Getting the Glow in Autumn

Autumn is upon us and if there's one thing I dread about the cooler months it's dry, dull skin! I'm combination so whilst my Summers are plagued with spots and shine, by the time October comes around it's in serious need of hydration and glow! I'm going to talk you through the skincare products I use to prep my skin, as well as the makeup I apply for hydrated, glowing skin.

If I have time (i.e. if it's a weekend or I'm off work!) I start with a face mask and my current product of choice is the Vichy Instant Glow Double Peel Mask* | £14.50 | because it's so gentle yet effective on my skin as well as being a total bargain. It contains both chemical and manual exfoliants so I leave it on for 10 minutes and when I wash it off I make sure to massage the very fine exfoliating particles into my skin. It buffs away and eats through any dead skin cells to reveal fresh, healthy, glowing skin.

I next move on to the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel | £29.50. I still haven't kicked my habit for this stuff! Despite it being a subtle effect for the price of the product, I do still find myself reaching for this on mornings when my skin looks dull and tired. I use this on clean but dry skin with my fingertips very slightly damp and I find that to be the best method for massaging the product in. I take my time to work it into my skin because it feels really luxurious, before rinsing with water (this is pretty quick and easy because it just emulsifies). I find my skin looks a little more awake, hydrated and radiant after use. If I don't have time for a mask then next I reach for my Pixi Glow Tonic | £18 | which is a great quick fix. It's essentially an acid toner so the AHA ingredients will exfoliate your skin chemically, revealing the glowing skin underneath. It's very gentle but so effective for me and also helps fade any annoying blemish scars.

I finish off my skincare routine with my hydration-and-glow dream team. I'm currently obsessed with the Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum* | £17. It's quite similar to the Vichy one I'd been using before but this is the same price the Vichy was before they randomly made it more expensive and you get the same amount of product still. It's a lightweight, water-based serum with a gel texture that absorbs so quickly into the skin. It leaves my skin so soft and hydrated. Finally I use the Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser | £16. This gel-based moisturiser never leaves my skin feeling sticky or greasy and there's no excess left behind on the surface. My skin looks glowing and healthy whenever I use this product.

To start off my makeup I prime with the Becca Backlight Priming Filter | £32. I actually got a sample of this with my Champagne Face Collection palette and although I really liked it, it wasn't quite right for my shine-prone Summer skin. However now the weather's cooling down, I decided to repurchase the full size. You only need a tiny amount applied before foundation and it leaves the skin with this incredible glow. What I love about this is that you can still tell you're wearing it even with quite a full coverage foundation. Though it can be used to tone down a very matte base, when I want serious glow I opt for the Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup | £28 | review. It's a light-medium coverage foundation with a healthy 'natural skin' finish. It's beautiful paired with the Becca primer and gives radiance without greasiness. It's one of the few glow-giving bases that still lasts well on my skin. My perfect pairing for brightening up dark circles is the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer | £20 | with the YSL Touche Éclat | £25. The Too Faced concealer gives the coverage as well as hydrating under my eyes and giving a radiant, perfected look to the skin. Touche Éclat (I use the shade 4.5 Luminous Sand to match my skin tone as opposed to the original version) then further brightens under my eyes, making me look awake even after 5 hours of sleep!

Onto cheeks; I start with the ColourPop Cheek Shock Highlighter in Dream Catcher | $8 | review. This shade has actually been discontinued but all of the ColourPop highlighters are amazing! This is a light gold shade with a pinky-peach iridescent sheen. I love how this cream formula isn't at all greasy but still blends out naturally and gives me a dewy glow. Next I use my Elf Small Stipple Brush | £4.50 | to apply the Lancome Cushion Blush Subtil in 025 Sorbet Grenadine* | £28 | review. This just adds such a natural flush of colour. It has a very fluid texture and gives the skin a healthy look. It's a gorgeous vibrant peachy-pink shade. Of course I have to add in some bronzer to try and keep the sun-kissed Summer look going for as long as possible. At the moment I really like using MAC's Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Give Me Sun! | £24 | because it's a matte bronzer but blends out so smoothly. It's very warm-toned however doesn't look orange on my skin and gives a natural look. Finally I have a spritz of MAC Fix+ | £17.50 | to make sure everything looks seamless and hydrated.

This look is all about the skin really but I still like to finish off the look with the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour | £20 | review | and the Lancome Juicy Shaker Lip Gloss in Vanilla Pop | £18. Copper is a gorgeous warm gold shade with the most amazing dewy, wet-look shimmer. It's easy to blend out across the lid but once it sets it won't crease or budge. To finish the look, I opt for the Lancome Juicy Shaker, which I never expected to like! It's less of a gloss and more of a nourishing tinted lip oil in very cool packaging. The shade Vanilla Pop is a rosy-berry colour.

  2. Love this kind of post - it's like 16 mini reviews! My skin is dry even in summer so when the weather turns colder I need to shovel on the moisturiser and luminizers - will definitely be trying the Avene serum, so thanks for the recommendation. I love a good dark tinted lip balm like the Fresh one in Plum to make me feel Autumnal but hydrated too. McKirsty xox

  3. You perked my interest when mentioning TBS Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer. Have you tried their Vitamin C Instant Glow Enhancer? I love it so much, it's a primer that gives my skin glow boost, and very oily-skin friendly as well.

  14. My skin is exactly like yours. In summer it is shiny and when it gets colder, it looks dull and get complicated. Before I start my makeup, I need to have a good skincare routine to get rid of the dry bits and get some glow. I love that double glow mask, it is exfoliating and leaves the skin so soft. I need to add a little bit of glow to my makeup routine to brighten up the makeup. Copper is a gorgeous colour! x

  15. I have Laura Mercier Copper and went through a time when that is all I would wear because it's so stunning. I'm amazed that you managed to leave the Vichy Glow mask on your skin for 10 minutes, I left it that long once and my skin was angry red. LOL! I do love it as a mask though but 5 minutes is the most my skin can take.

    1. You must be really sensitive! Personally it's probably the mildest AHA mask I've tried and the intense REN one is a 10 minute treatment which only gets mildly tingly for me, I definitely don't feel anything at all with this xx

  21. I get super dry in the cooler months, too! The Becca primer is amazing, but since that's expensive, I use the L'Oreal Lumi primer instead. Becca's cream highlighters are great for a nice glow without that drying, powdery look.

  22. The Lancome juicy shaker is such a pretty shade, I never got a chance to check it out in stores but I'm really liking the color. My to go to product is to layer a liquid and powder highlight from Becca.
