The Best Drugstore Lip Liners? | Blushing Giraffe Guest Post

Today's Guest Post comes from one of my favourite bloggers, Iqra from The Blushing Giraffe. She's going to share with you her Rimmel lip liner stash. I hope you enjoy it and follow her using the links at the bottom of the post. Thank you so much Iqra for writing the post and sharing these absolute steals with us!

Hi Jasmine Talks Beauty readers, I hope you’re all doing well! Today I am going to be sharing my Rimmel Lip Liner collection with you all, because I am well and truly obsessed with them. In the last year or so lipliners have become a must have for every makeup wearer and for a good couple of reasons. They prolong lipstick, the can give the illusion of fuller lips, they last a lot longer on the lips alone than a lipstick would and they can make a great matte lip. Of course if you are planning to wear a lipliner all over the lips, exfoliating and balming them is a must beforehand! I own a lot of lipliners from various brands, but the ones I have the most of and actually reach for the most are the brilliant Rimmel London ones. I am always recommending these to friends, aunties and of course my blog readers too, which is why I thought it was about time to put together a collection post.

I own three of the Rimmel London 1000 Kisses lipliners which cost £2.99 each...do I hear the words bargain?!? These are your traditional type of lip liner, in a wooden pencil form and they do require sharpening. I don’t feel like this line gets enough love considering the quality and shades are wonderful, so do have a swatch next time you go past a Rimmel booth! Wooden lipliners are also generally a little less creamy than retractable ones, however in comparison to my Kiko lipliners I find the 1000 kisses line to be creamy enough where they don’t pull on the lips, but firm enough that they actually line the lips and stay put y’know? Also despite having to sharpen them, I still find that they last a long time. I’ve had these three for 1.5/2 years and there’s still a tonne of pencil left so I think they’re fantastic value for money.

L-R: Tiramisu, Spice, Indian Pink

I own the shades Tiramisu, Spice and Indian Pink. As you can see the writing has totally rubbed off because I always chuck them in my handbag. Tiramisu is a very natural light brown type of shade which has a pink of orange in it. Its probably about a shade and a half deeper than natural lip colour so I reach for it a lot! I love wearing this under all nude lipsticks and also its one of the most believable shades for me to overline my lips with. I LOVE how it adds instant omph and it stays put unlike a tingly gloss.

Spice was the original shade that made me fall in love with these liners, I’ve actually reviewed it separately on my blog but in short if you’re looking for similar lip liner to MAC’s Soar, give this a go! Its a little more warm in tone, as far as I can tell from online swatches and its such a versatile shade. When applied heavily it translates as a little brown on my lips and I love the sophisticated vibe - all I need to do it line and fill in my lips with Spice and I immediately feel pulled together!

Indian Pink is definitely the shade that gets the least love from me because I am just not one for a bright/deep pink lip. I remember picking it up because Sammi from thebeautycrush included it in her favourites and although its a stunning shade I just don’t reach for it! I do think owning one of these shades is important though, because you can layer it under a brighter colour for a special occasion and the chances of your lipstick bleeding will be slim to none.

Moving onto the more popular lip liners from Rimmel, I own three from the Exaggerate line in the shades EastEnd Snob, Addiction and Epic and they cost £3.99. The best part about these liners are the fact that they’re in a travel friendly retractable form. The formula of the exaggerate line is also slightly creamier and the shape of the pencil is in a slant, to make it easier to achieve a crisp line. I do find that because these liners are creamier than the 1000 kisses line, I have to slow down a little when outlining the lips - not a biggie but still!

As they are a little more creamy, they’re a little more forgiving on dry lips but once again do make sure to scrub and balm the lips before putting any liner all over the lips.

L-R: Tiramisu, Spice, Indian Pink, East End Snob, Addiction, Epic

East End Snob is a light, somewhat muted pink shade which has been compared to Charlotte Tilbury’s lipliner in Pillow talk. I have to say I was pretty disappointed with this shade because its a good deal brighter that Pillow Talk and there’s something about the shade that doesn’t sit well with my warm medium skintone. Sure it looks fine layer under a lipstick or two, but it doesn’t do much for me! However if you’re of a lighter skintone I think it’d be a beautiful pink shade.

Addiction is my favourite from the three and the kind of shade I love to wear all over my lips. It is a brown with a definite mauve undertone, and its another shade which really gives the illusion of fuller lips on me anyway! Actually I would say that addiction is closer to C.T pillow talk

Epic is the lip liner I never really reached for because I thought it was a little too dark. However since starting my ‘lipstick of the week’ series in which I use one lipstick alone for a week and really get a feel for it - I have realised how wonderful this shade is for any deeper lipstick! Deeper lipsticks generally need more upkeep because you don’t want that kind of shade bleeding and smudging around your mouth. Epic is a beautiful brown shade which looks lovely all over the lips and as a regular liner to prolong and keep deeper lipsticks in place.

I have heard that Rimmel have come out with new lip liner shades which is so exciting because these liners really fall into the category ‘bang for your buck’. They’re especially a bargain when you snap them up in a 3 for 2!

  1. I want them all! But sadly the price of Rimmel's lip liners are little bit higher compared to other lip liners in Indonesia. I wish Rimmel is going to be here officially :)

  12. I've never tried any of rimmel's lip pencils but I want to! The ones with the retractable end sound perfect for me! I also love that they have a variety of nude-ish colors. Some companies only have light browns that don't work for me at all, but I'm really digging the pinky nudes like spice and addiction!

  14. I love these lipliners. I was so late the to Rimmel lip liner craze, because I was so obsessed with my Makeup Forever lip liners and my Jordana drugstore lipliners. Eventually I ended up borrowing a Rimmel liner from my mom and fell in love. The retractable ones are my favorite, the color pay off is far better than Jordana or NYX and they're really moisturizing for a lip liner.
