Amazing Beauty Dupes #4

It's been far too long since I brought you one of these posts, partly because I try not to point out dupes you probably already know about, but also I wanted them to really be viable alternatives to the high-end version. I have a little curated selection of dupes here that I'll talk you through today!

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey | £21 vs. KIKO Water Eyeshadow in 208 Light Gold | £8.90

This eyeshadow by KIKO has been compared to a number of highlighters (including Anastasia's So Hollywood and MAC's Whisper of Gilt) however when I got out my gold-toned high-end highlighters (including both of the aforementioned) I reckoned that Gilded Honey was the closest match. I know it's an eyeshadow but 208 has such a smooth formula that it still works beautifully as a highlighter. Both these products have a similar, soft, metallic sheen that doesn't contain any glitter. The Laura Geller is very slightly warmer in tone, however these light gold shades are super-similar so you might as well save your money!

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face Collection | £48 (discontinued) vs. ColourPop Pressed Powder Palette in Double Play | $16

This Becca palette is undoubtedly one of my most-used makeup products, however along with it being up there in price-point, it's also sadly no longer available! I've found dupe of my two most-used shades from the palette in the form of this super-affordable ColourPop duo (apologies in advance for the amount I mention this brand in this post! However even once you've got the products to the UK, they're still considerably cheaper than the high-end alternatives.) The shades I'm talking about are Amaretto and Champagne Pop from the Becca palette. Amaretto is a warm brown-nude luminous matte blusher that's super-pigmented but applies nicely and I can trust it to last on my skin. Getting Handsy, the matte nude from the ColourPop palette, is a really good match (though is slightly less pinky in undertone than Amaretto). I think the quality is excellent and this is a formula that definitely matches Becca's in pigment! Champagne Pop is the famous golden-champagne highlighter with peachy undertones - I can never get over how smooth the texture is and how amazing its dewy highlight looks! Ok, so Padded Down from the ColourPop palette isn't a perfect formula dupe, but there's no beating Becca in my opinion and I've tried products many times the price of this duo that weren't as good. Padded Down has a very similar colour but a slightly frostier tone and isn't quite as creamy in consistency, however it does still pack an incredible punch.

These two highlighters don't seem that similar at a glance, as they have quite different textures, however once applied, they give an almost identical look to the skin. The Becca is a more traditional cream product; it isn't thin or greasy in texture but does give a dewy, natural finish. The ColourPop formula is creamy but has a more spongy texture and more opaque pigmentation. It definitely has a little less 'slip' to it, so doesn't give the skin the same sort of healthy glow, however that does make it more suitable for shine-prone skin. The colours are very similar, though Opal is slightly more natural and Wisp more dimensional. Opal is more of a cool pearly gold whereas Wisp is a pearly champagne with a gold sheen.

I'm afraid this is one for US readers, however it was too good to miss out! It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments, however £20 for a lip balm is admittedly a little bit steep... They have such a creamy, nourishing texture and contain SPF. The wash of colour they give is much more pigmented than you'd expect from this kind of product too. Petal is a warm pinky-nude shade that I wear all the time! The Covergirl formula is admittedly much more of a traditional tinted lip balm, however it's still hydrating and gives a good amount of colour. Taffy is a similar shade but it's definitely a touch deeper and richer in tone.

This is more of a colour dupe than a formula dupe but I wanted to include it anyway. The HudaBeauty formula is more of a traditional liquid lipstick; it's very fluid and dries down to a completely matte and long-wearing finish. What I really like about this is that it's still pretty comfortable to wear and doesn't cling to dry patches or anything like that. The ColourPop formula is still a liquid lipstick (and is very opaque) but has a softer, slightly less 'true matte' finish, making it as easy to wear as a regular lipstick (though it isn't quite as long-wearing as HudaBeauty's). Girlfriend is a sandy beige nude and Strip is very similar (though has very slightly more pink in its undertones).

This is definitely more of an 'obvious dupe' but I think the formulas are so similar that I couldn't not mention it! In terms of packaging and product they're almost identical - on one end is a spooly, which is really great for brushing out the brows before applying the product and for afterwards, to ensure you get a natural finish, and on the other there's a very fine twist-up brow pencil. The payoff and the way these apply is very much alike, as they both have a formula that's the perfect balance between waxy and pigmented to create a natural brow look with minimal effort. The shade selections are slightly different - as with a lot of affordable brow products, the NYX shades run a  bit warmer (though they still look natural enough) and the Anastasia shades have that perfect, slightly ashier tone that mimics the shade of real brows. They're both long-wearing too - I've never had issues with smudging or fading with either product.

I'm a huuuuge fan of this dry oil by Nuxe - it can be used on the hair and nails but personally I love it as a body product because I have very dry skin. However it isn't cheap and I do tend to get through it at a ridiculous pace! The bottle pictured is actually the larger 100ml spray (£29) however for price comparison purposes I've linked the smaller version which comes in a 'splash' bottle as it's 50ml, like the Mandara Spa option. What I love about this is that it's a dry oil so never feels slippery or greasy despite being super-nourishing. The Mandara Spa version is slightly more oily but it still absorbs into my skin really well, giving amazing hydration. The main difference here is the scent, however I love them both! The Nuxe version contains their signature scent - a sort of nutty, warm, magnolia - whereas Mandara Spa's is coconut, fruit and almond.

Have you tried any of these dupes?

  8. Wow I really wanted the Laura Geller highlighter, but I actually think I prefer the dupe shade! It looks the tiniest bit lighter so it would probably work better on my skin tone!

  10. I had no idea that ColourPop has so many dupes! And yes, I am using NYX Micro Pencil instead of ABH, I don't see the point of paying extra when NYX is just as good.
