Get Glowing | Spring Highlighter Picks

Highlighter is a product I've really grown to love. I like sparkly things so why not put a bit of that on my face? For this post I had a look through my stash and picked out some I think will be perfect for Spring, from setting powder to liquid, from £5 to £38.

I have two highlighters in setting powder form. One of them is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (£38, review here) which is a pressed powder you can use to set your makeup and get a natural, flattering glow. I feel like some people concluded from my post that I didn't like this and that isn't the case at all! I just feel that for me and for a lot of you guys £38 is lot to drop on one product so I gave both the pros and cons of investing in this. I like Dim Light as it's not glittery, it just has a nice beige-toned pearly shimmer to it. It's not an all-out highlighter, people probably won't know you're wearing it, they'll just think you have a nice, glow-y face! I tend to apply it with the Zoeva Luxe Face Focus Brush. I also have a loose formula, the Bourjois Java Rice Powder (£9.99). It's sort of a pinky colour and whilst it does contain glitter, it isn't huge chunks and isn't particularly noticeable on the skin. I apply this with a fan brush to set my makeup and give a bit of luminosity.

I have a few more typical pressed products I like to apply with the e.l.f. Studio Blush Brush. The Makeup Revolution Radiant Light Highlighter in Breathe (£5, review here) is my favourite of the three in this line. Like the Hourglass one it isn't too pink or too golden, it's just a lovely beige tone. This is definitely more of a highlighter than a setting powder, although it is really subtle I still tend to use it strategically. I love the natural radiance this product gives and the texture is so soft for such an affordable product. I also have the Balm's Mary Lou-Manizer (£17.50), which is off in the background as unfortunately mine has smashed! It's definitely an all-out shimmery (but glitter free) gold shade. The texture is amazingly soft (which is perhaps why it shattered so easily...) it's like applying liquid gold. I tend to use this sparingly as it can be slightly full-on for the daytime. The first highlighter I ever used is the centre shade from the Sleek Face Form Kit in Medium (£9.99, review here). I still really love this one! It's more of a dark, orange-toned gold shade which will be perfect for on holiday. What's great about these kits is that they come in four shades so the highlighter in your chosen kit will compliment your skin tone really well.

The Milani Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar (£6.74 review here) is slightly different to the others and I apply it with the Real Techniques Blush Brush. Whilst I wouldn't call it a face powder, as I wouldn't use it all over, it's a really subtle shimmer with a peach tint to it. It's really nice to pair on the cheek bones with a peach matte shade or you can even wear it as a very subtle highlighting blusher, though it definitely leans more towards a highlight than a blusher.

In my collection I have two cream formulas I'm obsessed with. The Topshop Glow Pot in Gleam (£9) is just gorgeous on the brow bone and tops of your cheek bone. The cream formula gives a golden, dewy glow and you can simply pat it on with your fingers. A more recent discovery has bee No7's Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter (£9.95). Unlike its pricier Clinique counterpart, this comes in two shades: a frostier, lighter pink colour and the one I have, which is a deeper golden-bronze. I don't normally think to check out No7 but this is such an amazing product. The shimmer is so subtle and suits my skin tone perfectly. It's lovely to apply, either by swiping it on or dotting it on with your fingertips. It works down the centre of your nose, your cupids bow, cheekbones...I would put this all over my face if I could!

Finally, there are two liquid formulas. I have a few of these (I keep saying this, but I will do a full review and swatch of them all soon!) but the one I've picked for Spring is the Revlon Skinlights Illuminator in Peach Lights (£11.99). The formula is lovely for getting a subtle glow. You can dot them on the cheekbone and brow bone or simply mix a bit in with your foundation to get a really natural glow. Finally I have a Mememe Beat the Blues Illuminator in Pearl Pink (£5.99), which is a pretty good dupe for Benefit's High Beam, I think! I really didn't think this colour would work for me however I've been pleasantly surprised that using it sparingly works really well. I dot it on with the nail polish-style applicator then blend it out with my fingers.

What's your favourite highlighter for Spring?

The Zoeva rose gold brushes are so beautiful! I have Topshop glow but in the shade polish, I use it almost every day, I love it! cottonandcandie xx

  27. Loooooooooove the Revlon and Sleek ones! I've realised that Champagne/white colours don't really suit my skintone; I tend to drift towards golden highlighters as I think it gives off a nice summery, tanned sheen. Great post and awesome photos as per usual!
