April Favourites

At risk of sounding like a broken record: I can't believe it's time to do my monthly favourites again! This one is a special one as I've finally come full circle as my first ever favourites post was for April of last year. If you fancy a giggle you can check that out here. I must admit this is a bit of a high-end favourites list, as that happens to be what I've been picking up this month, if you would like to see more budget picks I did a 10 Favourites Under £10 post about a fortnight ago. Without further ado, it's April favourites time...

Amazing for my nostrils, not so amazing for my bank account: April was the month I discovered Diptyque. The two products I picked up were both absolutely incredible so I had to include them in my favourites. My first buy was the Standard Candle in Noisetier (£40). Personally I think if you're going to spend so much on a candle, go for something you genuinely love not just the one everyone's hyping up. I'd never heard anything about this fragrance but well and truly fell for it. It's a hazelnut scent but I feel like that doesn't do the depth and complexity of this scent justice! It definitely lasts longer than my Yankee Candles but as you can see I've been burning it a lot, so maybe I need to slow down as I won't be wanting to spend £40 re-purchasing any time soon. My second purchase was the Eau de Toilette in Philosykos (£75, 100ml, review here). Again, sorry for my poor attempts to describe fragrances... It's a cedar wood and fig leave fragrance so it has fruitiness, woodiness, femininity, masculinity. It's just a gorgeous scent that's going to be my go-to this summer. I've never smelled anything quite like Diptyque's fragrances and I'm well and truly hooked.

I have two mask-type products that have seriously impressed me this month. Firstly is the Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask (£31.85). I've mentioned before I've had mixed experiences with this brand; I loved the curl-defining cream but didn't get the hype over the treatment everyone loves. This is seriously a game-changer! Although my hair is definitely still in need of a cut, this has made a massive difference even just after a few uses. My hair is a little damaged but after using this it's looking so much sleeker, feels softer and is just healthier all-round without being too heavy or leading to build-up. If you're not sure about dropping so much on a product you've never tried then you can get a small tube for a more purse-friendly £9.55 here. The second mask I've been loving is the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Face Mask (£21.99). If you hate those stiff, drying face mask then this is for you and it's done wonders for balancing my combination skin. I've never come across a product that's both hydrating and blemish-clearing but this one is! The ingredients are so natural, it smells wonderful...This is definitely worth the hype for me.

I went through a bit of a phase at the start of the month where none of my foundations were really doing it for me, so when Feel Unique did one of their fantastic sales I decided to snap up the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation (£29.50). I'd never tried this before but after so many people in real life as well as on blogs had raved to me about it, I thought it would be worth a shot. I wasn't disappointed at all! It lasts so well throughout the day and I don't even have to re-apply powder to my t-zone. The flawless coverage is medium and really easy to build on. I have the shade Cashew, which is a tad orange on me but with summer on the way I think it will soon be perfect.

As you may have noticed, I've been a little blusher mad recently... I had enough Boots points to buy the Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Ginger (£16.50). The packaging is so cute, I almost don't want to use it so it doesn't lose the lovely flower pattern! Ginger is such a lovely shade; the name makes it sound like a muted, autumnal shade but it really isn't, it's more like a deeper peach tone. I really recommend it for medium and deeper skin tones who find the peach colour a bit too light. The second one I picked up, in Space NK's recent discount event, was the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush (£28, post and swatch here). As I've already said, I was underwhelmed by the powders in this line however I really love this blusher and in hindsight wish I'd got two of these instead! Luminous Flush is a bright pink coral shade with really good colour pay-off considering it's merged with a highlighter. It's so natural and long-lasting on the skin and adds a beautiful, highlighting pop of colour with minimal effort.

I'll definitely be writing a post on this brand as I think they're so underrated. I've picked my favourite as the Lipstick Queen Saint Natural (£20). This is a sheer lip colour in a natural pink shade that's just a really pretty everyday colour I think would suit so many different colourings. So keep an eye out to hear more about Lipstick Queen!

Finally, Boots had their 3 for 2 mix and match, so of course I grabbed a few bits! My first highlight (no pun intended) of the bunch is the No7 Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter (£9.95, swatch here). This is just the perfect everyday highlight on my skin tone. It's a bronze-gold colour with a subtle shimmer that's just so easy to apply and looks so natural on the skin. My second drugstore pick is the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil (£8) as I've barely used any other product on my eyebrows all month. To be honest I'm not usually a fan of pencils, I guess I have bad memories of heavy-handedly drawing on my brows at 18 with the Rimmel Brow Pencil... However this is great as it's quite ashy in colour and so looks more natural, and also the fact it's twist-up means you don't have to worry about keeping it perfectly sharpened. I also love the spooly you get on the other end.

What do you think of my favourites and what were yours this month?

  23. Great post, I'm loving your pictures! Clinique always has such cute packiging but I feel it is kind od pricey. I heard many bloggers talking about E.L. Double Wear, I must try it. A few weeks ago I bought L'oreal Lumi Magique which I love but it does not have a full coverage.
