New Skincare on Trial #5

It's been a while since I updated you on the new products in my skincare rotation and what I think of them, so today I'm bringing you the latest round-up.

Cleansers

Tropic Smoothing Cleanser Perfection Purifier* | £16 | This is a lovely cream winter cleanser that can be used as a morning cleanse (for something fresh and light) or to remove makeup. I'd say that if you're wearing heavy black waterproof eye makeup, you'll probably still want to use something more oil-based, however this is a really nice option for those more low-maintenance days. It's softening and hydrating but isn't at all heavy and doesn't leave an excess on the skin. It's such a nice, gentle product and is made with natural ingredients.
Ingredients include: jojoba oil, avocado oil, eucalyptus

Time Bomb Peace + Quiet Coconut Cleansing Oil* | £25 | I have a confession to make about this product: I actually got a press release about it in my inbox but didn't request the product because the name just made me think it was anti-aging and not for me. Despite that it showed up on my doorstep a few days later so I shrugged and thought I might as well give it a go. I'm now very glad I did! Don't let the branding put you off; this is an excellent coconut oil-based makeup remover. I do love coconut oil as a cleanser but it always seems a bit of a faff. This product puts it in an easy container with a pump and it's super gentle as well as being incredibly effective at removing even the most stubborn eyeliner. I can't recommend it enough!
Ingredients include: coconut oil

Paula's Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil* | £21 | I have to start by saying that I've heard so much about Paula's Choice as a brand and have spent so many hours browsing the website for her informative content on skincare, however I'd actually never tried any of the product range! I think of myself as a bit of a cleansing oil connoisseur these days so I was looking forward to giving this a go. It doesn't have any sort of fragrance really, which is good for me because of my sensitive eyes. It gently eases off my makeup as I massage it into my skin. It works really well on eye makeup too. This does bill itself as being hydrating, however it comes off easily and doesn't leave my skin greasy (a positive in my books). It does the job whilst being gentle on the skin and not containing any nasty ingredients.
Ingredients include: coconut oil, sunflower oil

La Roche-Posay Purifying Cleansing Gel* | £12 | I loved this product so much more than I expected to! I'm not always on board with these kinds of foaming cleansing gels because they can be stripping, however this one isn't; it leaves my skin soft and thoroughly clean. It doesn't come out too quickly so you never dispense too much product, which is great. My skin went through a spotty period last week (very out of character for this time of year!) and I was using this every day - it really helped clear things up, so I'd recommend it for oily and combination skin types.
Ingredients include: Zinc, La Roche-Posay thermal spring water

Toners & Treatments

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Clarifying Toner* | £12 | I've been using this toner pretty much every day in the morning after cleansing. I like that despite being an anti-blemish product, it still softens and hydrates my skin. It contains microexfoliants in very small quantities so over time you get the anti-blemish and anti-scarring benefits without it being too harsh or intense on your skin. I don't get any level of irritation using this product, however my skin has been looking fresher and clearer since I introduced it into my routine.
Ingredients include: LHAs, Salicylic Acid

Urban Veda Soothing Facial Oil* | £29.99 | In terms of just a nice winter facial oil to use on my skin overnight, this is a good all-rounder. It does take a little bit of time to absorb, which isn't great but also isn't a deal-breaker - I just apply it about half an hour before bed when I settle down to read. It's nourishing, smoothing and calming all at the same time, and really plumps out my skin, making it nice and soft. I am a bit sceptical about the price, however, because my beloved Pai oil is less expensive!
Ingredients include: shatavari extract, jojoba seed oil, rosehip oil

Serums, Creams & Moisturisers

iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum* | £48 | I hadn't really come across this brand before so wasn't sure what to expect from it, however I've been really quite impressed. It's a very lightweight product that absorbs quickly into the skin and is a fuss-free step within my routine. It's such a great one for winter because it has an instant cooling, calming effect on irritated skin. It really hydrates my skin and sorts out any dehydration lines I might be suffering from as well. If you suffer from tight, uncomfortable skin in the winter then definitely look into adding this to your routine.
Ingredients include: antioxidants, Vitamin B5, Sodium Hyaluronate

Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Skin Brightening Corrector* | £28 | I've been using this serum everyday for the past few weeks. It has a lightweight, non-sticky, fast-absorbing formula and unlike some brightening serums out there, it's very gentle on the skin and I personally don't feel any sensation using it (probably because it isn't an acid exfoliant). It's nice and hydrating, making my skin look fresh and bright, as well as leaving it feeling very soft. It's a great product to maintain a healthy-looking complexion.
Ingredients include: Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E

Tropic Eye Revive Age-Defying Cream Concentrate* | £20 | I can't really comment on this from an anti-aging perspective, however it's a great, intensely moisturising eye cream. If you suffer from a dry eye area and fine lines then this is an incredibly hydrating option that smooths and softens the skin without being greasy.
Ingredients include: rosewater, kuki oil, macadamia seed oil

Tropic Eye Refresh Cooling Gel Roll-On* | £15 | This is a more refreshing alternative, so is probably the better product of the two for my personal skin concerns. It has a rollerball applicator which feels nice and cooling on my tired early-morning eyes. The product itself is a gel, which absorbs nicely and just de-puffs my eyes, making me look more fresh and awake.
Ingredients include: ginseng, cucumber

Tropic Skin Reviving Nourish Cream Concentrate* | £22 | If you're after an everyday winter moisturiser then definitely check this out. It isn't heavy but the texture is substantial enough that it feels nourishing on dry / dehydrated winter skin. It doesn't look greasy or clog my pores but is so hydrating, smoothing out any surface lines and leaving my skin soft and comfortable. It's very gentle and the ingredients are naturally derived so I think it's suitable when your skin is a little more sensitive too. It's been a really great one during the snowy weather when the cold has felt punishing on my skin!
Ingredients include: raspberry seed oil, Hyaluronic Acid

  3. I picked up the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel a couple of months ago when my skin was going through quite a rough patch blemish-wise, and I also found it really helped to clear things up! It's now a regular part of my routine because it does such a good job of keeping spots at bay.
