When had the chance a few weeks back to try Cover FX, I was a little sceptical to begin with; I find it sooo hard to find a decent colour match in bases and also I'm just really fussy! I often change my mind on bases just because when you first start using something new it's different to what you're used to so you have to give it time. However having trialled both the Natural Finish Oil-Free Foundation* (£34) and the BB Gel Mattifying Anti-Blemish Treatment* (£35), I can safely say I recommend them both!
Let's start with the Natural Finish Foundation. I am actually between shades (G50 and G60) in this as I've just got back from holiday, however whilst it's annoying not to have the perfect match right out of the tube, I do really like the finish of this! This is a genuine build-able coverage; you can sheer it out without it looking strange and patchy and you can build it up without it looking heavy or cake-y. It's definitely not a 'no makeup' makeup base, however it comes off looking like a natural foundation.
I also love that it's oil-free as it's not an out-and-out matte finish (which can be a little dull, drying and unflattering) but it doesn't worsen my facial shine. I actually think this would be great on a lot of skin types as it's not dewy or drying. I really like the coverage as well; it's not too much for the daytime and even worn quite sheerly, I found it evened out any redness and improved the look of blemishes and dark circles as much as foundation alone can. This is a really great one to have in your stash as it's just a good everyday base which allows you to decide the level of coverage you need/want at any given time. It's pretty long-lasting; by the end of the day it's only rubbed off my nose a bit (from using tissues as my hay fever is so bad right now!)
Finishing up we have perhaps one of my favourite beauty discoveries of this summer: the BB Gel! I was definitely a little unsure on this one as it's billed as a BB gel/anti-blemish treatment and I didn't know how that was going to pan out! Shade G Medium-Deep ended up being the perfect match for me right out of the tube, which was a good start as most of the BB creams people rave about (like the Body Shop Tea Tree BB) simply do not have a good shade in the line for me, however Cover FX have one of the best selections I've seen for this type of product. I absolutely love how it goes on as it actually has really good coverage whilst still being very lightweight. Most days at work I wouldn't dream of just wearing a BB, however I regularly do with this one.
I love the finish as it doesn't cling onto dry patches and it gives that 'matte glow' look I love, where your skin's radiance shines through without any wetness or dewiness sat on the surface. Above all it withstood the 100 degree heat on holiday, even on my oil-slick face! As for the anti-blemish aspect; I break out like crazy in the heat, no matter what I do, however this year it seems to be a lot tamer. Coincidence? Maybe! Either way I can't rave about this enough and will definitely re-purchase it next summer. I've never felt this way about a BB cream before! £35 is a lot for this type of product but this is really in a league of it's own and I prefer it to my Nars Tinted Moisturiser in all honesty. (For drier-skinned ladies, they also do a CC Cream.)
Here are some swatches of the products just dispensed, partially blended and then fully-blended. Note: my arm is super-tanned after my holiday but my face not so much!

I'm all about the 'matte glow' so these sound perfect for me! I haven't tried anything by this brand before but I'm going to look into picking a few pieces out as they look like really great quality products.

Finding a base that suits you to perfection can be so tough to do and I hate that I can love it one minute and hate the way it looks the next. Cover FX has been on my radar for quite some time now and I really want to try the Custom Colour Drops but want to make sure I try it in store first before buying x

DeleteI haven't tried the Gel bases before but I do have two of their cover drops and I am just not a fan. It has put me off of the entire line.

The fact that the BB cream gives a matte glow and that it can withstand 100 degree weather is a testament in and of its self! I love matte products! Not to mention, it's possibly helped you NOT break out. I break out every summer too which can be a bummer. I've been trying different things to see what will not clog my pores or melt off lol. xo

I don't know how I hadn't tried them sooner :) xx
DeleteThese look great. I love the sound of the BB gel. Although my skin is more on the dry side, I can get slightly oily in the T zone, so I have been getting into satin finish bases. Matte glow finish would probably be good for me. x

I've never heard of these before but they both sound really great. Love the sound of the BB gel, especially that it's anti blemish! I'll definitely have to take a look into these now as I've been looking for a new summer base! Great post x
