I must admit to splurging on a couple of Clinique Chubby Sticks, however I do appreciate that whilst they’re iconic, they’re essentially a tinted lip balm. They have to be one of the most ‘duped’ products out there and I own a fair few alternatives so I thought I’d talk you through them!
The Originals: Clinique Chubby Stick and Chubby Stick Intense | £17 each
I have two of the Clinique Chubby Sticks; both one of the regular ones and one of the Intense versions. Whole Lotta Honey is a brown nude shade from the original line which adds a nice little bit of colour and moisture. It's nice, though not really something I'd get really excited about given the price. The Intense version, which I have in Curviest Caramel, was a lot more impressive to me. It's a thicker, more pigmented formula in a pink-brown nude colour. Obviously neither are the longest-lasting thing in the world but that's kind of a given with this sort of sheer lip product.

Starting with the most affordable but a surprise hit for me; it's the Seventeen Lip Crayons. I honestly think there's very little difference in terms of application, pigmentation and wear-time between the original Clinique Chubby Stick formula and these, the only thing separating them is the variety of shades. However if you swatch any colours you like the look of then make sure you get your hands on some of these! I have Bold*, a sort of orange coral shade, Heartbreaker* which is a sort of bright pinky-purple berry and Knockout*, a deeper red berry colour.
Rimmel Colour Rush Balms | £5.99
Rimmel also have a cheaper alternative to the Chubby Stick, which you can pick up for even less from Poundland. Not an Illusion is your standard pink nude, whereas Keep Mauvin is a more mauve-toned nude (as the name would suggest). If I were to be picky I'd say the main downside of this alternative is that a lot of the shades are a bit 'bleugh'; there are a lot of wishy washy nudes that would do few people any favours. However I can't really fault the formula as it is almost exactly like the original Clinique.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks
These have actually been repackaged as minis recently, however the shades are the same so I thought I'd still cover these off. I have two shades: Nudeist* (a warm caramel nude) and Raplumzel (a medium raspberry shade). These are a little different to Clinique's as they're more of a high-shine gloss formula than a tinted balm. However, having said that, I don't find them gloopy or sticky at all on the lips.

KIKO Creamy Lipglosses | £6.90
I have two shades in KIKO's offering:112 Vintage Rose (a deep pink) and 113 Burgundy (a red berry). Although KIKO usually trumps every other affordable brand for me, these aren't my favourite chubby stick dupes as they are more like a gloss than a balm and also contain quite a bit of shimmer. Although it doesn't translate so much on the lips, I just prefer minimal or no shimmer.
Revlon Colourburst Balm Stain | £7.99
I was definitely a little late to the party on this one, as in all honesty, I'd swatched a few shades and wasn't really feeling them. However recently I came across the shade Romantic (a deep red-berry) and just had to snap it up. I love the 'bitten' look this balm gives and the formula seems pretty identical to Clinique's.

Bourjois ColourBoost Lip Crayon | £7.99
I only own one of the Bourjois lip crayons as they do err towards brights and very light nudes, however Sweet Macchiato is a lovely, deeper rose-toned nude. Again it's very similar to the originals, however I actually find this doesn't last quite as long as the Clinique on the lips as I find myself touching this up every 3 hours.
All in all, I haven't found anything similar to the Clinique Chubby Stick Intense formula, so if you're going to splurge then I'd recommend those. As for the original Chubby Stick, I think the offerings from Seventeen, Revlon and Bourjois are virtually identical in formulation and across those ranges I'm sure you'll be able to find an equivalent to all the Clinique shades!

I love the look and sound of the Seventeen ones, so I'll definitely be trying some of those :) Although, I'd love to buy a real Chubby Stick!

xx
If you do invest in them, I do think the Intense formula is a bit more special :) xx
DeleteI would absolutely love to get the Seventeen Lip Crayon in Knockout! I have one in Playful and it's a gorgeous colour but a lot more suitable for Spring and Summer! Unfortunately I can't buy Seventeen where I live! I only have that one because Seventeen sent it to me! Xx

These are all really great! I need to save this for my own reference when I go shopping ;) xx
ReplyDeleteThe Girl From the North | An Amazing Giveaway Here!!
I really like the Soap & Glory options. I have Nude-ist and an amazing coral shade. I also really like the Revlon ones. Their plum shade is fab!
ReplyDeleteKirstie | www.kimamelybeauty.com
I love Nudist, it was a favourite of mine over summer! xx
DeleteI love lip crayons and these colours are amazing! I'll definitely be looking into the Seventeen ones next year! x
ReplyDeleteHolly ∣ Closingwinter
The Seventeen ones look lovely. I really need to get myself to Boots and have a good look at their stand :)
ReplyDeletePams Stuff and Things
I only have one Clinique Chubby Stick and I used to like it a lot but recently I found myself preferring lipsticks with most opaque finish. Having said that the Seventeen's crayons look and sound great! x
ReplyDeleteMummy’s Beauty Corner
I completely forgot I had the Bourjois lip crayons, I must dig them out again!
ReplyDeleteSara - She Who Is Short
I always forget about mine too but it's such a great one :) xx
DeleteI love the Soap & Glory and Revlon ones. I might have to check out the Seventeen versions too - they look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLaura x FloraLooTwo
I love lip crayons, my favourites are from Revlon. I'm not so sure if I want to spend more money on Cliniques, I rather buy something more pigmented?
ReplyDeleteMiriam ♥ A whole lot of serendipity
Amazing swatches, I only own one Clinique Chubby Stick and I don't really like the formula. Maybe I'll like some of the dupes better.
ReplyDeleteKelly // Perfect Shade of Mauve
I'm not hugely into tinted balms but I recently tried Seventeen's Lip Crayon in Heartbreaker and really liked it. I don't think I love them enough to splash out on Clinique's offerings- although the Intense Formula does sound lovely- but I do love the look of Revlon's Romantic. It looks very subtle!
ReplyDeleteKatya | The Beauty Harbour
Yeah I really would opt for Seventeen over Clinique's original Chubby Sticks xx
DeleteI love the Revlon balm stains as unlike most of the chubby sticks they do last ages! :) That colour is beautiful too. Soap & Glory will always be my favourite though. So creamy and smell delicious :)
ReplyDeleteKat | www.kathorrocks.com
I love the S&G versions! I like the new versions too but I'm a bit sad they are discontinuing these as Nudist is one of my favourites and I find the new nude shade has a lot less pink in it!
ReplyDeleteDanielle's Beauty Blog
I really want to try Soap & Glory's offering on these - I've tried some from Rimmel and quite like them!
ReplyDeleteLucy | www.foreverseptemberr.blogspot.co.uk
Goodness, you've got quite a collection! I'm loyal to Clinique's chubby sticks but personally found Bourjois' Colourboost crayons a lovely tint for the lips x
ReplyDeletebohorush.blogspot.com
I have two of the Rimmel colour rush balms and I really like them, the shades I have are a bright pink and a deeper pinky berry shade, which you might like. The Seventeen shade range looks lovely :)
ReplyDeleteVelvet Blush
They're well worth checking out :) xx
DeleteKeep Muavin looks amazing! I don't own any chubby sticks yet so might check these ones out.
ReplyDeleteJoyce // Joycentricity
I like lip crayons for an understated, everyday lip colour - lipstick can be a bit much for things like work. I have a brown Revlon one...nice colour but very drying and zero staying power. I tend to put a little clear lipgloss over it, or the Maxfactor Lipfinity clear balm top coat.
ReplyDeleteA lot of faffing about though, I recommend coloured lip glosses if you have dry lips.
– Lubna | The Digital Review
Such a fab overview, I have one of the clinique chubby sticks and then I've always opted for cheaper alternatives after that! I love wearing them for a more casual everyday makeup look, my favourite dupes are the revlon balm stains x
ReplyDeletehttp://jodie-melissa.blogspot.co.uk/
I was the same with Revlon, I swatched a couple of the balm stains but I didn't really like the formula that much, it seemed kind of sticky? I'm all for dupes but I actually really want to try some of the OG Clinique Chubby Sticks.
ReplyDeletewww.thesundaymode.blogspot.com.au
I didn't find that personally. I think the originals are nice but personally I find the formula the same as cheaper alternatives, I much prefer the Intense version xx
DeleteAll of these lip crayons look so beautiful! I have some of the Revlon ones and I personally love them and might have to try some from other brands :)
ReplyDeleteYousra | Mystic Tales
This is a fab post! Have you tried the L'Oreal 'Chubby Sticks?' I don't remember what their official names are off the top of my head- (Glam Shine??) but they're another great alternative to Clinique. The shade range is lovely too. I have Chubby Sticks and various other, 'dupes' in my collection.. I do love a lip crayon! xxx
ReplyDeleteKirsty - Effortlessly Excessive
I haven't actually, will have to keep an eye out for them ;) xx
Deletei used to really love chubby sticks and i esp loved Romantic from revlon which you show cased here. red oranges are my jam! but, i've been on a major decluttering mode lately and i think i've moved on from these type of lip products. they were really great when i just got into makeup b/c most were sheer in formulation but since i've matured in my makeup preferences, i've given most to a better home.

A Beautiful Zen
Thank you for your comments - I hope you enjoy some of these dupes :) xx
ReplyDeleteThis is a very comprehensive review of chubby lipsticks. I have been eyeing them for some time but I have never tried any.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Clinique for years but their products are just too expensive. Its a little overkill on products that claim to do the same thing - think if they come up with something new and better, then they should fade out the old.
ReplyDeleteI now use the Somaluxe Lip Rescue to avoid lip wrinkles - and it makes my lip stock / gloss just look so much better. And its half the price.
