The Summer-to-Autumn Makeup Menu

I know it's a 'thing' to love Autumn in the blogging world and, whilst I can't deny I do love the colour palette, I'm clinging on to Summer with all my might! I've actually really been loving Summer makeup this year. I guess also for me, this year more than ever, Autumn means moving away from my hometown, exams starting up again and going to work in the dark then coming home in the dark... However that's all stuff for another post! (Though I should let you know that I will be posting 3 times a week until further notice instead of my usual 4. I'm super-busy with it all so apologies for the delay in replying to blog comments too!) Today we're focussing on the positives: the makeup. This has pretty much been my go-to makeup look that's somewhere between Summer and Autumn.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation | £31 | This is my perfect 'matte glow' base and I've been loving it recently because it's flawless, long-wearing and keeps the shine at bay yet still isn't caky (it's a medium coverage but easy to build on) and gives my skin the appearance of inner radiance. I just love the perfected but healthy look this gives to my skin. It's obviously my holy grail but I tend to put it on hold during the hottest months of the year. However as we move into Autumn it's back in a big way!

Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick | £23 | I absolutely love this foundation; the only drawback is that it doesn't last well on my skin on hot days so now we're moving into Autumn I'm using it a lot more. It's a stick foundation but unlike most of the options out there it isn't a thick, full formula. Instead it's very natural, glowing, beautiful finish. It's not matte but isn't dewy either, I just love the healthy 'my skin but better' look it gives. Grandest Golden Neutral is my perfect match and it's so easy to throw this in my bag to touch up on the go.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer | £20 | Although I'm not sure it'll de-throne my Urban Decay, I've really been enjoying the new concealer from Too Faced. A full review is on the way but it's a nice medium coverage and this works really well on my skin as a radiant under-eye concealer. I have to set this with powder though because otherwise it does crease quite easily.

ColourPop Cheek Shock Highlighter in Churro | $8 | This is the tie dye highlighter of dreams that I finally managed to get my hands on! It was well worth the wait because the bronze-gold colour is pretty perfect for my skin tone. This is a cream highlighter that gives a gorgeous dewy look to the skin in a very natural (and not at all shiny way). It's quite subtle but still gives a muted bronzed glow.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Fig Pop | $23 | Apologies but this gorgeous shade is only available in the US as far as I can see - but you can always order it from Sephora! I'm a massive fan of this blusher formula; it just applies so smoothly and evenly, it isn't too pigmented but you still get nice payoff. It doesn't go patchy and wears so well on my skin and has this slight sheen that gives it a radiant look on the skin. Essentially it's the perfect minimal-effort blusher; I can always trust it to do what I want it to! This is a really hard-to-describe mauve-y, peachy, plummy tone. There's a vibrancy to it however it isn't a bright shade, making it perfect for transitioning between the seasons.

MAC Mineralise Blush in Lovejoy* | £22 | This is a gorgeous reddish-brown-bronze-peachy highlighting blusher (containing a subtle gold sheen). It's somewhere between Autumnal and beach-bronzed, which I love for this time of year. It's very easy to apply and has surprisingly good pigmentation for a highlighting formula. I find it lasts so well on my skin and still looks nice and vibrant at the end of the day.

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed | £20 | Summer may be dying but I'm holding onto the sun-kissed look for as long as possible with the help of this bronzer! It's just that perfect warm-but-not-orange tone on me. It's a matte formula but the quality is so amazing; it glides on evenly with zero effort, adding dimension to my face without being overly pigmented or needing loads of blending out.

Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette | £18 | review | This is a perfect transitional collection of shades; you have your Summery warm neutrals (golds, bronzes and browns) but also these little pops of colour like the pink and purple that give it an Autumnal twist. I just love the quality of these shadows, the texture is so smooth and has amazing colour payoff. Even the mattes are incredibly pigmented but also blend out beautifully. The shades translate beautifully to the eyelids and wear really well. My current favourite look is Pure Ganache (the bright light gold shimmer) across the lid, (the warm caramel brown) Substitute for Love in the crease then deepened on the outer crease a little with the red-brown matte Freshly Toasted and finally the bronze-brown shimmer Subtle Blend on the outer part of the lid. If I'm feeling wild on the weekends (haha) I love a bit of the deep pink shimmer Warm Notes to make the crease pop.

Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow in On & On Bronze | £4.99 | Who am I trying to kid? I wear this all day every day. The height of summer to the depths of winter. However it is especially great during this time of year because the neutral-toned bronze-brown shimmer is beautiful for Summer or Autumn. It's a cream formula that's honestly just SO long-lasting! It looks stunning on the lids and as though you put in way more effort than you did, making it the perfect one-swipe-and-go shade. Or you can use it as a base for a nude smoky eye.

MAC Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pan in Woodwinked | £10 | This is a really warm antique gold bronze shimmer shade that really works on its own or with other shades. It's kind of bronzed, kind of Autumn leaves. It isn't the smoothest texture in the world but does have really good colour payoff and wears really well on me.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Smog | £15.50 | This is a gorgeous warm bronze-gold eyeliner with a subtle metallic sheen that's creamy but long-lasting. It pairs beautifully with all the eyeshadow shades in this post.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II | $20 | This shade has seen so much use from me recently! When it comes to nudes, Autumn shades tend to lean towards cooler tones, whereas Summer colours are a little more vibrant and this very warm-toned (almost orange) nude sits comfortably in the middle. This is going to be available in the UK any day now, you will be pleased to hear! It can be a little bit drying but it's nothing you can't sort with some lip balm. Despite the name I do need to touch this up during the day! I really like the little wand because it makes the very fluid formula easy to apply and touch up (it doesn't go caky or peel if you layer it either).

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Everything Nice | £9.50 | This very warm caramel-brown nude works equally well with a super-bronzed evening makeup look for Summer as it does with something a little more muted and Autumnal. I think the shade is so beautiful and is pretty much perfect for me. This is one of the least drying liquid lipstick formulas I've tried despite it being so opaque when applied and incredibly long-wearing.

What are your favourite colours and makeup looks to wear now we're moving from Summer to Autumn?

  9. I almost purchased Churro myself, but decided against it at the last moment because of the shipping. I would have purchased other products I wasn't truly wanting.
