Monthly Makeup Menu #7

It's time again for me to share the makeup products I've been reaching for these past few weeks. Although I've had a few options I've been flitting between, it was actually pretty easy to narrow things down for this post.

Base

This new release from Nars just had my name written all over it! I actually really like a lighter base these days, however my skin can be a little shine-prone. Whilst I've been experiencing some dryness during the colder months, this has been the perfect middle ground for me. It is a matte finish however it isn't overly so and doesn't feel drying on my skin. It's somewhere between a more full-coverage bb cream and a lighter coverage foundation. Essentially it offers enough coverage to even out and perfect the skin tone whilst still looking and feeling lightweight. I have this in St. Moritz, the same shade I wear in the Tinted Moisturiser and I'd say the two are more or less the same in colour (though this may be a tiny tad more neutral in tone). It's really long-wearing too so I can see this being a favourite when summer comes around.

This has almost reached the point where I should stop mentioning it because it's something I use every single month without fail! I've become a light-medium base-lover in the past few months and this is just the best brush for applying those kinds of formulas. In just a couple of swipes you can get that perfect, brush-stroke-free, flawless, natural look.

I'm sure you're bored to death of my raving about this concealer! It's replaced the traditional thick, creamy potted corrector in my routine completely. It has a nice peachy tone to it and the formula is just so lightweight that it blends effortlessly. It gives fair coverage but I mainly use this to cancel out the darkness under my eyes before adding a more skin-toned concealer on top. Unfortunately though this comes in very few shades.

This has been my go-to concealer both for under the eyes and on blemishes and redness. I've never come across such a hydrating light-feeling concealer that offers incredibly full coverage! You only need the tiniest little bit of this for your entire face too.

I've not really had a loose translucent setting powder in years and wasn't sure if I'd take to this, however it's so fine and traceless on the skin. It doesn't give my skin a white cast, even under flash photography. It isn't caky at all but keeps my makeup in place and my t-zone matte.

Cheeks

I honestly think I've had my eye on this highlighter for about three years! I finally picked it up with my Boots Advantage Card points over Christmas and got round to playing around with it this month. It's a gorgeous pearly-gold liquid highlight. I love that it isn't too glittery and just looks natural and subtle on the skin.

I've never been much of a contour-er but these powders just make it so flipping effortless! I'm surprised that I prefer Complicated as it's described as Medium Cool whereas Half-Hearted is described as Medium Warm. Half-Hearted is a little darker and it's more of an evening look for me. Complicated, on the other hand, looks more natural on my skin. Be careful of the fallout with these but overall I love them and how effortlessly they blend on the skin.

Morphe E34 Angled Contour Brush | £11.25 | post

My favourite brush to apply the Makeup Geek powders with is this bargain from Morphe. It picks up the right amount of product and blends it out perfectly. I love the angled shape of the brush as you can use it in two different ways depending on how precise you want  to be. It's a fairly natural look you get with this too, making it a perfect everyday contour brush.

I won't lie; the packaging was a big part of me picking up a few bits from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's makeup collection, however I've been beyond impressed with the quality of the products I've tried so far. This month I've been loving this natural rose-toned cream blusher. It has a lovely, almost mousse-like texture that means it's pigmented and doesn't look greasy on the skin. It also lasts really nicely on me, unlike a lot of cream formulas.

My still-dry winter skin has meant I've favoured cream formulas  on my cheeks recently and my other option is this shade from ColourPop (you can find the details on how I shipped it to the UK in the post linked above). It's a gorgeous slightly plummy pink-mauve nude. I love the ColourPop cream blusher formula as it applies evenly and wears well on my skin. This adds a beautiful flush of colour to the cheeks.

Eyes

Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil & Brush | £8 | post

I won't bore you too much as this is a product I talk about a lot. Basically it's my perfect quick, easy and natural eyebrow product. It's not too warm or too greyish, the tip is very precise and you don't have to keep sharpening it because it's a twist-up product. It's the perfect balance between soft and waxy too.

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara | £5.50 | post

I like to finish off the look by making sure any gaps in my brows are filled in. If my brows don't need re-shaping then I can use this on its own but at the moment I'm loving the combination. This isn't crispy at all - it just adds a nice bit of colour (without being clumpy) and keeps my brows in place.

Stila Eyes Are the Window Palette in Soul | £30 | post

When I first got this palette I really liked it, however I dug this back out a couple of weeks back and I am obsessed! My love for this has reached a whole new level and I can't stop wearing a bronzed smoky eye. This is such an unusual palette with a blend of mattes, shimmers, cool shades and warm shades. The quality and pigmentation are excellent too, plus the packaging is gorgeous.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black | £14.50 | post

I know this makes it into my makeup menu every month but whatever! I love how it doesn't transfer, I love how pigmented it is, I love how it doesn't try out quickly, I love the thin and precise nip: this has just become my absolute favourite for winged liner.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Underground | £15.50

I always go for something softer on the lower lash line and I find this taupe-bronze shade from Urban Decay compliments the shades in the Soul palette perfectly. The formula of these is so creamy and pigmented but still long-lasting.

L'Oreal False Lash Sculpt Mascara | £9.99 | post

I'm a huge fan of L'Oreal's False Lash Flutter so wanted to see how this new offering measured up! Personally I do prefer the Flutter formula but this is still very good. It gives me length and definition but still some clump-free volume.

Lips

ColourPop Lippie Stix in Brink | $5 | post

If you're a fan of MAC's matte warm brown nudes like Velvet Teddy, Taupe and Spice then you need this in your life! It's just the perfect blend of all of those shades in a creamy, comfortable formula. Find out how I shipped this to the UK in the post linked above.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare | $20 | post

My other favourite lip product this month has of course been Double Dare. It's a very fluid formula but doesn't feel too drying on my lips. It's so long-lasting and I just love the colour. It's a sort of pinky-nude with hints of brown and mauve.

What do you think of this month's makeup picks? What have been some of your most-reached-for products?

  18. I kept telling myself I need to narrow down and force myself to use certain products for at least a couple of weeks. I'm way too fickle and so many products are wasted, just sitting there collecting dust. Vichy setting powder seems to be a favourite for many, I'll need to check it out.
