One of my biggest makeup-realted issues is the fact that my face descends into a shiny mess in the heat! These are the products that I've discovered help keep the shine at bay in the sun.
Base
This is my favourite primer as it takes away any shine but isn't overly drying on my skin. It's a cream formula and gives my skin that satin finish that serves as the perfect base for my makeup. It definitely helps my makeup to last longer too.
Cover FX Mattifying Anti-Blemish BB Gel* | £35
I'm sure regular readers are sick to death of hearing about this but it really is that flipping good! It's so hard to find a long-lasting matte base with a lighter coverage, and a traditional tinted moisturiser isn't always going to work for combination/oily skin. Despite being so lightweight, I still feel it makes my skin look way more flawless and even. The colour match is spot on for me too. It's one of the few products that's light enough to wear to the beach in the height of summer but doesn't turn into an oil slick on my face. I also don't find it too drying despite the matte finish.
Vichy Dermablend 3D Correction Foundation* | £21.50
For me, the big downside of this foundation is that the shade range leans a little too much towards neutral for me (even the shades that seem like they'll be warm-toned) however I can kind of work with it and as this post is about long-wearing formulas, I had to give it a mention because that's one thing you can't fault it on! It has a good medium-full coverage but doesn't feel thick or caky on the skin, even in the heat. I don't know how it does it but it somehow gives the coverage without looking like you're wearing loads of makeup. The texture is quite nice and mousse-like so although it gives a matte finish, it isn't too drying. The longevity is absolutely amazing though; it keeps my face shine-free all day long and even hours later it isn't breaking up around the usual problem areas. It's such a great formula that I'm a little bit heartbroken the shade isn't quite there for me. However if you do like a more neutral tone then go for it. This is pretty great as a summer evening option; when you want that coverage but you don't want something that's going to sweat off in the heat.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer | £17.50
This is just the perfect Summer concealer! It doesn't feel too thick and heavy like the Nars sometimes can (I love you for Autumn/Winter, but in Summer you can be a bit much! I'm sorry, please forgive me...) but still packs a punch with the coverage. I don't know how it feels so light, fluffy and hydrating without being greasy or fading but it does; I'm not going to question it! What I love about this formula is that it works both on blemishes and under the eyes and once applied it isn't going to slip or slide around on my skin.
Ben Nye Luxury Banana Powder | £11.95
I used to have a lot of issues with concealer always fading under my eyes first and my eyeliner and mascara smearing in that area too. However I discovered the importance of setting under my eyes and the best product I've found for that so far is the Ben Nye powder. I apply it under my eyes and to my t-zone and around the nose (the usual problem areas) with a damp BeautyBlender and it's completely changed my makeup game. I can't believe how incredibly well everything stays in place, even in the sun! It isn't super-mattifying but it keeps the shine at bay. It has a very fine, traceless texture and the Banana shade is really brightening under the eyes too.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder | £8.99
This is the powder I always throw in my handbag for those on-the-go touch-ups. It does have coverage however it's nothing too much at all. It never looks caky, it just removes the shine in the most natural way.
Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray | £22
This is an oldie but a goodie and it makes an appearance every Summer (side note: you can also get a mini version of this for travelling). It just sets my makeup in place and ensures it stays matte that bit longer!
Cheeks
Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Ginger Pop | £17 | post
I think this blusher formula is just so underrated. It's pigmented but not too pigmented (you aren't going to look like a clown after one swipe!) it has a little bit of a sheen to it but isn't anything too shimmery. It applies and blends out with minimal effort plus it doesn't fade or go patchy on me, even in the heat. The shade itself is this gorgeous, vibrant peachy-coral tone.

Tarte 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Captivating | $28 | post
This is a matte finish but it it isn't patchy or difficult to work with at all. It gives a gorgeous, natural flush of colour to the cheeks that honestly does last me 12 hours! It's a beautiful warm peach tone that I can trust to withstand the heat.
Eyes
Urban Decay Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion | £16
I honestly underrate this even in my own makeup routine! I forgot to use it the other day and saw such a difference in the vibrancy and wear-time of my eyeshadows. It's a sheer formula and you only need a tiny amount on your eyelids to ensure a long-lasting, crease-proof eyeshadow look for as long as you want, no matter how hot it is.
The MAC eyeshadow formula isn't the creamiest and most buttery in the world, however it's amazingly pigmented and will honestly last you all day long. All That Glitters is a gorgeous nude-bronze that can be worn all over the lid without creasing.
Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in On & On Bronze | £4.99 | post
Last year, this was the only product I could truly trust to stay in place without creasing when I was on holiday. It's a really pigmented cream eyeshadow, however the formula is quite solid and although it blends out easily on the eyelids, once it sets it won't budge. I've worn this in intense heat, I've worn it literally for 24 hours and I can confirm it stays in place! The shade On & On Bronze is just that perfect multifaceted bronze-brown shimmer for everyday wear.
Clarins Waterproof Ombre Iridescente Cream Eyeshadows in 01 Golden Peach & 04 Copper Brown* | £18 each
These are absolutely stunning cream eyeshadows and unbelievably I've never come across a formula in a tube before, though it makes perfect sense as it's far more hygienic than a pot! They have this beautiful dewy finish and are so pigmented. Golden Peach is gorgeous for the daytime whereas Copper Brown is amazing for the evening. They have such a multidimensional look that they're perfect to throw on for a Summer night if you want to look like you made more effort than you did. I will be taking one of these beauties to Spain so I'll do an update of how they wear under intense heat but the signs so far are good! I tried them without primer and they still didn't crease or budge.
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black | £14.50 | post
This is my everyday eyeliner pen but it's still worth a mention here because it stays sharp and defined literally all day long. It's a very pigmented black shade and despite the inky formula, it sets down and doesn't budge at all. It doesn't transfer, smudge or wear off, making it perfect for hot Summer nights.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Stag, Smog and Underground | £15.50 each | post
Another favourite that just really deserved a mention! I love how creamy and pigmented they are on application but how they dry and don't move around or transfer at all (and I have very watery, sensitive eyes!) Stag is a matte charcoal shade for tight lining and I like to use the other two on the bottom water line; the golden-bronze Smog with a warmer look and the taupe-bronze Underground with cool-toned eyeshadows.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara | £7.99
It's no secret that Lash Sensational is my ultimate all-in-one lengthening, curling and volumising mascara. Although the Waterproof formula is a little clumpier and stiffer, it does still give me that same look whilst being 100% transfer-proof even in the heat or by the pool. It also really holds the curl amazingly well.

DeleteThis is perf for me as I'm spending a month in Miami in August, thanks! Those cream eyeshadows are absolutely gorg.
ReplyDeleteQuick Q- have you tried Benefits Porefection Primer? Do you still prefer the Soap & Glory Primer? If so I will def give it a try as it seems much better value :) xx
Liv | www.livlively.co.uk
Personally I think the Benefit is good for masking pores but less so as an overall primer, whereas the Soap and Glory isn't as smoothing on them but makes makeup apply and last better xx
DeleteOoooh those Clarins cream shadows look lovely! Beautiful colours. Have you used NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eye Primer? It's my HG, if you like the urban decay one, you'll love the NARS primer!
ReplyDeleteBeekeyper - Latest - Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector
I haven't actually, though I've heard good things. Maybe I'll give it a go next time! xx
DeleteUnfortunately, Mac All that Glitter doesn't last very long on me, yet, I love to wear it over the summer months because the shade is very summery and even when it fades away, it is still flattering! I love the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof mascara as well!
ReplyDeletehttp://fannyanddailybeauty.com
The Clarins eye shadows look amazing I actually need to try these!
ReplyDeleteLauren Ashleigh xx
How long does the banana powder last without your skin turning really oily? Most of the powders seems to disappear after a few hours under the sun. I love my lash sensational, however I haven't tried the waterproof version yet I guess it is time to lean towards waterproof. x
ReplyDeleteEla BellaWorld
It's not like a full-on matte formula, it's more to hold in place, so I set under my eyes with that then use the Bourjois on my t-zone xx
DeleteI've got to try your banana powder trick! I have issues with things staying on in the heat when it's summer here in Australia. The Clarins shadows look awesome too - it didn't even occur to me that you could get waterproof shadows!

It's just that perfect non-greasy but non-drying formula! xx
DeleteI live in Arizona and on Saturay at 9pm it was 113 degrees. I'm so used to it but I wear way less makeup in the summer. I need either light stuff or stuff that will really last this brutal weather. I love that Maybelline mascara!
ReplyDeleteNereyda│ This Girl Is Obsessed
Oh my god those Clarins eyeshadows are STUNNING! I definitely need to get myself some of those as a little treat.
ReplyDeleteI have the biggest problem finding anything that can stay on my skin in this sort of heat, not without using powder every hour.
Vickie | dearvictoria.co.uk
They're stunning - I'm already eyeing up another shade from the range...xx
DeleteI need that UD spray, especially as it's oil controlling as well! Mini travel size you say? I'm all for it!

ReplyDeleteLeah And Rachel Goth | Alternative beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog
I tend to find that, because of extra sweating caused by my PoTS, I really struggle with makeup in the summer. I love the Urban Decay setting sprays for keeping me cool, refreshed & my makeup set in place longer. I'll definitely be trying the Soap & Glory Primer One Heck Of A Blot primer this year to see if that helps any. Xx
ReplyDeleteTania | When Tania Talks
I would definitely recommend giving it a go! xx
DeleteGreat list of items, I've not used Urban Decay's concealer. But, I do love Clarins products too. Thanks for sharing, that Soap & Glory primer sounds interesting. :)/Madison
