Well, new-ish... I've been picking up polishes from Barry M's Spring and Summer collections since about February but never got round to blogging about them. With the stash I've amassed now I've decided it's finally time to do a round-up post of the polishes I've been testing.
Speedy Quick Dry, £3.99 each
When this range came out it had my name written all over it! I love pastel shades and I'm ridiculously impatient when it comes to nails so I picked up 4 shades from the original Spring line and 1 from the more recent Summer collection.
Lap of Honour see it on my nails here
This is a pastel purple shade that's really nicely opaque. You could probably even get away with one coat, however I tend to go for two to be on the safe side. This is definitely one of my favourites.
Eat my Dust see it on my nails here
I was a tad disappointed in this shade, which seems to be a lot of people's favourite. The light blue doesn't look quite right on my colouring and unfortunately I did find it a bit sheer even after two coats. It's such a lovely colour in the bottle but I'm not sure it's for me.
Pit Stop see it on my nails here
Another favourite was this gorgeous grey-lilac shade. This is good after two coats and it's just one of those colours that's never not appropriate. When I don't know what to go for with my nails, I reach for this.
In a Heartbeat see it on my nails here
This is such a gorgeous vibrant neon pink shade however I did find the formula a bit gloopy and it needed 3 coats. I do wonder if I got a faulty one as the black ink from the pattern on the top transfers off all over my fingers, which doesn't happen with any of the others.
Get Set Go see it on my nails here
This is the one shade I picked up from the Summer range as I generally favour pastels over brights and a few of them had shimmer in (not this one), which I'm not into. Get Set Go is a really bright (slightly hot?) pink and is opaque enough for one coat to look fine. It's not something I'd usually go for but I actually think it suits me so this is a surprise love!
I find that the 'speedy drying' aspect of the formula is consistent in all these shades and they all seem to chip quite quickly (after 2-4 days). I don't mind however as the fast-drying formula makes touch-ups pretty fuss-free. By the time you've applied your first coat you can go back to the beginning and apply your second. I leave it a good 15 minutes after applying these before carrying on with whatever I'm doing and they stay splodge-free! I really like the slightly curved brush these have too as it makes it really easy and even quicker to apply the polishes.
Sunset Daylight Curing, £4.99 each
This is Barry M's most recent new formulation for Summer 2015 and is full of gorgeous shades that will look amazing with a tan! These are supposed to be a bit like getting a salon gel manicure but without the fuss.
Sunset Daylight Curing Topcoat
The instructions on the individual shades say you must use this topcoat. I was a little dubious but picked it up anyway. Having used the shades with this and with the standard Barry M top and base coat as well as on their own, I can't see that this makes much of a difference in all honesty! Maybe get yourself another shade instead as I really didn't think this was necessary.
Fuschia Generation see it on my nails here
This is a stunning deep fuschia shade I'm totally in love with! It's bright enough to feel summery but subdued enough to wear during the daytime. It's also very opaque and you can easily get away with a single coat! I did two but did find it chipped within the first couple of days.
The Way you Make me Teal see it on my nails here
This is a little more eye-catching and out of my comfort zone (Fuchsia Generation is on the edge) however it's a really gorgeous teal for summer. Again it did chip very quickly. Nice name though!
Peach for the Stars see it on my nails here
This is one of my favourite shades and I also liked the formula best as I felt it actually lasted a good 4 days before it began to chip around the very edges. It's a vibrant neon peach shade and you've just got to love that name! I think this will be a holiday shade for me as it would seriously 'pop' against a tan.
I have mixed feelings on this range as it's supposed to be a super long-lasting formula and that really isn't my experience! I do have quite brittle nails but these seemed to chip faster on my than the Gelly ones. Peach for the Stars was the only one with good staying-powder. However the shades are really lovely, they dry pretty quickly and the finish is gorgeous whilst it lasts.
Gelly High-Shine, £3.99 each

Gelly High-Shine, £3.99 each
This is one of my absolute favourite nail polish formulas and I have loads of them but recently picked up one of the new shades for Summer 2015. It has a high-shine finish and they dry reasonably quickly.
Sugar Plum see it on my nails here
This is a gorgeous bright pink-purple shade that's the perfect way to introduce a little bit of colour. This can definitely be a one-coat-wonder if you need it to be! I find the Gelly formula lasts a good 4 days before chipping and this shade is no exception.

All in all there are some stunning new shades on the Barry M stand and my favourites have to be Pit Stop, Lap of Honour, Sugar Plum and Peach for the Stars.
I love the Speedy range a lot and find that it lasts on my nails for a few days, but like you I was a little disappointed with the Sunset range as I felt it chipped fast then a lot of my other polishes. Great colours though :)

I love the speedy polishes and i own peach for the stars from the daylight curing one. I have worn it on my toenails and i went honestly two and a half weeks before it started chipping. I was in shock. Its unfortunately not available in Belgium but i will pick up more colours when i go back to London.
ReplyDeleteYeah Peach for the Stars definitely seemed to last a lot longer for me xx
DeleteThe bottom ones aren't really my colours I think, but I LOVE the top ones from the speedy range! What gorgeous colours! I have never tried Barry M as I can't get them where I live, but everyone keeps talking about them so they must be as good at people say! If I ever go somewhere that sells it, I have to try one out!

They're probably my favourite nail polish brand :) xx
DeleteI have some of these nail polishes as well and while I love the shades I'm not very impressed with the staying power either. x

Barry M is one of my all time favourite brands especially with their nail varnish, they do so many pretty colours. Seeing this post has made me want to get some more, although I really don't need any more at all haha! x http://coffeeatmidnight13.blogspot.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteYou can never have too many ;) xx
DeleteBarry M do such a great range of colours and formulations, I definitely need to get my hands on some of the Quick Dry stuff, hate waiting for my nails to dry! I really like the look of Eat my Dust! Love how you've linked to all the swatches too :)

Love that speedy blue and purple shade.

I'm terrible at doing my nails, never have got that steady hand just right but I LOVE the high-shine range for when I do attempt an at home manicure.
ReplyDeleteI really should then try the speedy dry formula, that would probably solve my impatient issues :)
The fuchsia has to be my favourite of these shades, looks lovely.

Fuchsia Generation is just stunning and I think the Gelly range is one of my favourite ever nail polish formulas :) xx
DeleteThe colors are absolutely stunning (: so sad that they don't last that long

Oh my, Pit Stop is so pretty - I think it's my favourite of the ones you've featured here. I'm so bad about my nails. I used to paint them and give myself manicures all of the time but its been ages and they are in a state. :/

I used to never do my nails but now I love it :) I really enjoy the pampering element and it's a great way to look pulled together no matter what! xx
DeleteI am so glad you said about the Sunset topcoat! I bought it as it said you have to use that one only, but I think any top coat would work so I wish I'd bought another shade instead now! I love Barry M and I need some of these shades in my life, especially Sugarplum!

I love the look of Lap of Honour and Pit Stop! I'm completely set in my ways with lilac and gray nails haha!

Me too haha xx
DeleteIt's so easy to build up a huge stash of Barry M nail polishes because ether have such a huge variety. Lap Of Honour from the dry fast range is one of my favourites. Shame to hear that their sunset daylight curing range doesn't last as long as it claims but I guess you really can't expect too much from an at home mani x

Well they did bring out the Summer collection so it seems like they might! xx
DeletePit stop is gorgeous! I totally know your stuggle of finding a pretty light blue shade that sides well with a medium/olive skintone - it's such a challenge! I've tried Barry M and also Topshop...but I'm still looking ._.
ReplyDeleteIqra |The Blushing Giraffe x
Funny you should say that as the nicest one I've tried is Topshop Parma Violet, probably as it leans more towards purple! xx
Deletewish I could try it :( heard so much positive opinions :)
ReplyDeleteThe colors of the Speedy Quick Dry range are so beautiful! I wish I had all of them! Xx

ReplyDeleteI only have one Barry M nail polish and it's a matte black one and I love it, but I really want to get some more shades! The only problem is I have to order them from ASOS as we don't have Barry M here in Finland... :)x
