The Haircare Edit #2

I’ve mentioned before that I’m definitely a creature of habit when it comes to haircare, but 2016 has seen enough new additions for me to do an updated post! In particular I hadn't explored ‘pre-shampoo’ treatments much before but I’ve got really into them recently.

If my hair is looking a bit in need of some TLC and I’m not in a huge rush (usually about once a week!) then I reach for the legendary Elasticiser. You use this on dry hair, applying it in sections to the lengths and ends. You then leave it for around 15 minutes in a shower cap before rinsing and washing your hair as normal. I find this makes my hair look and feel healthier as well as reducing breakage when I’m using heat styling.

Most of the time I tend to suffer from the ‘dry ends, greasy roots’ issue so the Extraordinary Clay line feels like it was made for me! I tried out a few bits from the range but the one thing that really impressed me and that I’d recommend to anyone suffering from this problem is the pre-shampoo treatment. You simply massage some of this into your roots whilst your hair is dry (prior to washing) and leave it for five minutes before rinsing it out and washing your hair as normal.  I’ve noticed this makes such a huge difference to the build-up of oils and product I often get at my roots. It isn’t stripping at all because the clay simply absorbs the excess greasiness, so it’s a much gentler option than something like a clarifying shampoo. Getting that extra day out of my hair before it needs washing is really handy!

A bit TMI but whatever, a good chunk of people suffer from dandruff to varying degrees. I’ve used Head and Shoulders for years because I knew it eliminated the issue for me and I didn’t want to risk trying something else. However a couple of months back I realised I’d forgotten to buy a new bottle and had none left so I saw my mum had this one from Jason. I sneakily stole a bit and I’ve ended up loving it ever since. Obviously I have now purchased my own bottle! It doesn’t foam up so you probably do end up using a bit more in order to completely cover your scalp but that doesn’t bother me particularly. It also smells quite strongly of essential oils, which I quite like but some may not! However I find it much nicer to use and just as effective as Head and Shoulders whilst being a little more gentle on my sensitive scalp.

GHD Air Arctic Gold Hairdryer Set* | £99 (currently reduced to £79)

I’ve actually mentioned before that whilst I often spend on heat stylers (usually opting for GHD), I haven’t ever tried a professional hairdryer before. Well, this has certainly been a case of not realising what I’d been missing out on all these years! I’ve never used a hairdryer that leaves my hair looking and feeling so sleek and silky! (GHD uses ionic technology to achieve this effect) It practically removes the need to also straighten your hair after blowdrying. And bearing in mind I also have curly afro hair that’s pretty impressive! Plus I love the sleek-stylish design and the fact the air filter is removable, as I’ve had to bin so many hairdryers in the past due to this becoming clogged and not being able to effectively clear it out. For reference, I pretty much always use it with the diffuser attachment for that really smooth finish.

The set also comes with two good-quality sectioners I use every day to blow dry or straighten my hair and a heat protection spray. Whilst I still really like using a dry spray if my hair isn’t wet, I’ve been using this when blowdrying my hair after washing. It really does help me get that sleek, frizz-free look when used with the hairdryer.

I recently picked this up on offer for abut £6 and I honestly think it’s identical to the Kerastase one I had been using which is nearly £20! I did a bit of digging and found out that Kerastase is owned by L’Oreal, which explains it. Anyway, this is a lovely light serum for dry and damaged hair. I use a pump or two on the lengths and ends when I’m blowdrying my hair but as it’s not sticky or gloopy at all, I also use it on my dry hair if it’s looking like it needs some moisture. It really does help to smooth and hydrate my hair.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your current haircare favourites?

  3. That clay masque sounds amazing. Really need to try this as I have the same problem with my hair! I would love a GHD hairdryer! My straighteners are GHDs and they are still going strong 10 years later - so worth the money, so may be worth spending more on a dryer too :) and I love the Loreal hair oil too, so good!

  4. I will definitely try the L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Serum, I have to say that I usually don't see a huge difference when I decide to splurge on an expensive hair oil!

  5. I definitely am not giving my hair as much attention as I should though I have been doing a lot of natural oil hair masks recently in the hopes of increasing the growth and strength. I will deffo have a look into that hair oil as I really liked the Shampoo and Conditioner from that range.

  7. I've been loving the Loreal Extraordinary Clay range too, not quite getting an extra day as my hair gets so greasy so quickly but it feels so clean and soft when I use it! The GHD hair dryer sounds great too, I always end up buying travel sized ones as the big ones are so heavy and my hair is long but this looks a great size too!

  8. I used Head & Shoulders for years before realising that it probably did more damage than good! I've been reaching for more natural shampoos like LUSH ones at the moment, but the Avalon Organics Lavender one is my favourite. That L'Oreal clay sounds perfect for me as well! It's such an easy thing to add to your routine!

  12. Honestly I'm pretty lazy when it comes to hair care. Not that my hair is in bad condition or anything but I probably should use a few more products on it to make it that little bit healthier. I'm even quite lazy when it comes to styling it haha. I'll keep these products in mind though as I feel like I need to try and explore using different ones for my hair :) http://coffeeatmidnight13.blogspot.co.uk/

  21. The bf just discovered he has dandruff (I think it's from over washing as he washes his hair twice a day because of gym). Might look in to that Jason shampoo! Sounds nice and looks like a manly kind of bottle which I know he likes in his products haha. I am definitely in the market for a new hair dryer so will add this one to the list of maybes!
