5 Current Style Staples from River Island

As time has gone on I've begun to appreciate simple, wearable, adaptable pieces in my wardrobe. I must admit my style is very much monochrome and basic! I especially like pieces that I  can wear both casually and in work. Usually I can never fine nice clothes but I recently picked up a few bits from River Island that fit the bill perfectly so I though I'd share them with you.

Annoying for me but good for you: this is now reduced to £25 so if you like the look of it, move fast! The lovely fur collar is probably something I'll shed once we get properly into summer as the jacket itself is a super-lightweight beige-camel-khaki jacket, perfect for throwing on in the evenings.

Firstly, I'm really sorry for the quality of this photo, I just couldn't get it to work and it doesn't do the item justice. Luckily I wore it in this Instagram OOTD post which shows how lovely this really is. This was a bit of a splurge for me but it was really love at first sight. I think the sleeveless jacket trend is here to stay and I personally love it as it's a great way to smarten up a casual outfit (I usually wear a cute cami, black skinny jeans and this) and also to add an extra layer for summer evenings. This one especially is such lovely quality it was well worth the price tag and it comes up to around the knee area on me. They have it in grey too, which is very tempting...

I'm so glad I picked up these really comfy heels! I think they can be worn casually but also are a really great day-to-evening piece. I'm pretty clumsy so chunky heels like this are ideal.

I've had a similar but shorter (this one comes to around the middle of my thighs) shirt to this. However being a couple of years old and having had a lot of wear it was starting to bobble. I sized up in this but I actually needn't have as the fit is pretty loose as it is. I think I will keep the sleeves rolled up and maybe pair it with a skinny belt.

Cream Stripe Bardot Shirt Top, £24

I actually didn't realise this was made to be worn off the shoulder! I've been wearing it pulled up like a normal top! Having said that I like the look of how I wear it as there are no bra straps on show (and I think strapless ones are generally useless). I pair this with my usual uniform of black skinny jeans and with the slingback shoes above for a nice-but-casual look (it's not a crop top, by the way, though it looks like one).

What are your style staples at the moment?

  17. Love the black sleeveless trench jacket. Really trendy. Perfect for this time of the year. The only thing is I find River Island a bit pricey for the quality and a brand that to me has a similar level to H&M. Is it just me? Nonetheless, it's a beautiful piece. x

  19. I love the Trench Jacket; I really need to invest in a sleeveless jacket this summer! At the moment I am loving loose fitting white blouses especially with floaty sleeves and obviously stripes and Bardot tops too! I might have to pop into River Island next time I'm out!

  28. I like the last shirt, but I couldn't wear off the shoulder shirts as it means strapless, and I haven't found a proper fitting one in year :/
