Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminators | Review & Swatches

I’m slightly obsessed with highlighter at the moment (check out my favourites here) and after mentioning the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminators (£11.99 each) a few times, a post on them was well overdue.

I’m not sure why I never spotted these before, as I’ve been after a drugstore liquid illuminator for ages! This one comes in 4 shades and I have 3 of them (the other in the range was just too light for me): Bare Light, Peach Light and Bronze Light. They all have a shimmer to them of course but I wouldn’t describe any of them is glittery. I would say that Bare is the lightest, a beige-champagne tone, Peach is a golden-peach colour (obviously!) somewhere in the middle and finally Bronze is a deep bronze-brown shade.

Bare is definitely my favourite and looks the most natural on me, whereas Peach adds a touch of colour and Bronze adds a more sun-kissed look. You can use them in two ways; either by mixing a little in with your foundation or dotting them across the cheek bone and brow bone then blending them in. I didn’t think I would like Bronze at all, however I found it worked nicely mixed into my foundation, though it didn’t look right just added on as I would a highlighter. Mixing the illuminator with foundation gives the most natural look; you don’t look like you have bits of glitter on your face or anything like that, it just gives you a real glow. It's hard to gauge the wear-time of this type of product but even when used on top of foundation like a standard highlighter, I don't find that these go patchy or streaky over time and also I don't find that the formula settles into pores and emphasises them (no matter how you use them).

£11.99 definitely prices these at the higher end of the drugstore, however I don’t think many of those brands do a product like this (off the top of my head I can only think of the one Seventeen do), especially not in so many shades. Whilst a highlighting product isn’t an essential, if you are a fan looking for a liquid formula but don’t want to fork out for something from Nars or Becca I would really recommend these. I also think Bronze is great for people who find most highlighters on the market too light and frosty for their skin tone, even with a high-end brand it’s hard to find highlighting products in this colour.

Overall these definitely get the thumbs up from me!

Have you tried a liquid illuminator before? Which are your favourites?

  5. I love the look of Bare shade! I have the Becca highlighter in Opal which is a bit similar and it looks gorgeous applied underneath a matte foundation but very expensive so will definitely try the Revlon one next time. x

  7. These look stunning; I have noticed them a couple of times, but I've never really heard anyone talking about them so never picked them up. Bare however looks beautiful swatched and I think that it would make a very welcome addition into my collection!

  11. I've never read any reviews on these so whenever I have spotted them in Boots I have been reluctant to pick them up. Love the shade Bare, definitely my favourite too and I'd imagine Bronze would be gorgeous on holiday with a tan x

  17. I love the 'bare' shade, looks the most natural out the bunch. Peach reminds me of the mac lustre drops! I can never get the hang of liquid highlighters though, they make my foundation patchy! Need someone to teach me haha x

  19. I've got a liquid highlighter from Look Beauty (the brand is by Look magazine) and it's my favourite highlighter. I find the littlest bit goes a long way and it leaves a really lovely peachy toned highlight. I think I got it for about £6.00 from Superdrug but it was a while back so I'm.not sure if they stock it now. I think I'll try one of these next time I'm after a new highlighter :)

  36. Oooh Bare looks like a goregous illuminator to give your foundation a touch of glow. I haven't tried these purely because I thought they might make my oily prone skin oilier and I have read that they have broken people out. Did you find you had a problem with this at all? xx

I got pink light and i'm in L-O-V-E with it, it's the perfect highlighter for fair-light skin tones and I only got it because I own like thousands of gold\champagne highlighter and I really felt that I needed a change, I truly recommend pale people like me to check it out, it's fantastic!

  40. I'm exceptionally pale (the awkward other end of the 'oh god no foundation will ever be the right colour' spectrum) - and I have the pale pink shade. I absolutely adore it - it brightens my brow area perfectly (husband even commented how good they look and he normally wouldn't notice any specific point - just if my face was particularly pretty or not!) and I love the freshness it adds to my face. Lovely product!
