Skincare on Trial #3

It's been a while since my last Skincare on Trial post but I've had a chance to give my latest batch of products a really good go!

You may have seen this in my Best in Beauty 2015, which is a bit of a giveaway that I really like this stuff. I'd heard great things about the skincare properties of rosehip and this was an affordable, well-reviewed option so I decided to pick it up in the Black Friday sales.

It's an oil (obviously!) which comes in a glass bottle that comes with a dropper to dispense the product. I usually use two or three drops after cleansing and toning. I skip applying any cream products when I'm using this as oils tend to separate out from them. I take some time to massage this into my skin and it isn't too heavy or greasy on the skin at all. I like to do this a good half an hour before bed so it can absorb before my face is in the sheets.

It leaves my skin looking plumped and hydrated by morning but doesn't break me out. It really helps reduce the appearance of marks, scars and hyper pigmentation too. My skin seems to look healthier and better in just about every way and this has been a real winter rescue product for me.

Ingredient: Rosa Canina (rosehip) Seed Oil

The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Face Oil | £28

I had a Love Your Body £5 credit so decided to give this face oil a go as I've been loving them on my slightly drier winter skin. I really love the style of the packaging, which makes me a little more comfortable with the price. Again it's a glass bottle with a dropper and I usually go for two or three drops before bed. It smells absolutely gorgeous when you apply it and sinks into the skin nicely.

This is really nourishing and my skin always looks healthier and more hydrated when I use it. However after a month of use I'm not sure I could justify buying this again considering there are oils (like the Trilogy one) that do the same or more for my skin but cost less.

Ingredients include: Olive Oil and Jojoba Oil

Bean Burst Coffee Scrubs* | £28 for 3 or £15 each

I mentioned these in my Hangover Recovery Routine but now I've had a chance to try out all three flavours. They're all supposed to do different things: the Sweet Orange Blend is supposed to be calming and brightening, Peppermint Blend is billed as invigorating, brightening and energising and Grapefruit Blend is said to relieve stress, clear skin and uplift your senses. Despite the fragrance, I'm not convinced they do dramatically different things to my skin but I do really like all of them.

This can be used on either face or body. Personally, I feel these work best as a scrub on the body and as a mask on the face. They're amazing for removing dead skin cells from my legs especially. It's a little messy so it's not always the one I reach for (though the resealable pouch is handy) but it's probably the most effective. On my face I apply some of the scrub to my face, massage slightly and gently then leave it for 5-10 minutes. It's feels invigorating on my skin and after rinsing this off my skin looks fresher and much more glowing.

Ingredients include: Caffeine, Himalayan Pink Salt, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil (plus Sweet Orange Oil, Peppermint Oil or Grapefruit Oil, depending on which you choose)

Pixi Beauty Sleep Cream | £24

I've never been hugely impressed with a night cream but this one's actually pretty good. I'm a big fan of Pixi skincare and this is really nice. I apply two pumps of this as the last step in my evening skincare routine and the packaging is really handy, stopping you dispensing too much and ensuring the product stays hygienic  There's not a huge amount to say but it absorbs nicely and feels nourishing but not greasy on my skin. It's nice and hydrating without leaving any excess and that's all I really want!

Ingredients include: Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Lavender Oil and Lemon Oil

Salcura Antiac Activ Gel Serum* | £9.99

Although I like something like Tea Tree Oil as an intensive overnight treatment for my spots, I was lacking something suitable to wear under makeup (without making it apply oddly) that reduces my spots fast as opposed to being a bit of a top-up. And this is seriously amazing stuff! The gel formula means it's fast-aborbing, so I just apply a little of this before my moisturiser to areas that are breaking out (or where I can feel something brewing under the surface...) By the next day I find any soreness and redness has gone down considerably and my breakouts have cleared up. When I looked at the ingredients list, I wasn't surprised at all as it contains many of the staples from my favourite products. I tend to just use this on an 'as and when' basis but it's really helped me this month when my skin situation has been far from ideal.

Ingredients include: Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange, Manuka and Aloe Vera

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm | £38 (for full sized 100ml)

Paradoxically I really didn't want to like the little mini I finally got my hands on for Christmas because it's so expensive. But I do! It comes in a little pot and has a lovely light, fruity scent. You only need the tiniest amount. I've had at least 10-20 applications out of this and as you can see I've still hardly made a dent in it. I warm it between my fingers before massaging it over my skin and eyes to remove makeup. It feels so nice and luxurious on the skin and it's so effective! It's the most gentle oil-based cleanser that I've ever used on my eyes that still gets the job done, even with waterproof mascara. I remove it with a warm, damp flannel or muslin cloth and it barely leaves a scrap of makeup behind!

Ingredients include: Grape Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Bitter Orange Flower Oil

Have you tried any of these products? Which skincare bits have you been trying out since the New Year?

  12. I haven't tried these exact products but very similar in genre. I am a recent convert to using oils and oil cleansers in my routine and for my combination oily t.zone skin, they really help in balancing the production of oil which helps massively with blemishes and contributes to smoother plumper skin, so I'm happy with them. I have not tried emma hardie but am a huge huge fan of eve lom cleansing balm, it's pricey but that combined with panoxyl transformed my skin.

  22. I used to use the Trilogy Rosehip oil and liked it but it wasn't really doing much for me. I decided to try using pure argan oil instead from Billy in the Tree through their store on Amazon and it's amazing! It gets great reviews but I still wasn't expecting much for the price (£9.95), but it immediately made a big difference. I was alternating it still with the rosehip oil and could always see a difference between the 2 the next day. I started just using the argan oil and can't go without it now. I have very dry skin so it really helps with that as well as anti ageing. I also have really been wanting to try the Emma Hardie balm but the price really puts me off. I have the Clinique take the day off cleansing balm instead and it's incredible! Especially for my sensitive skin, plus it's cheaper. Great post and review! Katie xx

  23. I felt like that with Emma Hardie...I didn't want to believe it was as lush as everyone makes it out to be but it really is amazing. And seriously, why is that Body Shop Oil so expensive?

  24. Hahah I know what you mean about not wanting to like something cos its pricey, I'm currently going through that with the laura mercier hydrating primer, it has been working sooo well for me lately! But I am using it sparingly because I don't want to be purchasing the full size in May D:
