Too Faced Sweet Peach Collection | Worth the Hype?

I'm sure you're probably sick to the back teeth of hearing about the Too Faced Sweet Peach Collection, however I wanted to give my honest opinion on whether I think this launch is worth the hype and (more importantly) your money...

Background

Last Spring, Too Faced released the Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette and Instagram went absolutely insane for it. Personally, despite being drawn to the palette, I had to consider whether I'd actually use these sorts of shades. Clearly I considered it for a bit too long because by the time I checked back it was out of stock! Just before Christmas Too Faced launched an entire collection on their website (consisting of the original eyeshadow palette, a blusher, a face palette and several peach-toned lip glosses), however Debenhams had already announced they'd be stocking it in January so I couldn't be bothered with the extra fuss and cost of ordering from the States. That turned out to be a good shout because there was seemingly absolute chaos at Too Faced HQ in dealing with the influx of orders. It also meant I was able to gauge the reaction to the products and read some reviews before jumping in.

I'd originally been enamoured with the Glow palette, which contained a highlighter, blusher and bronzer, however after a lot of negative reviews I decided the Papa Don't Peach single blusher would be a better option. I also of course picked up the palette that inspired the entire collection.

The Packaging

If there's one thing Too Faced *always* nail, it's packaging! Both the products I chose from the collection come in tin packaging, which I've never had any problems with. The closure is secure and the packaging is durable in my experience. Of course it is peach-coloured and sickly-sweet in a way that only Too Faced can get away with! There's a dip-dye effect and there is peach-shaped detailing on both products. Much has been made about the scent of the collection. Personally, I don't find it to be too much; it's just a light, sweet (ok, slightly artificial) peach fragrance.

The Products

Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette | £39 | Too Faced has to have one of my favourite eyeshadow formulas of any brand; they're pigmented, creamy, easy to work with (they honestly blend like a DREAM!) and long-wearing. I find that the Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette is consistent with my experience of Too Faced so far with one exception: Talk Derby to Me, which I feel is patchy, uneven and lacking in opacity. The shades in this palette are overall very warm-toned; there are a couple of more vibrant peach tones but don't let those throw you off because I do think this is largely a nude palette of golds, bronzes and browns. My go-to shades are: Luscious (a light champagne-peach shimmer), Nectar (a light gold with a more subtle shimmer), Cobbler (a warm brown shimmer with slightly red undertones), Peach Pit (a darker warm brown-bronze shimmer with purple undertones), Caramelized (a warm gold-bronze shimmer), Puree (a very warm mid-toned brown matte) and Summer Yum (a medium-dark warm brown matte with orange undertones). Overall, I do really like this eyeshadow palette, however I also want to consider whether it's worthy of all the hype surrounding it.

Papa Don't Peach Blush | £25 | This is actually a Selfridges exclusive (thank you to Lauzrah for letting me use your free shipping!) which is slightly annoying. However it's SO worth getting your hands on; I've used this blusher almost every single day since I got it. It's a perfect everyday shade which never looks too much. It's a warm, natural peach tone with a subtle, slightly iridescent sheen. It blends out with ease and doesn't go patchy throughout the day. I'd say if you have a darker skin tone than mine you may struggle with this, however if you were eyeing up the Glow palette but like me found yourself put off by the negative reviews; this is the perfect alternative.

So, is it worth the hype?

Funnily enough, the Papa Don't Peach blusher is one of the products in this collection that's less hyped up, however to me it's the absolute highlight of this release! It's fantastic and if you pick up one thing from the Sweet Peach collection then make it this; it's a gorgeous colour in a fantastic formulation.

I have slightly more mixed feelings about the eyeshadow palette; it really is beautiful but with the benefit of hindsight I do think there are better shade selections out there for me personally. This is priced the same as the other Too Faced palettes and I feel like for £40 I should probably have bought something like the Chocolate Bar palette, which is more my sort of thing. At the same time I have got a lot more use out of this palette that I'd expected; almost as soon as I purchased this I kind of regretted it, thinking it'd just gather dust however I have been reaching for it a lot. If these shades call out to you then go for it because Too Faced eyeshadows are some of the best. If you're a little less certain then I'd check out one of their many other high-quality permanent palettes.

I'm going to have to go with a fence-sitting 'Maybe' on this one!

Have you tried anything from the Sweet Peach collection? If you did, was it worth the hype? If not, will you be?

  1. Thanks for the review Jasmine. I was only eyeing up the single blush and you have just confirmed that I need it. It's a little annoying that it's exclusive to Selfridges though:( xo

  2. I'm thinking I need to treat myself to the Sweet Peach Palette for Spring because to me, it has a few more warm shades than the Chocolate Bar palette and is a bit more wearable! The Papa Don't Peach blush though is so so cute! xx

  7. I haven't tried this but only really like maybe half the colours in the palette so just can't warrant the price tag! Will have to look out if they do a smaller size x

  9. The Papa Don't Peach blush looks incredible, I definitely want to try it out, but I also fell like I wouldn't get that much use from the palette. Thanks for the review!

  10. Somehow Too Faced packaging doesn't really appeal to me, I feel like I am too old for it. But I have heard amazing things about their shadow quality.

  11. It's funny because with so much hype I've felt for ages I should get the palette but I look at the shades and they just don't excite me. I'm going to swatch it in person and decide as I'm still a bit on the fence.

Definitely going to check the blush out though, that sounds perfect!

  12. I don't love Too Faced packaging generally, I feel like it could be more elegant and sleek, but I normally love their products. These swatches all look beautiful, though!

  15. I have to say I wasn't overly excited when I first heard about the release, the shades seemed a little too warm for me! I have only ever tried one Too Faced product - the Shadow Insurance primer which I love, that blush looks amazing though x

  18. I'm actually one of those weird people that isn't drawn to this range at all. I feel the hype but I don't get it. The palette is pretty but there's too many shades I know I wouldn't use at all. I'm glad you like the blush...xxx

  19. When this palette was first launched I wanted to get it asap, but after thinking about it they arent really shades that I would use often and I already have the chocolate bar palette and I adore it. I would love to try the Papa Dont Peach blush and the lipglosses though.

  20. Great review. I really wanted the Sweet Peach palette. I've literally been seeing it everywhere & with me being on a spending ban, it was killing me. Now that I think about it, the shades aren't too special & I'm pretty sure I could find similar ones in my collection already. I still want to try one palette from Too Faced though!

  21. I've never quite understood the hype with these. Maybe the blush, however I think it's because I'm not a fan of the whole 'super cutesy' theme that's going on. Appreciate the review though!!

  23. I've never tried any of the Too Faced eyeshadow palettes so I still do this day haven't smelt any of them, including the chocolate one. I know!! I am a sucker for packaging and I cannot complain about these as they are super pretty and will stand out on my desk, maybe it means I'd be drawn to it more? The colours aren't exactly my thing but luscious is so pretty!! The blush is pretty too but I feel with blushes they shouldn't be that expensive?!

  24. I really like the eyeshadow palette. I do like neutral brown but I do tend to prefer the slightly bolder ones, which is why I think I love it so much. I've not tried any other Too faced shadows so the formula completely blew me away! You were right to avoid the Blush and highlight palette. I love the sound of the blush. I picked up one the lips oils to (Which I love) so I'm thinking I need the blush to complete the collection haha xx

  25. I was the same as you before purchasing the eyeshadow palette, I thought about it too much that by the time I made the decision to buy - it was sold out! I was also a bit stupid and didn't know it was coming to Debenhams, so I ended up paying nearly £60 for just the eyeshadow palette - gutted about that! But at least I love it so it's not too much of an issue :) I was also massively put off the glow palette, so maybe I'll check out this blush as it looks gorgeous xo

  29. Papa Don't Peach is gorgeous! The shade would really suit my skin tone and I love the shimmer. The eyeshadow palette however doesn't inspire me that much, I've never been *in love* with Too Faced palettes because there's always these two or three shades that I know I'll never use. It's a shame though it the formula is so good!
