Current Obsession | Zoeva Eyeshadow Palettes

I feel like I naturally gravitate towards mid-priced brands these days; you get a lovely product in a pretty package without feeling like you’re spending a bomb and Zoeva fits perfectly into that category. I’ve been a huge fan of their brushes for a good while but their makeup is a more recent discovery. The standout makeup product from their range for me are the eyeshadow palettes, so today I’m giving you a breakdown of my collection with swatches and mini-reviews.

All the 10-shade palettes cost £15.50 and the 15-shade palettes cost £28.50 when bought through UK stockist BeautyBay or marginally less when bought directly from Zoeva, who ship easily and cheaply to the UK. The formula seems to vary slightly between the palettes, which I’ll outline later. Overall they are very pigmented and wear well throughout the day. They blend so nicely and the mattes in particular are some of my absolute favourites. Overall the formula is very creamy though slightly more powdery than something like Urban Decay or Makeup Geek.

Overall they are probably the best quality and most original eyeshadow palettes I’ve come across at this price-point. I love that they name the shades and give each palette a theme. There are some lovely, unique shades and original ideas in their line, which I love. I also do like the packaging; although it’s cardboard it isn’t flimsy and they’re very slim, making them perfect for travel.

The first Zoeva eyeshadow palette I ever picked up was the Cocoa Blend. Just look at it! It was also the product that opened the door to me experimenting slightly more with colour. It’s got a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades with some gorgeous neutrals but also these little pops of colour, which are what makes it really special.

My favourite shades to wear together are probably Pure Ganache (a bright gold shimmer that’s perfect as an inner-corner highlight), Substitute for Love (a warm caramel brown crease colour), Subtle Blend (a brown-bronze shimmer that can be worn as a lid colour) and Warm Notes (a deep pink shimmer I like to use to add a bit of colour in the crease).

This was my second Zoeva palette purchase – I know it’s kind of ‘safe’ but I work in an office so neutrals are always going to be the shades I have the most use for. I’d describe the colours in this as a sort of warm rosy browns. I find the texture of the eyeshadows in this palette to be slightly more powdery than the others; it’s nothing major though. It also has a couple of nice duochrome colours in there to mix it up a little. There’s a good combination of light and dark shades as well as of mattes and shimmers. All in all it’s a really well balanced palette and a great everyday staple.

My go-tos in this palette are Casual Elegance (a yellow-gold duochrome shimmery highlight) Smooth Harmony (a rosy lid colour with a slightly golden sheen), Soft and Sexy (a mid-brown crease colour) and Sweet Sound (a deeper caramel brown shimmer for the outer v).

I’ve felt for a while that my eyeshadow stash has been lacking in slightly cooler tones, and this fills that gap for me. I do tend to gravitate towards warmer tones as they naturally suit me better – a silver eye can sometimes look a little bit off on my colouring. However there’s just something about the balance of colours in this palette that seems to really work for me.

My most-used shades are Handmade (a light peach shimmer I use as a highlight), Gallery (a mid-taupe matte crease colour), Outline (a cool deep taupe-bronze shimmer) and Exquisite (a slightly cool-toned plum matte).

This was a great palette to inject a bit of colour into my stash without it being anything too scary or intense. You still have a few neutrals in there but I do really like that there are some pretty unique colours too. In the main I use this palette to create either a more plum-purple look or a more brown and orange-toned eye. The only think I don’t like so much about this palette is all the unnecessary variants of the off-white matte lid shade. I have to say I think Zoeva have improved their eyeshadow formula even more with these new 2016 releases; besides the white shades the mattes are even better than usual! Just look at the pigmentation of the dark shades especially.

My most-used shades are WR150 (a champagne shimmer to highlight the inner corner with), WR120 (a mid matte brown I like for the lid or crease), WR040 (a bright orange matte I use in the crease) and WR010 (a duochrome plummy brown shimmer I like on the outer v).

This is my most recent addition and I definitely didn’t need it but when has that ever stopped me? It’s just the perfect warm neutral palette that gives you everything you need in one place. I also love having a palette where I genuinely use every single shade! It’s a mix of brown, taupe and gold shades, which is exactly what I like to go for.

Although, as I said, I regularly use all the colours in this palette I do still have a particular look I tend to go for with this palette. My most-worn shades are ND140 (a champagne shimmer for the inner corner), ND100 (a mid-taupe matte), ND110 (a light nude shimmer with a hint of peach that I like to use as a lid colour – think MAC All That Glitters) and ND020 (a cool bronzy brown shimmer I use for the outer corner).

Update: Apologies, it seems the smaller palettes have increased in price to £18 between the time I scheduled this and the time it went up. Sorry for any confusion!

Have you tried any Zoeva eyeshadow palettes? Which is your favourite or the one that’s on your wish list?

  5. I love Zoeva eyeshadows, I think they are fantastic quality, especially the mattes as they're harder to get them right. I'm slightly disappointed that now Zoeva has became more popular they upped their prices and the small palettes are £18 and even the brushes start from £8 not £6 like before. x

The 15 pan ones seems like a great alternative to the big MAC ones if you can't be bothered building your own.

I only own the Cocoa Blend and the Rose Golden however I seriously want to pick up the warm spectrum palette, it looks right up my street and the pigmentation as always is great:) I was really wanting to pick up the En Taupe palette but I think it may be slightly too cool toned for my complexion:( Thanks so much for sharing. xx
