The Under £5 Makeup Brushes Put to the Test | Born Pretty Store*

Although I've read about eBay, Amazon etc. dupes for high-end brushes for unbelievably low prices, I'd never actually tried any of them myself. So when the Born Pretty Store asked me if I wanted to try some, I was intrigued to put them to the test! Don't forget, you can also get a 10% discount on the site using the code JAZH10 on full-priced items.

This is a synthetic contour brush with tightly-packed bristles. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised at the feel and quality of this brush. It's sturdy and the bristles feel really soft, not at all plastic-y. I love it for applying a cream contour shade as it fits perfectly into my cheek bones. It's also nice for power contour products. I've washed it a couple of times now and there's been no shedding!

This is an obvious dupe for the Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush, which comes in at an eye-watering £43! I've never tried the Nars brush so I can't compare the two. I don't doubt the Nars is superior in quality, however I was surprised at how much I loved this. I've been alternating between using this for blusher and for bronzer as it works perfectly for both. When I'm using it for blusher, I use light, circular motions on the apples of my cheeks. When I use if for bronzer it fits nicely into my cheekbones. The slightly-tapered tip is what makes this brush great for both. Whilst the (also synthetic) bristles aren't as soft as the contour brush, I think it works as this applies powders so nicely and evenly, picking up just the right amount of product.

My first uber-bargain brushes and I have to say I'm impressed! I really wasn't sure what to expect but I like these better than some much more expensive brushes in my stash and I'd recommend them both for anyone.

Have you tried any super-affordable makeup brushes? What did you think of them?

I bought a brush some months ago (it was like 2 euros) and it's pretty good but I don't use it that much cause I tend to use the same two brushes and I use them for everything hahaha x)

  20. I have been saving up for some Zooeva brushes (they are just so dang pretty!) but now you have me second guessing my makeup brush splurge when these sound so lovely! I have had good luck with Ecotools though I feel like they wear faster than my higher end brushes. xo

  22. It's amazing some of the high quality brushes you can get at low prices. I remember buying fake mac brushes from ebay (I did not realise they were fake and I was only about 16 - we all make mistakes) but they were actually really good and I still use them today.

  24. I love how similar the NARS dupe is haha, very cute exterior and the brush head seems like it would work well as a multi-task brush, for such an awesome price what more could one ask for? ^_^

  27. I bought the contour brush from Ebay, it looks exactly the same :D. The quality is amazing! I think I prefer a bit smaller brushes for contouring but it's still an amazing brush. The other one sounds great too :)x

  28. I definitely think everyone should give dupes a try not only with makeup brushes but with lots of things. They tend to get brushed aside as being low quality but you would actually be surprised how high quality they can be, and considering they're usually like 1/10th the price of the "real" version I'd say it's worth it to give them a shot and see for yourself!
