eyeshadow formula; it has a spongy cream consistency that you can apply quickly and easily with just your finger. I love shimmer shades like this because you can pack them onto the lid for immediate impact. To take my everyday neutral eye to the next level, I like to pat this onto the centre of the lid. It's a gorgeous warm gold tone with an amazing, dewy metallic finish.

LA Splash Art Ki Tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner* | £11.25 | This eyeliner has been my obsession recently! It's very precise, allowing me to do a sharp winged liner look and it's very pigmented with a completely matte finish. It has such a long-wearing formula and for me winged liner essential for an evening eye look.

Ardell Demi Wispie Lashes | £5.49 | review | Annoyingly I can't seem to find the backups I thought I had of these lashes, however be sure to check out my post featuring these. If it's a proper night out then I'll pack a pair of lashes because they're a surefire way to look ready to go out! These are long, fluttery lashes that have quite a natural look, though I do tend to trim them down so they're more like 3/4 lashes.

Lips

Lancome Juicy Shaker Lipgloss in Vanilla Pop | £18 | During the day, I really like something hydrating and fuss-free that I don't have to worry about re-applying every couple of hours. This dual-phase tinted lip oil gives a glossy look to the lips as well as a hint of rosy-berry colour.

Switch to:

MAC Matte Lipstick in Mehr | £15.50 | For the evening I swap it for something a little more bold and matte. Mehr is a gorgeous deep, dusky pink shade that you can wear as easily to the office as you can on a night out. This shade has a very creamy and comfortable formula but still lasts me a good 3-4 hours before I need to touch it up.

Who knows, I might do a post anyway with my choices just to humour myself haha! I would deffo include a shimmery Super Shock Shadow and OMG have I neglected Mehr...

  22. I looove these picks. I normally transform my looks to night just with a bold lip and maybe adding a darker eyeshadow on my outer edges. I'm a little lazy with touch ups hehe.
