Amazing Beauty Dupes #3

If there’s one thing I love it’s spotting a good dupe – especially if it’s one I’ve not seen pointed out before! I’ve finally saved up enough products that are as good as (or sometimes even better than) their high-end equivalents to do another of these posts. I hope you enjoy it, and save yourself a bit of money in the process.

For a long time MAC seemed to have the monopoly on customisable eyeshadow palettes where you could hand-pick each individual shade to create your perfect palette. However it was a pricey investment at a minimum of £10 per shade! So when Makeup Geek finally hit the UK at the end of last year, everyone understandably went crazy for it! I find the quality of their eyeshadows as good as and sometimes better than MAC’s for half the price, though their shade range isn’t as extensive (but whose is, really?)

The colour dupe I have to show you specifically is MAC Texture against MUG Frappe. They’re both very warm-toned caramel brown shades, which I love to wear in my crease for an everyday neutral look. Texture is a Satin finish (which I find much creamier than MAC’s Matte formula) whereas Frappe is billed as a Matte, however I’d say they both have a very slight sheen in the pan that doesn’t really translate once applied. I find the formulas of these two comparable, though MUG actually slightly beats out MAC in terms of how creamy, easy to blend, pigmented and long-lasting Frappe is. The main difference between the colours is that Texture is warmer than Frappe.

ABH’s brow pomade has to be one of the most talked-about eyebrow products in existence! I believe it was the first formulation of its kind; softer than a wax but very pigmented and long-lasting. I have pretty uneven eyebrows so I love this for getting the shape more or less the same on both of them. I have the shade Granite in this, which is perfect if you have dark brown (almost black) hair and prefer a slightly cooler tone for your brows. The NYX offering is virtually identical to the Anastasia version.

For me the main difference is the shades: there are less of them! As well as being a little more limited, NYX's shades also seem to run slightly warmer overall, though the shade Expresso still looks nice and natural on me. However in formula I honestly find the two of these to be exactly the same. The only reason to go for the more expensive option is if you can’t find a shade that’s right for you from NYX.

I’m a certified liquid lipstick junkie so finding a dupe in my stash was almost inevitable! The formulas of these differ a little, though I like them both so it’s probably going to come down to personal preference, but the shades are virtually the same. The Balm’s formula is more of a traditional liquid lipstick in that it’s very fluid, whereas NYX’s is thicker, creamier and more comfortable on the lips. Whilst the Balm’s lasts longer, it’s a bit of a trade off because it feels a little more drying than NYX’s. The colour of both of these is that deep dusky pink-nude that I love! Committed is more muted whereas Cannes is a little deeper and richer.

Benefit Sun Beam Highlighter | £19.50 vs. Mememe Beat the Blues in Oyster Gold | £7.50

I'd wanted Sun Beam for ages before I finally picked it up with my Boots points but I do also have this dupe in my stash (there's another shade that's very similar to High Beam too). The packaging and formulas are very similar, though I'd say the Beat the Blues is a little thinner in consistency. They both have a pearly sheen to them that gives your skin a beautiful, natural dewy highlight. The main difference for me is the colour; Sun Beam is definitely deeper and more bronzed whereas Oyster Gold is quite a bit lighter.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva | £15.50 vs. Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Divine Wine | £6.99

Ok this is quite an obvious one, but still worth a mention! It's probably not the most seasonal shade right now (though I'm loving the purple lips with romantic makeup look I've seen on the catwalk for this season) but they're both a deep purple-red wine colour. I personally think the shades are identical! The Maybelline formula, as the name suggests, is a little creamier in formula and MAC's is slightly more drying. That means Diva tends to last longer but isn't quite as comfortable to wear, whereas Divine Wine does tend to transfer a little more.

MAC Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pan in All That Glitters | £10 vs. NYX Hot Single Eyeshadow in Innocent | £3.50

All That Glitters has to be one of my most-used eyeshadows! I'd been wanting to try NYX's much-praised singles for a while and was immediately drawn to Innocent. It took a while for me to make the connection but these two are pretty similar. Although the NYX eyeshadows come in packaging, you can easily depot this like MAC's if you want. The formulation is very similar both in texture, pigmentation and wear-time, making NYX another amazing MAC alternative for eyeshadows. As you can see; the shades are very similar as they both have that 'nude with a bit of bronze and peach thrown in' thing going on. I'd say All That Glitters is very slightly darker but otherwise they're very comparable and can both be used as inner-corner highlights or as lid shades.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anna* | £24 vs. ColourPop Matte Lippie Stix in Lumiere | $5

Ok so this isn't a great one for UK-ers, however if you do make a ColourPop order I recommend bearing this shade in mind! Ok so you don't get the sleek black packaging with that satisfying magnetic closure with the $5 offering, but there's honestly not much else in this comparison! They're both that gorgeous pinky-mauve that's more-than-a-nude but still less-than-a-colour. They both have a gorgeously creamy and pigmented formulation that's comfortable on my lips and has a very slight sheen. Although the ColourPop option is billed as matte, I do feel it has the same satin finish as Anna. The only difference in formula is that Anna is very slightly more opaque on initial application than Lumiere but I'm reaching! If you can get your hands on ColourPop then I definitely recommend saving on this occasion.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold | £22 vs. Rosie for Autograph  Eyeshadow Stick in Almond Eyes | £12.50

I only have a mini of the Laura Mercier that was part of a limited edition set (obviously that isn't £20!) so I'm really glad to have found a dupe before I repurchased the full size. This is also one of the rare occasions where the dupe has prettier packaging than the original! I have to say the Laura Mercier formula has to be one of my favourites for cream eyeshadows but I honestly think  Autograph's is just as good! They're both creamy, pigmented, long-wearing and crease-proof. The shades are virtually identical; cream-toned with a bit of a sheen (I find them gorgeous as inner-corner highlights). The products are virtually identical in every way so why not save yourself some money?

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil | £18 vs. La Maison de Senteurs Bath & Shower Oil | £8.50

My final dupe isn't makeup but I couldn't resist sharing it! I noticed my mum had this in the bathroom and gave it a sneaky try. The formula is honestly identical to my L'Occitane one; it's an emulsifying shower oil that leaves my skin so nourished and hydrated. I went out immediately and got my own for when my L'Occitane runs out as this is such a great little bargain. The main difference is that the L'Occitane is almond-scented and the M&S alternative is olive-scented. This doesn't really bother me as the scent of both is very light, and whilst I'd love it if M&S brought out an almond version - for me the price difference is to big to justify repurchasing L'Occitane's when the formula is the same to me.

I really hope this post was helpful and helped you discover some dupes you might not have known about!

  25. Wow, these dupes are amazing!

I never tried The Balms liquid lipsticks but I have a whole bunch of the NYX soft matte lip creams and I have a love/hate thing going on with them. Love how easy they are, beautiful shades and very comfortable but hate how they emphasize every single line in my lips and make them stand out somehow...

I love the look of the NYX eyebrow product but I'm the same as you, I have ashy eyebrows so definitely need ABH for the colour range, hopefully NYX will one day extend.

Congratulations on the 30k by the way Jasmine, been away for the weekend and just came on to see. So well deserved :)
