My Most Reached-For Lip Colours (+ Swatches)

I’m a bit of a lip product addict. Perhaps because they’re usually one of the more affordable products from any given brand and they give that instant good feeling! I thought I’d share with you my most-loved shades and I’ve tried not to think too much about this (as if I have to think about it, it probably shouldn’t be included!) If you don't like nude lips, this post may not be for you...

I picked this one up a while ago when I was in a ‘buy everything Tanya Burr recommends!!1’ phase (believe it or not some of my now-favourite products are from that period!) It’s a Lustre finish is a terracotta-brown nude and is basically my perfect subtle, fuss-free ‘my lips but better’ shade. Whilst not long-lasting, the fade is very subtle so you don’t get the dreaded lip-liner effect.

The entire Liphug sheer lip colour range blew me away (see my post on a ton of the shades here) but my favourite shade has to be the rose/red berry-toned Saviour Will Come. The formula is as good as the Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colours, in my opinion and this shade is just perfect for when you want to make a bit of an effort but not do a full-on red lip. This doesn’t see as much use now it’s Summer but as soon as Autumn comes around I know it’ll return to being a firm favourite.

For those days when I have about two seconds to grab a lip colour before I need to leave, it’s always this one! The Revlon Lip Butters (review/swatches of the rest of mine here) vary in their pigmentation however I’d say this shade in particular is more towards a sheer lipstick than a tinted lip balm. It’s a gorgeous rosy pink-brown shade and whilst it seems to have the tiniest bit of shimmer in it, it doesn’t show on the lips. It pretty much goes with everything and is my perfect natural everyday shade. This is definitely one I’ve need to re-purchase as I think this particular tube has had it’s day…

A newer addition to my stash but a shade I can’t stop reaching for. It’s part of the Chubby Stick Intense line so is more pigmented and less sheer than the standard range. It’s glossy but not sticky on the lips and is the most gorgeous pink-brown nude. The shape makes it really easy to apply and it’s one that’s often just in my handbag for on-the-go.

I’ve actually had this for months but it got neglected until the past month or so. The formula is so creamy but pigmented and it glides on, leaving a slightly sheen-y finish. The colour is again a great nude for me and the slightly easier application of a non-matte formula means that when I’m in rush this pips Taupe to the post. This is the only Urban Decay lipstick I’ve tried but it makes me want to give some other shades a go, and check out the sheer version of Liar…

MAC Twig (Satin), £15.50

This was one of my first ever MAC lipsticks and still one I re-visit regularly. It’s a Satin finish so has a slight sheen and it’s not as drying as a matte (though admittedly also not as long-lasting). It’s still a really pigmented mauve/dusky pink shade (though it leans a little more towards purple than Bond Girl). It’s great for everyday or in the evening when you want to draw the focus to your eye makeup or blusher.

This is my go-to for dinner or drinks; anything that’s not a big night out but I want to look classy and pulled-together for. The natural mauve/dusky pink shade always does the trick! It’s matte so it’s long-lasting however the formula is unlike anything else I’ve tried. It’s so creamy and comfortable and non-drying. It’s not as super-pigmented as some of the drier mattes however I love the almost stain-effect.

This is pretty much the ‘Kylie Jenner lip’ if you have a warm-medium skin tone. It’s actually really creamy to apply despite being a matte and isn’t drying in the slightest. I love the caramel tone of this, especially with a golden-bronze makeup look.

What are your most-worn lip colours?
