HAUL || New Drugstore Makeup

It's a new year so this month I headed out to Boots and Superdrug to see what was new with some drugstore brands. Some of the stuff I've used more than others, but I'll be posting reviews soon. This is a haul with my first impressions.

From Bourjois I picked up the 123 Perfect CC Cream (£9.99) and the Java Rice Powder (£9.99). I'll give you my full thoughts in the post but the CC Cream is a nice formula. I chose the darkest shade but despite Bourjois being notorious for yellow-toned bases I didn't find this with the darker colours at all. Having said that it isn't the sort of product you'd apply heavily anyway so it looks fine on. The Java Rice Powder isn't a product I thought I'd like once I opened it, however I surprised myself. It's definitely an illuminating powder but you use it to set your makeup. It does have glitter in it but I promise it isn't visible or noticeable on the face.

I picked up 6 products from Maybelline. Firstly I had to get my hands on the new Colour Tattoos. If you saw my collection post you'll know I love these things! I can't wait to try out the new Leather formula shades in Creamy Beige and Chocolate Suede (£4.99 each) as they're the kind of neutral shades I live for. I then got myself the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer, (£7.99) which I've reviewed here. I finally jumped on the bandwagon and picked up the Maybelline Instant Ant-Age Eraser Eye Concealer (£7.99). I've already planned a post on this but I'm seriously impressed with this product and I normally have no luck at all with drugstore concealers! I also caved in and got myself the Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara in Dark Brown (£4.99) which again is not a product I expected to like. It's early days but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Finally I got myself the Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara (£5.99). It's another more recent purchase but I'm enjoying using it so far. The wand reminded me a little of the new Benefit Roller Lash mascara so I'm interested to see if it's a dupe!

L'Oreal isn't a brand I'm usually really on it with however I have bought a fair few things from them. I picked up the Miss Manga Waterproof Mascara and the Miss Manga Mega Punky Mascara (£8.99 each). Although I've been testing them a while I'm still a little undecided so I'll hold off posting on them for now. I also got the new Smokissime Eyeliner in Brown Smoke (£5.99), which hasn't really bowled me over so far but I'll give it another go. It's a brown sparkly powder eyeliner with a smudger applicator. Finally I got my hands on the Infallible 24-Hour Foundation (£9.99) and the True Match Foundation (£9.99). I think I got confused with the Infallible one as I thought it was a new matte version, but that appears to be US-only right now. I was very disappointed that even the darkest shade is only just about alright for me. I was also confused by the shading of the True Match as after around 'W4' the W shades stop being warm at all! So I got N7 in the end.

I made a quick stop at Rimmel. I caved in to the hype and picked up the 5-Pan Eyeshadow in Brixton Brown (£6.99), which I've been really liking so far! As well as this I got an oldie but a goodie; the Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black Brown (£2.99).

When I saw Max Factor had brought out some potential Hourglass dupes, obviously I rushed out and picked up a couple! I chose the Creme Puff Blushes (£8.99 each) in Lavish Mauve and Gorgeous Berries, which look like gorgeous highlighting blushers.

From Collection I got the Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Eyeliner (£2.99), which is just amazing! Several weeks later it's still so pigmented, plus it's the perfect shape and size to get the perfect feline flick. Boots also kindly sent me the No7 Instant Radiance Under Eye Concealer* (£13.50), which I'm yet to try but I'm hoping is a YSL dupe.

Well, that's a lot of makeup...I'll be posting reviews over the next few weeks but if you've tried any of these products I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  13. Great haul, I really want to hit the shops now! Definitely think the Maybelline might be a dupe for the new Benefit mascara, did you get a free Roller Lash with your Elle magazine? (I did, can't wait to try it!) xx

  14. I was pleased with the Bourgeois CC Cream (even though for paler skins it is indeed a tad orangey), let us know what you think of it! It doesn't beat my beloved Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector for oily/combination skin, which has pretty much become a new layer of my epiderm (I think I've had at least some of it on for something like 80% of the time I spent awake in the past three years...) but I definitely like the Bourgois one for a little less coverage in the summer (perfect to get a sun-kissed skin!)
