January Makeup Menu

January was very much a month of trying new things, but there were a few staples that crept in that I've reached for over and over!

On New Year's Even I managed to drop Sheer Glow on a marble floor and it smashed everywhere. It was a sad day (I genuinely had to scrape a bit off the floor without glass fragments in it to wear!) So I had to repurchase it at the start of the month and haven't stopped using it since. It will always be my favourite foundation as it gives me that medium coverage, flawless satin finish.

Another old favourite I returned to this month. After Christmas and New Year, my skin was pretty terrible and nothing else was quite cutting it. This concealed even my hugest spots, for which I'm very grateful! It's also great on dark circles if used sparingly with a corrector.

YSL Touche Eclat | £25

I finally bit the bullet and picked up Touche Eclat when my Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle ran out. I was gutted the Charlotte Tilbury ran out so quickly, I wasn't too fussed about the eye cream so would've preferred to have had to concealer-highlighter end on its own, which is why I chose to buy this instead. I have the shade 4.5 Luminous Sand, which I use as a final touch after applying my concealer to brighten up my under eye area. It works a treat but it's really quite pricey!

Crownbrush SS01 Deluxe Large Oval Foundation* | £9.39

I know this is called a foundation brush but I actually love it for blending in my under-eye concealer; it's the perfect shape and size to get it looking flawless. I was lucky enough to be sent a few Christmas surprises from Crownbrush and I'm absolutely loving the brushes that were in the package.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in 01 Highlight | £25 (for full size)

I got a mini of this product in a Laura Mercier gift set for Christmas and it gives the most natural glow to the skin. The pearly shade is perfect for everyday use and the small size makes it perfect for travel. The texture is so soft and doesn't have chunks of glitter in it so blends really nicely.

Ciate x Olivia Palermo Cheekbone Cheat in Seaside Park | £25 | post

If you saw the post, you'll have seen I've picked up a fair few bits from Ciate's collection with Olivia Palermo. The formulation of these powders is just so creamy and light on the skin. The matte coral blush shade is gorgeous but I've pretty much exclusively been using the deeper shade as a bronzer since the new year. It's really nice and warm but still adds some subtle definition. It's perfect for everyday wear.

Zoeva Coral Spectrum Blush Palette* | £14.80 | post

I've reached for little else in the cheek department because this palette is so stunning, so pigmented and has just about everything I need! My favourite shades are the coral shimmer and the vivid pink and the formulation is just so creamy, east to apply and long-lasting.

I finally did a Colourpop haul! I've written up the full details of how I shipped to the UK and how much it cost in the post, which is coming up later this week. However essentially these are spongey cream eyeshadows that are gorgeously pigmented. Desert is a warm beige-brown tone and the Satin finish has a very subtle sheen to it. For me, it's a pretty perfect everyday base colour.

Despite upgrading to a large Z Palette, I kept hold of my Small for travelling and at the moment it houses my everyday neutral shades. These are mainly the standard ones but I also have a couple of the super-metallic foiled shadows. In my palette there's: Shimma Shimma, Starry Eyed, Homecoming, Grandstand, Frappe, Cocoa Bear, Brown Sugar, Taupe Notch and Bada Bing (all of which are reviewed and swatched in the post). The quality, texture, pigmentation and longevity of these is just incredible and I'm obsessed with Makeup Geek!

For applying the eyeshadows, I'm loving this fab little 217 dupe that costs just £6! The fluffy bristles make it perfect for applying the lid shade or blending everything in. The domed shape also make it great for applying a soft crease colour.

This is the eyeliner that just keeps on giving! I can't believe it's still going strong after months of use. It's a thin, inky, pigmented black eyeliner pen that's great for getting a precise winged liner look.

So many people have raved about the Max Factor False Lash Effect mascaras, so I decided to get my hands on the latest addition to the range: Velvet Volume. It seems a bit gimmicky but it's supposed to leave your eyelashes feeling soft. I can't say it's ever been a particular concern for me but it's nice not to have my lashes left stiff or stuck together by my mascara. Anyway, I do really like this as it gives me that long, defined false lash look I absolutely love.

I have to admit that when I first received this palette, I did think it was kind of a makeup artist product and there was no way I'd use all of the shades, however when I swatched these, the formula was so smooth, creamy and pigmented I realised they would also be perfect as eyeshadows! So I use a mix of the Brown and Black shade to get my perfect brow colour, with the Blonde colour working as an eyeshadow base and the Red as a nice warm crease colour. It's great to have the different shades so you don't have to compromise and use a product that's not quite the right colour. I've always found powders in the brows great for a really subtle look just after I've had them shaped and tinted but not so great for the times when they need serious re-shaping. These powders are different, however, and are so pigmented you can definitely use them in place of a pomade or wax. This is all I've been using on my brows this year so far!

Zoeva Brow Line & Wing Liner Brushes | £7.50 & £6.95 | post

To apply the Hi Impact Brow powders I've been using a combination of these two brushes from my Zoeva Rose Gold Volume 2 Set. The Brow Line is a little softer and nice for brushing through the product to get that extra bit of fullness. The Wing Liner is perfect for precise application when you're re-shaping your brows.

This is one of my absolute favourite lip colours in one of my absolute favourite lip formulas! It's a gorgeous, creamy matte that doesn't cling to any winter dryness but is so long-lasting. The shade is a beautiful rose that's a little brighter than a nude but still perfect for everyday wear.

What have been your everyday products for 2016 so far?

  2. The Laura Mercier Highlight is beautiful! I really need to look into it, I've been looking for a pinky bright highlight, since some of the ones I currently own are more gold tone, and look strange on my skin! xo

  3. So many amazing products - I don't even know where to begin! I absolutely love the look of that Zoeva Blush palette. It's still a brand that I haven't tried but this product looks right up my street. I have the YSL Touche Eclat but I haven't used it in quite a while. You've inspired me to dig it out of my drawers and start using it again - I really should, it's a great product! I just recently placed another Makeup Geek order as I'm also obsessed with their stuff. I'm becoming more and more convinced that I need to get me some Colourpop in my life though. Great post lovely!

  9. I have been wanting to try the creamy concealer by Nars for a while now but I have been a bit confused between that and the Mac studio fix concealer.. But after reading your review I am a bit inclined towards Nars. What would you recommend?

  15. Oh NO! I'm so sorry about your Nars foundation :( that's the most frustrating thing about glass packaging - why do companies do it to us?! On a brighter note, I love the sound of that Crown brush. I've been needing a few new brushes and I think I'm gonna have to order a few from there.
