Today we're talking skincare for makeup lovers (let me know if you want me to flip it and do a post on the reverse!) Skincare that plays well with makeup, that enhances your application and which helps remove it all at the end of the day...

We'll start with makeup prep. One of my favourite moisturisers to use under makeup on my drier skin type is the Trinny London Energise Me Niacinamide Moisturiser* | £42. It softens my skin, takes care of dry patches and it's a one-step moisturiser with a multi-active so there's no need to faff around with an additional serum. Niacinamide is a great multi-active which can regulate oil production in the skin, boost up ceramide production (strengthening the skin barrier and keeping dryness and irritation at bay) and prevent the spread of discolouration through the skin. It's a great all-rounder to get into your routine if you're not doing a lot of skincare steps and want the most bang for your buck. This is nourishing but not heavy, substantial but never greasy and it doesn't pill under makeup, instead offering a soft, cushiony base for it to glide right onto.

I also wanted to shout out a sunscreen that's perfect under makeup; the Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Hydrating Skinscreen SPF 50+ | £34. This it your sunscreen and primer in one; if you know you should be using daily SPF but find yourself struggling to add an extra step in your skincare routine then this is perfect. This is a lightweight, hydrating, dewy-but-not-greasy lotion that absorbs effortlessly without any cast. It has a very slight peachy tone to it, knocking out some discolouration without being overly tinted; it will still work for just about any skin tone. It has a high level of broad spectrum and visible light protection, protecting against burn but also preventing premature ageing. It creates a wonderfully soft, smooth base for your makeup to glide on over, alongside a very good level of protection that makes daily sunscreen easy. It's easy to apply, easy to wear, elegant, non-irritating and actually enhances your makeup looks!

If you want to brighten up your eye are with both makeup and skincare, try the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright + Eye Creme* | £37 | mixed in with a little concealer. This is a light-reflecting, peachy-toned concealer that visually helps cancel out dark circles whilst reducing their appearance, plus it has a moisturising but easily-absorbed texture that sits really nicely under makeup. And not just that! It contains plenty of ingredients to help improve the look of your eye area over time. It's formulated with three Vitamin C derivatives to help brighten discolouration in the eye area and give it an antioxidant boost, protecting this thin skin from environmental damage. The glycerin, shea butter and jojoba oil will also tackle dehydration creases and crepey skin caused by dryness. Mixed in with your concealer, this adds a correcting tone in there, as well as some much-needed luminosity for dark eyes.

The next product I have to discuss is both a skincare product and a makeup finishing product in one: the Pixi Rose Glow Mist* | £16. This is a dual-phase mist containing water-based ingredients (including glycerin, panthenol and aloe) and oil-based ingredients (including argan, avocado and rose oils) to both nourish and hydrate the skin. Simply shake the bottle to combine the two and give your face a good misting for dewy, hydrated, but never greasy skin. Under makeup, it creates that lovely, soft canvas, over makeup, it just meshes everything together for a flawless complexion look.

Finally, we have a product to use the night before you want that flawless complexion for a big event and perfected makeup look: the Versed Doctor's Visit Instant Resurfacing Mask* | £16.50. This is an exfoliating jelly mask that can be used once a week and / or before a big event to ensure you're working with the best possible canvas. It gentle smooths the skin and clears dead skin cells (therefore boosting your natural glow) with a blend of AHAs, glycolic and lactic acid. The hydrating glycerin base and the short contact time the product requires to exfoliate the skin makes it a nice gentle option; you'll never reach for a harsh scrub again!

What are your favourite skincare products for a good makeup day?
