Pixi Beauty Additions

Over the past few months I've acquired some new bits from Pixi, so I thought I'd review them for you today! There's a mixture of skincare (which I've had a good long time to try out) and makeup, plus if you missed my first Pixi brand focus, you can check that out here (this post and this post also feature reviews). Let me know if you'd like me to do a post on my top 10 must-haves too because I feel like I've tried out so much from this brand now!

Skincare

Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse | £24 | This is the product that really got double-cleansing on the radar for people who aren't obsessed with beauty. It's a functional duo that always does the job: one side is a solid oil cleanser (my preferred method for removing makeup because it can lift even stubborn, waterproof black eyeliner and mascara) and the other a cream cleanser (which is moisturising but lightweight). Part of the reason why it's great is that the ingredients are gentle, it's fragrance-free and will suit most skin types. Paired with a damp muslin cloth, the oil cleanser does a great job of getting rid of makeup, whereas the cream cleanser is great for removing any lingering dirt and hydrating the skin afterwards.

Glow O2 Oxygen Mask | £26 | I've tried this mask a few times and I just really wasn't that impressed with it. I'm rarely disappointed in Pixi skincare but I just don't think this mask did anything hugely significant for my skin. It has an unusual formula - it kind of bubbles on the skin - so you leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing. It does have a bit of a plumping and hydrating effect, however not really to the extent that I'd say you should rush out and buy this product.

Peel & Polish | £26 | I absolutely love this product because it's essentially an at-home micro-exfoliant. It comes in a cream base, which means it's quite hydrating as well as the fine particles buffing away any dead skin cells. It's nothing overly abrasive and doesn't leave my skin red after use, however it always does the job of leaving it so smooth and fresh.

Vitamin Wakeup Mist* | £16 | I love Pixi face mists - this one is great to use in the morning in place of a toner because it's so quick and easy. It smells and feels so refreshing on the skin and is hydrating without the stickiness. The ingredients include orange blossom water, lavender and citrus fruit extracts.

Sun Mist | £18 | This was a favourite of mine on holiday last year. I know it's important to keep your sun protection topped up throughout the day, but that can be quite impractical on the face when you're wearing makeup! This milky broad spectrum sunscreen mist is the perfect solution, because you can spritz it on your face throughout the day and it won't ruin your makeup, and the size makes it easy to throw in your handbag. It smells lovely and although it has a slightly heavier texture, it isn't sticky and I actually find it nice and hydrating.

Rose Caviar Essence* | £26 | This is an unusual gel formula that of course looks gorgeous with the suspended rose petal effect. It's intended to be used as a serum, so after cleansing and toning but before your moisturiser. The texture is nice and lightweight so it absorbs nicely into the skin (it practically melts!) It has a lovely plumping and hydrating effect and it's just a quick product to apply that leaves my skin looking and feeling fresh.

Rose Flash Balm* | £26 | This is a non-greasy, non-sticky cream-based product that can be applied heavily as a mask or used as a priming moisturiser before your makeup. Like the Essence it has a light, pleasant rose fragrance. I was initially a little bit concerned that this wouldn't be hydrating enough for me, however it makes my skin look nice and healthy (I'd recommend using a hydrating primer like the Rose Essence with it if you're more towards the dry end of the spectrum). It smooths the skin nicely and actually gives a satin-matte finish, getting rid of any surface shine and ensuring my foundation applies evenly and lasts throughout the day.

Makeup

Maryam Maquillage Strobe & Bronze Palette* | £24 | I actually have the contour palette from this collection and it's really lovely so I was excited to give the highlighting and bronzing version a go. I really love this highlighter formula - it's so smooth and pigmented, giving that intense glow without obviously sitting on the surface of the skin. I love all four of the shades in here as well - there's a true gold, a muted neutral champagne, a peachy warm gold and a muted bronze. You then get two matte bronzing shades, one a little cooler and more defining and one warmer and more natural. They have lovely colour payoff (nothing too strong but noticeable without the need to keep building up on it) and blend out evenly with ease.

Asyn Novard Glowy Powders in Rome Rose* & Santorini Sunset | £14 each | This is a really lovely highlighter formula with a soft, smooth texture. There's no glitter, instead it gives off a soft satin sheen that looks nice and natural on the skin. Rome Rose is a rosy-pink colour that I personally use to top off my blusher and give it some glow as opposed to highlighting all over my face with it. Santorini Sunset is a light but warm-toned gold that I really love - the colour on my skin tone gives quite an intense highlight but the finish is still very low-key.

Mattelustre Lipsticks in Rose Naturelle, Bitten Rose & Plum Berry* | £14 each | I've actually tried this formula before and it's so hard to describe! It does have a creamy, opaque finish but a slight sheen, though in some ways does give a matte finish (in that it doesn't look 'shiny'). It lasts pretty well - once it begins to wear off, it does leave a stain behind that lasts for a couple more hours. Rose Naturelle is a slightly cool rose-nude colour that doesn't personally do me any favours! Bitten Rose is a more mid-toned rasberry. Plum Berry is a vibrant jam-toned purple.

Shea Butter Lip Balms in Sweet Peach, Pixi Pink & Ripe Raspberry* | £8 each | I used to have a few of these however I'd totally forgotten about them! They have a nice moisturising formula that gives off a surprising amount of colour - especially the non-nude shades. Sweet Peach is a warm peachy nude. Pixi Pink isn't really my thing as it's very much a true pink! Ripe Raspberry is really pretty, especially for this time of year, as the raspberry shade is warm and rich.

Mattelast Liquid Lipsticks in Au Naturelle, Matte Beige, Pastel Petal, Really Rose & Evening Rose* | £16 | I'm already kind of in love with this liquid lipstick formula! It has a creamy, but very opaque formula and sets down to be completely matte. It does transfer a little more than less comfortable formulas in my collection but I still find the wear time to be really, really great. Au Naturelle looks gorgeous in the tube, a sort of warm rosy nude shade, however for some reason it just looks a bit 'off' on me, unfortunately! Matte Beige is the Velvet Teddy sort of shade out of the bunch so I get a lot of use out of it. Pastel Pink is a muted mauve-y pink nude. Really Rose is a rich, deep pinky-rose tone. Evening Rose is a more muted berry rose.

Have you tried anything from Pixi recently?

  7. Peel & Polish is on my wishlist - I've been coming across quite a few good reviews of it, and I'm desperately in need of a good exfoliating product! I've never tried any Pixi makeup, but the liquid lipsticks are tempting (I'm always tempted by a new liquid lipstick formula!)

  10. Thanks for this post! Personally, my favourite skincare product from Pixi in their Glow Tonic - the only face tonic/water that have actually made a difference on my skin as opposed to all the others I've tried!
I am yet to try their makeup, but the liquid lipsticks sound quite good!

Can you get Pixi makeup off the shelf somewhere in the UK? (like in M&S or something? I remember them having their skincare in store). Or can you only get it online?

  16. They're killing it right now. I am really enjoying the rose flash balm especially because it reminds me of the This Works one I love so much. Matte Beige is my favourite too. Au Naturelle looks a little strange on me too though I have used it with a brown liner and its better, not great xxx
