Review & Swatches || New Makeup Revolution Beyond Flawless & Flawless Mattes Palettes

I didn't need another neutral eyeshadow palette, but when has that ever stopped me? Makeup Revolution released 2 new Ultra Palettes: Beyond Flawless and Flawless Mattes (£8 each). The original Flawless palette is a favourite of mine so of course I picked these two up! You can see the post on that here (it's one of the most popular ones ever on my blog!) and all 64 shades swatched behind the jump...

The thing I love about the packaging is that it's actually really compact for the amount of colours in there. They're really travel-freindly as the packaging is sturdy and there's a huge mirror. You can take one away and have everything you could possibly need for the week.

For both palettes, my swatches run from left to right, moving down row by row

We'll start with a closer look at Beyond Flawless. It's mostly shimmers with one or two more glittery shades, some with a pearlescent finish and of course a couple of mattes. Is it just me or is this kind of like they squeezed all 3 Naked palettes into one?

The first row are your classic base and highlight colours. My favourite shades are Light Caramel, Expresso and Chestnut. Dove is also a lovely shade; it looks matte in the pan but once you apply it, it definitely has a pearly sheen. The only shade I really don't see myself using is Bare Pink as it's a bit powdery and glittery, whereas the others are smooth with a nice amount of shimmer. So far so pigmented...

This next row has two matte shades; Brunette (a really nice pink-grey) and Sandstone, which looks like it has poor colour pay-off but it's actually not too bad at all; it's just basically my skin tone! I'm not mad on Nightfall as it's a little hard to blend, however in small amounts you can use it to smoke up your look a bit. I really love the colours Bronze and Autumn but Cookie Dough is a nice cooler shade too.

There's only one matte shade on this row; Tawny and though it isn't that pigmented it's an easy-to-use crease colour. I think the shade I reach for most is Teddy from this set and least is Blackest, as I found it a bit hard to blend. You have pretty much any shade you need to make a neutral eye look a little more smokey and evening-appropriate.

Onto Flawless Mattes. I'm not a big mattes sort of girl so I'm happy just to send £8 and have a variety of matte shades if my mood calls for it!

I was pleasantly surprised that (apart from the first 3 looking quite similar) even these very light shades have a distinct colour to them. One of my issues with matte shades is that they can sort of merge into a same-y mess on your eyelids. However these shades are pretty distinct to one another. I really like Sand as an all-over base. I did fin that Flaw, Nutmeg and Pearl especially had quite a bit of fall-out.

This set introduces a little bit of colour but nothing too scary. Antique and Nut are my most-used colours out of these as they're perfect for adding a bit of depth, even on top of a shimmery eyeshadow.

These are your darker shades. The only colour in the entire palette that's not quite as smooth and easy to apply is Carbon. I really like the colour Earth though, as it's a sort of dark plummy colour that's a little more intense than the browns I usually go for! Oak is another great crease colour too and Olden works well all over the lid.

Gold look using Beyond Flawless

Overall I do prefer Beyond Flawless as I do have a preference for shimmers, though I have to admit it is similar to products I already have! I you're looking for a neutral palette with just about everything you need for a springtime look then this is an inexpensive, top-quality product. It can be a little overwhelming however if you look at the shades in vertical columns you have 4 complimentary shades and that's a good place to start.

Brown matte look using Flawless Mattes

Flawless Mattes is perfect for people like me who just need one multi-purpose matte palette. Also for beginners I think these are really easy to use. I find matte shades difficult to work with for the most part but even I managed with these! I really don't think you'll find this amount of variety of matte eyeshadows anywhere else for such a low price and with such a good formula.

I'm not completely obsessed with either of these like I was with the original, but to be honest I gravitate towards more Autumn/Winter shades in general. However they're a very good quality product if you're looking for these sorts of shades so I do recommend them.

  5. How funny, I just posted a review of the Beyond Flawless palette :) Just like you, I'm not crazy about it, it's a great palette with some pretty shades but it lacks some wow factor for me and I found the shades being so similar one to another. I'm not a matte shadows girl so I wasn't tempted by the Matte palette but there are some nice shades as well. x

  7. Wow these look gorgeous, although some of the matte swatches don't look pigmented enough for me. You can't really complain for £8 though, but I would definitely pick up the Beyond Flawless one! Cookie Dough is lovely :)

  11. I don't like matte shades as well, but sort of need or wish I had them. So, since you're pretty much the same, I just wanted to know if the matte shades stay on well or does the color fades through the day? Because this is a really affordable matte palette, but I also have problems with matte shades, since most of them look like nothing on me. I just want some that would be pigmented and cheap:).

    1. Sorry for the delayed response - I'm a little behind on my replying! I always use a primer but I did find that they stayed, just 12 hours down the line it was a bit smudged in together! xx
