My At-Home Facial Routine

Once a week I like to take a good half an hour to chill out, relax and give myself a little facial. I thought I'd share with you the products I like to use when I do this. I light a candle and put on my favourite YouTube videos, sometimes I'll do it whilst I'm running my bath and other times I'll line the products up on my shelf and do it whilst I'm in the tub.

I start by of course removing my makeup and recently I've been loving the Vivderma  Comforting Gellee Cleanser* | £32. This is up there for me with the Emma Hardie cleansing balm and I really didn't think I could like something as much as that! It has this really interesting gel formula that almost has the consistency and appearance of honey. You really don't need too much of this at all for it to work, so I take a small amount and massage it into my skin and across my eyes. It has the most luxurious texture on my skin and smells incredible so I definitely take my time with this! Once I've worked the product in then I take a warm, damp muslin cloth or flannel and use it to remove all of the product and my makeup. It's so effective at removing all my makeup and doesn't sting my eyes at all. It's so nourishing but isn't heavy and doesn't leave a residue on my skin. It's packed full of amazing Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Neroli, Argan Oil, Rose and lots more.

I always check that everything is gone from the awkward spots by going over my face with some Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water | £19. I recently picked up this version of Bioderma with a pump and I'm never going back to the traditional bottle! It's so quick and easy; you just flip the lid open, take your cotton wool pad and press it straight onto the pump. It not only saves time but definitely stops me from dispensing too much product. After using the Vivderma cleanser I only need one cotton pad of this to ensure not a scrap of makeup is left on my face. This is by far my favourite micellar water because it's so gentle yet effective and I don't feel like I have to use much of it to get rid of stubborn makeup (even if I'm using it on a full face).

It's time for a face mask next and my current weapon of choice is the Niod Flavanone Mud Mask* | £29. I actually really like the packaging aesthetically but it is a bit impractical in terms of getting the product out! This mask has a mud/clay formula and has a bit of an antiseptic scent which I personally quite like. It has an unusual terracotta-red colour and dries down on the face over the 10 minutes I leave it on for. I was actually warned that this can have a bit of a tingling sensation but I personally don't experience this. I thought I should let you know though, just in case you're a little more sensitive to that sort of thing than me. It contains Amazonian Clay, Copper, Flavanone, Titanium and a whole host of other interesting ingredients. When I rinse this off my skin looks so much clearer and more glowing. It also just feels fresher and cleaner; like all the impurities have been drawn out of my skin. I'd say the results are on par with an AHA-based product, however this is cleansing at the same time. If you, like me, love a face mask that gives you immediate results then this is for you!

Next it's time to calm and cleanse my skin with the beautiful Trilogy Cream Cleanser | £23.50. I was actually sent a little set of mini products from Trilogy and this was among them. I loved it so much that I had to go out and grab the biggest size size they do it in! This also has really handy pump packaging, which is another reason why I grabbed this size because with the mini I had in a squeezy tube I'd sometimes end up with too much product. This is a gorgeous, lightweight cream cleanser that contains Rosehip, Evening Primrose Oil and Aloe Vera. Once I've spread the product across my skin, I go in with my Crystal Ionic Sonic Cleansing Brush* | £69.99. This is so much nicer and gentler on my skin than a fibre brush. It really works the product in and ensures my skin is left feeling soft, clean and moisturised.

After cleansing, I rinse and fully dry my face, ready for an intensive exfoliation. As regular readers know, I'm not a big fan of face scrubs so often use chemical exfoliants, however my Pixi Glow Tonic isn't always enough so once a week I've been using the PMD Personal Microderm* | £135. I was really curious to try this because it's such a cult product. It comes with several discs of varying intensity and all you have to do is attach one, flick the switch and the disc vibrates and in the plastic around it, there's a suction. I personally tend to go for the smaller disc, however I can see myself building up to a larger one during winter when my skin is a lot drier. There's a bit of a knack to this, however by about the second time I'd used it, I was pretty confident. I pull my skin taught before going over the surface with this. You aren't supposed to go over the same area more than twice and to be honest you shouldn't need to. I was pleasantly surprised at how gentle this is. A few seconds after use, I have very slight redness from the suction but that vanishes quickly and there's no irritation. I'm so impressed with the results from this; my skin looks much fresher and more radiant. My makeup also applies more evenly as the surface of my skin is smoother and my enlarged pores are looking so much better. It is an initial investment but the device itself is going to last you years and you can buy a pack of 6 refill discs for under £20, and to be honest it'll still set you back less than a lot of facials!

To tone my skin I have a quick spritz of my Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater | £5.95. I find this spray very hydrating and refreshing, plus it's very calming on my skin. Once that's absorbed, I kick back and relax with the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels* | £25 (x8) and Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Face Gels* | £30 (x8). These are like little pads shaped for your face so you just peel off the back to reveal the gel and pop them straight on. They're very cooling and calming, even towards the end of the 10 minutes I leave them on for. The eye gels really help to combat the puffiness and my under-eye area feels firmer and less tired. I guess the face-gels are a little more of an anti-aging product but I do get a few little fine lines and whilst it's nothing major, I'd rather use something like this now than regret not taking preventative measures later. Again, I just really love the cooling, refreshing sensation and those little lines definitely look less visible afterwards. If you also have little lines that aren't anything major but you'd still prefer then not to be there then these are a really great and reasonably affordable option.

Finally, before bed I apply my Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra Comfort Face Cream | £24. I often use this during the day in the Winter but it makes a really great night cream too. It has that gorgeous honey scent of the entire Reve de Miel range and is so hydrating and nourishing without feeling heavy or greasy on my skin. It has such a beautiful texture that I definitely take an extra five minutes to massage it in properly.

  4. Your facial evenings sound amazing! My skincare hasn't been great over the summer as I've been alternating my nights at my/my fiances parents houses and didn't want to have two of everything, and yet always forget something. Hoping I will kick myself into gear when I move in a couple of weeks! x

  25. I love this kind of pampering sessions and I always try to find the time for it in the weekend. Recently I've been trying the 3 steps masks using an exfoliating, a clay and a moisturizing mask one after the other. The result has been great, though it takes a lot of time to wait or them. Thanks for all the products suggestions, I will check out the Niod face mask because I'm currently using their cleanser and it's really good. I always wanted to try something from Trilogy but I haven't had the chance to do so yet.
    Have a great day xx
