My Holiday Beauty Picks | Italy Edit

Tomorrow I'm off to Florence, on a bit of a impromptu lastminute.com kind of trip, however I'm so excited! I went to Florence and Pisa 6 or so years ago and loved it, so I'll be sure to do a post on the trip this time round. I thought I'd give you a little peak at the products I'll be taking for our 5 nights there. It's not every single product (because I don't want to just repeat what was in other posts I've done this Summer and if you know me, you already know my Urban Decay concealers MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural and Stila eyeliner are in there!) but these are the edited highlights.

Makeup

KIKONeo Noir Divine Tone Face Serum in 02 Medium/Dark | £18.90 | I know this is billed as a serum but to me this is an illuminating primer. It’s almost like the Becca Backlight Priming Filter but not quite as ‘greasy’ (I like some glow but the Becca quite often made me look shiny, which isn’t what I want in the heat!) It gives a really subtle radiance and contains a very fine golden shimmer. It’s nice mixed in with or applied under a matte base to just add that bit of glow whilst still having a long-lasting finish.  I think I’ll be using this in the evenings.

Hylamide Matte 12 Primer* | £23 | This is going to be my everyday primer. I absolutely love this stuff and it can even act as an all-in-one if you want to skip the moisturiser. It doesn’t contain silicone so won’t do that ‘peeling’ thing if you have your sunscreen on already. It just really evens out my skin, keeping the shine at bay and providing a great foundation for the rest of my makeup.

Cover FX Mattifying Anti-Blemish BB Gel* | £35 | This is becoming one of those products on my blog that needs no introduction! It's my go-to everyday base for Summer days because it's so lightweight, matte, long-lasting and it doesn't break me out. It really evens out my skin tone and gives surprisingly good coverage but doesn't suffocate my skin or melt off in the heat. Whether I'm relaxing by the pool or wandering around the city and just want a bit of makeup on, this is going to be perfect.

ColourPop Cheek Shock Bronzer in Carry On | $8 | I'm in love with ColourPop's cream bronzers; the formula is just incredible! It's almost like a mousse or a cream-to-matte in that it isn't greasy or slippery in the slightest but still glides onto the skin smoothly. I tend to apply it with a synthetic brush on the outer parameters of my face to give a really natural warmth. It's a gorgeous warm matte brown colour that's spot-on for an everyday look on my skin tone.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face Palette | £48 | I feel bad every time I mention this due to it being Limited Edition but at the time of writing this it is still in stock on Space NK! Otherwise you can always try in-store for the Split Pans with these shades. This has everything I really need in terms of blusher and highlighter. There are a few options in here but it's still all in one compact little palette. I have one Luminous blush: Rose Spritz, which is a gorgeous rose-pink with a golden sheen running through it. It has the most beautiful, easy-to-blend formula, just like the Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfectors. There are two Mineral blushes: Amaretto (a gorgeous matte-look warm brown nude) and Pamplemousse (a vibrant hot pink matte). In terms of highlighters, there are two of the incredible, dewy, high-impact Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfectors: the legendary Champagne Pop (a peachy champagne-gold) and Prosecco Pop (a true warm gold).

No7 Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter | £9.95 | I know this is excessive but I'm also packing this just in case I want a really easy, natural, few-swipes-and-I'm-done highlight. This has the most beautiful metallic sheen and contains not a hint of glitter. It never feels greasy and it never looks like too much. It's a beautiful pearly golden-bronze colour that's perfect for the summer.

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Sunset Blvd | $5 | This is my go-to light wash of colour. I know it won't crease or fade and it just adds a little 'something'. This is ColourPop's beautiful, unique cream eyeshadow formula that's not overly thin and greasy or too thick and mousse-y. I just apply it with my finger and it goes on perfectly. This is a Pearlised finish in a warm nude-golden-bronze.

Makeup Geek Travel Vault Palette | £11.50 with Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Pans | £4.95 each, Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pan | £7.95, Anastasia Beverly Hills Single Eyeshadows  | $12 each and MAC Eyeshadow Pan | £10 | I probably won't be wearing a great deal of eye makeup during the day so I've packed my Makeup Geek magnetic palette with more evening-appropriate shades, though there are still a couple in here that really work as one-wash colours.

Frappe is just my perfect caramel brown crease colour; it’s pigmented and blends so beautifully, especially given that it’s a really affordable matte eyeshadow. Grandstand is a Foiled formula so is a little more expensive but it’s this stunning copper that’s so metallic and dewy in finish that you can just wear it alone. Although Glisten looks similar when swatched, it’s a much more muted bronze-nude that has a subtle shimmer so is a more everyday one-wash shade. If you find MAC’s All That Glitters a little too cool for you then this is a similar but deeper and warmer alternative. Shimma Shimma is my go-to off-white shimmery highlight for the inner corner. Woodwinked is a beautiful warm bronze/antique gold shimmer that isn’t quite so creamy as the other formulas I have in here but is amazingly long-wearing.

Peach Smoothie kicks up some fallout but this light peach matte shade isn’t chalky and just adds so much dimension to a look when used as a transition colour. Red Earth is an understated but amazing muted pinky-brown matte shade that I love as a crease colour if I’m doing a more smoky look. Cognac is a beautiful, very creamy-textured reddish-brown shimmer that can be worn all over the lid for an evening look. Truffle is a plummy-purple shimmer that I love for a smoky eye look. Finally there’s Deep Plum, which is again amazing for a more evening-appropriate look. It’s a matte shade so I use it for deepening the crease a little bit.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara | £7.99 | Whilst I don’t find the original smudges and smears on me, I do always switch it for the waterproof version when I go on holiday. I have hayfever and very sensitive eyes, plus there’s the heat and the pool! Whilst it’s a little clumpier and crispier, I can deal with it because it does really work. I still get incredible length, volume and curl which lasts all day long.

Benefit Gimme Brow Gel* | £18.50 | I rave about this one all the time but thought I’d just give it another mention because it’s so great for those lazy days by the pool or when you just want to get out and explore and not have to faff around with your makeup too much. It has a tiny brush and isn’t too crispy or thick in texture so it’s pretty much fool-proof. It gives my brows a natural tint and holds them in place without feeling like I just put hair gel on them!

Clarins Instant Light Lip Oil in Red Berry* | £18 | This is one of those products I always reach for when I’m travelling or away because it’s a really great all-in-one. It makes my lips feel soft and nourished, adds a little tint of rosy red colour and gives a glossy finish.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 12 Orange Shimmer* | £18 | This one is limited edition so grab it whilst you can! I’d actually never tried these famous lip glosses before because I don’t really do gloss, however I had heard Viviannadoesmakeup really rave about these so I was looking forward to trying them out. These are the perfect non-sticky sheer lip for people who don’t generally like glosses. It’s not at all thick or gloopy and I love the packaging and applicator. It does have a very fine shimmer in it, however that doesn’t translate to the lips, it just makes them look fuller and adds some dimension. This orange ice lolly kind of shade is perfect for a summer holiday.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Honey | £19 | This is my absolute favourite tinted lip balm with SPF. I love the natural-but-still-there warm nude shade and the super-nourishing formula. It’s one of those shades I can always reach for and I just know it will work for me. It is only SPF 15 so I keep it topped up throughout the day to stop my lips from burning.

ColourPop Lippie Stix in Polite Society | $5 | Shipping Information | I’m sorry to say that this was limited edition and isn’t available but I still wanted to mention it because it’s such a perfect holiday shade. I’m a huge fan of ColourPop’s Matte Lippie Stix as they’re so affordable but very creamy and pigmented. I would say it’s slightly more of a satin finish than a true matte on the lips, however that works for me because it isn’t at all drying. Polite Society is a coral-peachy shade somewhere between a bright and a nude.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Jane | £24 | This is a very creamy but completely opaque lipstick formula. It does have a bit of a sheen so isn't the longest lasting (due to it also being a semi-bright shade). It's a very warm terracotta tone I know I'll wear a lot in the evenings.

Ofra x Kathleenlights Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever | $20 | Shipping Information | This a slightly mousse-y liquid lipstick that goes on very opaquely. It isn’t too drying when first applied but I’d recommend using a lip balm if you need to re-apply it (I’d say this lasts around 4 hours on me before I want to touch-up).  However you can layer this without it going flaky or looking odd. The shade Miami Fever is just so unique and screams ‘Summer’ to me. It’s a sort of orange with burnt red undertones, which is unusual because these sorts of colours usually lean more towards red than orange. I think it will be my go-to in the evenings, along with Jane.

Skincare, Body etc.

Clarins Daily Energiser Lovely Lip Balm* | £16 | I wasn’t sure whether to class this as makeup or not but it’s so subtle that I felt it was more of a lip care item. I really love how nourishing the formula is whilst still being very light on the lips. It’s one of those ph lip products, however it’s very subtle so I couldn’t really get it to show properly in a swatch. However on me it comes out as a very sheer pinky colour not dissimilar to the floral pattern on the packaging. It’s one of those products I know I can just throw in my handbag and it’ll moisturise my lips as well as adding some colour. It also smells of peaches!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + Unifiant* | £16.50 | This is another skincare-makeup hybrid, which are always great for holidays. I'm a long-time fan of the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + because it really helps to fade blemish scars, keep my skin clean and even my skin tone and texture. I use it every single day so I'm thrilled that they've now released a tinted version. Sadly it's only in two shades! I have Medium which, squeezed onto the back of my hand, looked kind of cool-toned. However it's such light coverage that it really doesn't translate to the skin. This is true 'no makeup' makeup so the coverage is very minimal. However it's great to have something like this to do it all on a poolside day. It doesn't break down on my skin during the day which bodes well for it's staying-power in the heat.

Yes to Tomatoes Blemish-Clearing Facial Wipes* | £3.99 | If you come in after a night out or get on a plane and do your full skincare routine then congratulations: you are a better person than I! However for the rest of us mere mortals, face wipes are sometimes a necessary better-than-nothing evil. I have to say that these are up there with the Bioderma ones as the best I've tried. I was a bit worried that the 'anti-blemish' ingredients might mean that these would sting my eyes, however they're actually really gentle. They aren't small or thin; each wipe is actually really substantial so on a more minimal makeup day I only need one to be confident that my makeup is gone, or if it's after a night out then I use two. Each wipe is nice and saturated with product which means it does the job with minimal effort.

Barry M Boots Exclusive Nail Paint in Beach Keen | £3.99 | I’m pretty sure this is limited edition, which is annoying because it’s such a gorgeous shade! It’s a sort of peachy-nude colour that’s going to work with just about anything I’ll be wearing in Italy. I’d say I get 3 days completely chip-free wear out of it or 4-5 if I use a top and base coat. It doesn’t have the full on gel finish of the Gelly line but it still has a nice shiny finish. I use two coats for full opacity.

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Serum (Mini) | £2.99 | I’ve actually never seen this in mini form (and can't find it online!) but saw it on offer for a couple of pounds in Superdrug so snapped it up (I think it's around £3 usually). I use this hair serum so much but the size and packaging make it too awkward to travel with. I’m glad I found this because it means I can enjoy the lightweight hydration it gives to my dry ends whilst my hair is being exposed to the sun!

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or Shimmer Dry Oil | £19 | Ok so this is a product I’ve mentioned a lot this summer but it’s just a really great one for when you’re on holiday. It contains a fine gold shimmer to add a bit of ‘something’ if you’re going bare-legged or relaxing by the beach or pool. It smells beautiful – of the signature summery Nuxe fragrance (I even own this in perfume form, I love it that much!) To top it off the oil itself is so nourishing on my dry skin – I actually have the non-shimmery version for when the cooler weather comes round.

Roger & Gallet Bois D’Orange Hand Crème* | £6 | This is a really great mini I discovered recently that’s hand luggage-appropriate and even contains SPF 15. It’s that perfect balance; it isn’t so light and lotion-y that it doesn’t nourish my hands but it isn’t too thick to use during the daytime. It doesn’t feel greasy but really helps my dry hands and nails. It has a very light, not at all overwhelming fruity-floral scent.

Clarins Wrinkle Control Sun Protection Face Cream* | £20 | This is a little more of a first-impressions because I will be trialling all 3 of these Clarins sun protection products whilst I'm in Italy and writing up my thoughts in my August Beauty Report. I won't lie; I do find the name a little off-putting but we all know that the sun can cause premature ageing so anything that might prevent that damage is worth a go. On first impressions I really do like the texture of this; it's like a very light lotion texture. I will probably still take my La Roche-Posay one to use in the day because this is only SPF 15 (with UVA and UVB protection also) however I think I'll like this for the evenings when I don't need quite so much protection. I will let you know how it applies under makeup once I've given it a proper go.

Clarins Sun Care Radiant Oil* | £20 | This also contains broad spectrum sun protection but this time it's SPF 30, which for me personally is a good level for the body. I really like that this comes in an oil formula so I can just spray it on, rub it in and not have to worry about the dreaded white streaks!

Clarins Ultra-Soothing After Sun Gel* | £21 | Although I very rarely burn, I do still get that nasty, uncomfortable prickling sensation after a day in the sun sometimes. This feels really nice and cooling so hopefully it will offer some relief for my skin.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent | £50 | The ultimate Summer scent is of course in the mix; I can already tell that in future years it will always remind me of the holidays I’ve been on in 2016! It smells of coconuts, pineapples, sunscreen (in a good way!), amber and vanilla. It’s just amazing and so long-lasting.

Jason Wu for Caudalie Beauty Elixir Spray* | £11 | This is a cult favourite in stunning limited edition packaging. I probably prefer their Grape Water as far as a really hydrating skincare product for sensitive skin or to make your makeup look more dewy goes. However I really like using this on flights (obviously away from any other passengers); it has this fruity, minty scent that I find so relaxing and calming. It does also hydrate the skin, though this is a shorter flight so that won’t be too much of an issue. This mini is also small enough to take as one of your hand luggage items, though you can also get this version in the larger size too if you want.

Alphabet Bags Wanderlust Extra Large Pouch | £22 | Sadly a makeup mishap stained my other Alphabet Bag beyond repair *sobs*. I was on their website browsing for a replacement and in all honesty I didn’t originally want one of the larger ones. However this beautiful design really caught my eye and was only available in this size so I got it and it turns out it’s pretty much perfect for the 5-night trip I’ll be away for.
