To Buy or Not To Buy? || Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection

As soon as I saw these brushes on Instagram I thought to myself 'yes: got to have them!' They definitely looked more expensive and extravagant than the standard Real Techniques line and I assumed this would mean a slightly higher price point. However my jaw dropped when I read that the single brushes would be retailing for up to £25!

I feel in the UK we already pay far above the odds for Real Techniques brushes because of the pretty standard 'let's change the $ to a £' rip-off. The fact these are Ulta-exclusive in the US means we can't even order off the Real Techniques website in dollars (which would decrease the price considerably). I feel as though a big draw of the Real Techniques brand is that they're professional brushes at affordable prices so this was an odd move.

By pricing the range so high they are pitting themselves against the likes of more premium brands such as MAC. Perhaps the quality will be considerably better than the usual line (which, to be fair, is already pretty good) but at the end of the day Real Techniques isn't a premium brand and there's nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I'll be waiting to read some reviews before I make a final decision but as of right now, I just don't want to spend £25 on a single Real Techniques brush and that's that. I've been debating over whether £55 + international p&p is too expensive for the Zoeva Rose Gold set, but Bold Metals makes them look like a bargain! I love Pixiwoo and I love Real Techniques brushes but to be honest, I will be buying Rose Gold before I buy Bold Metals. But right now I'm more than happy with my amazing Nanshy set, which was £35 for 5 brushes!

You can now see the range on the Boots website here

Will you be buying any of the Bold Metals Collection?

  1. It's such a shame they have gone so expensive on this collection, granted that they are really pretty and I'm sure good quality but it's just beyond what I can justify unfortunately when the brand isn't a huge established brand like for example MAC or Nars which are a similar price anyway x

  2. I was really excited about these brushes when I saw it on their instagram.
I'm hoping the price wouldn't be that steep here in UK when there are released~

It is a bit steep, but I am always sold by packaging so I may purchase 1 or 2 depending on pricing. Thank you for sharing, I hope you have a lovely day ♥

  3. I was really disappointed to see how expensive these were, they look like beautiful brushes and I'm sure the quality is there but for me, the appeal of RT has always been good quality at an affordable price, and as you say this is rivalling the likes of MAC in terms of price - it's just not an option for me to spend that much!

    1. Yeah, they were manufacturing great quality brushes at low prices before so I'm not sure how much better these could be to justify the high-end price xx

  4. I love the look of these but they do seem a bit pricey - i'm going to wait until i'm back in the US in February to pick these up from Ulta. Hopefully by then a few reviews will have popped up too! x

  5. It's a shame because everything about them seems stunning except the price! I seen somebody else on a blogpost saying they are releasing a starter pack with 4 brushes for £25 yet the brushes are £25 each? I'm not too sure on that one as I've only seen the one girl say it but I'm hoping it is! x

  6. I couldn't believe the price when I found out. To be honest if they truly will be this pricey I think I will stick to getting myself some of the new Zoeva brushes that are released soon x

  7. One of the reasons why Real Techniques were my first brush set was because they were so affordable and I could get a whole set for the price of one high end brush. I'm not too sure that I'll be purchasing one of these x

  8. I have never bought my own RT brushes because I believe that the prices are quite high already. I know they are 'affordable' but they weren't for my as a student earning £100 a month, I was literally getting brushes as cheap as I possibly could!!

    1. Yeah they're definitely a little pricey if you buy through Boots/Superdrug, the UK prices are so inflated! xx

  9. I've bought real techniques brushes in the past and I really like them. But both sets were around £20 for 4 brushes - total bargain in my eyes. I wouldn't mind the price but the point is that they're 'affordable' brushes available on the high street, so why should they charge the same you'd expect from Mac, Bobbi Brown etc. I don't get it.

I'm tempted to just buy the Zooeva brush set after all, too! It'll work out better and they're rose gold anyway!

    1. Exactly - if I'm spending that much I'm going to go for MAC/Nars/Bobbi Brown xx

  11. I completely agree with you! My jaw dropped when I saw the euro price tags.. I think we pay so much more over here and in the UK than the US anyway. I knew they'd be a bit more expensive than the regular RT line, but seriously?! Getting a bit too cheeky with their prices I think! Especially when, as you said, you can get so many other beautiful rose gold/gold metal brushes for much cheaper! Hmmmm.. I'll have to feel them myself and see! x

    1. Yeah we really do - the only way I'm getting these is if they release them on the Real Techniques US website, as UK shipping is only about $3 xx

  12. They're on the top of my wishlist for 2015 but realistically it's just not going to happen! I'm in desperate need for new brushes but £25 per brush is pretty excessive. Thanks for your suggestions though, the Zoeva set looks gorgeous and are a bit more likely on my budget!

    1. Yeah I think if you want to spend then go for a high-end brand, otherwise the Zoeva ones are a good alternative! xx

  13. I was also so excited about these when I saw them on Instagram, but my jaw hit the floor hard when I saw the prices. I'm on the fence about them as I've been loving Zoeva brushes and find it hard to believe these needed to be this expensive. I do believe they will be lovely brushes. But not sure I'd spend £25 in one when I could buy a whole set for about double the price. I'm also curious about Nanshy. Might try some of their brushes too. xx

  14. Been thinking about these brushes all weekend (sad I know) and you make such a good point - the Zoeva rose gold set is an investment but you do get value for money and the quality is incredible (and there are extensive reviews online). With these brushes they better wash themselves for the extortionate price-point, and it might take me a while before I give one a go. Writing my Me-Time tag now (thanks for tagging me), great posts as always! Xx

    1. Haha if it makes you feel any better, I had a dream about makeup brushes the other night...
And haha I completely agree - maybe if they come out on the US Real techniques site or my boyfriend can get me them in New York as they're quite a lot cheaper in dollars xx

  15. I'm still hesitating over the Zoeva Rose Gold collection myself for similar reasons as the ones you mentioned. I love those brushes of them that I do own already (I've had most of them for going on five years, and the only one that's shed a single hair so far is a free promo I got with the current German issue of Cosmopolitan), but €65 plus shipping? Ouch.
For that same reason, I'll probably be passing up the RT Bold Metals. I've been wanting to try the range for a while, but I'll probably stick with the regular ones; I can't justify spending that kind of money on brushes atm.

    1. Wow the Zoeva definitely sound like amazing value if they lasted you that long but if you have most of them I guess it's not worth it just for the prettier handles xx

  16. I know what you mean. I was surprised when I saw the price but they made a recent video explaining the collection. It makes a lot more sense now. I still don't know if I'll buy them. I really don't need any more brushes! I might try the eye brushes though. They are slightly less expensive and I'll use them more. They've said that the quality is much better than the normal line so maybe it's worth investing in. I think I'll wait for reviews too! :) x

  17. I do think they are gorgeous brushes - especially the rose gold brushes! But I just can't justify spending that much on them when there are so many other incredible quality brushes out there for a more reasonable price. That and the fact that RT brushes have never really blown me away in comparison to the likes of Zoeva.
