Worth the Hype? || Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balms

It seems like no blogger's Muji drawers are complete without a selection of Maybelline Baby Lips shades, and at £2.99 each I purchased a few colours.

I think they're a cute little product for those new to makeup or if you want something slightly tinted but still hydrating for a beach getaway, but outside of that I have to say I just don't really 'get' it. Maybe I'm missing something but it is what it is; a basic lip balm product with a slight colour to it. I'm not a fan of the frosty finish of some of the shades and overall they're just nothing particularly exciting.

I own quite a few shades because I kept buying them in the hopes I would understand what all the fuss is about but I don't hugely rate any of them! I can see why young teenagers would like them as they're the sort of thing you could get away with wearing at school, however as someone quite a bit older than that there are countless sheer lip colours I'd choose over these.

They're £2.99 at the end of the day so if you want to try them for yourself it's hardly going to break the bank; I'm just confused as to why they have so much love.

So are they worth the hype?: No

Have you tried the Baby Lips range? Did you think they were worth the hype?

  1. One of the youtubers I like to watch (hollie forrest) bought every single baby lips that has come out and raved about them so much. I gave them a try and thought they sucked to be honest! Weren't hydrating and didn't wear nicely enough as lip colours! Not seen the hype either. Glad to see someone else agrees! X

  2. I have a really strange relationship with the baby lips. I have 3, one from the electro line, one from the regular line and one from the Dr. lips line. They are nothing special. They are not even that hydrating or balmy. But I keep wanting to buy them every time Maybelline comes out with new ones. But I've been good so far, and I haven't caved in and bought any more of them. But yeah, I don't really get the hype either. I prefer my Eccense lip balms, same concept but they are more hydrating for me.

    1. I think it's the cute packaging and variety of shades that makes them seem appealing! xx

  3. I agree that they are not worth the hype. I had a few and didn't rate them at all!

  4. I've never tried them, I wasn't even interested in them at all, and after reading your review I'm sure I will stay that way :) x

  5. I quite like these packaging and they do smell lovely.
As for hydration, I do not find that these provide me with the moisture I need for my dry lips.
The tint in the lipbalm is not visible at all on the lips~ I just don't bother with them anymore as I would rather invest in a better lipbalm.

Thank you for reviewing, I hope you have a lovely day ♥

  6. I have 2 and find them pretty useless. They're just not hydrating enough and therefore not worth the hype. I much prefer the Nivea lip balms. X

  7. I didn't buy them as there was a lot of hype about them but at the end of the day they're just lip balms, and I already know which lip balms I prefer :) x

  8. I bought one of these a good while back thinking it would be great for my ever so dry lips but I agree totally not worth the hype and I havent bought any more since. Great honest review x

  9. i do like baby lips because i think they're pretty pigmented for a tinted lip balm, but i did think there was a massive hype for a so-so product, i've actually got 3 of them but i've stopped there because there are nicer lip balms out of there to be honest - like the honesty in this post, it's really refreshing to see someone tell it as it is in a review :-)

    1. Fair enough! It is a bit bewildering that a simple tinted balm got so much hype haha. And that you - I could never mislead readers about my opinion on things :) xx

  10. I actually do like the baby lips range, I feel they are just great for an everyday lip balm when you're unsure as to what to put on your lips in the morning and I think they work great under a matte lipstick if you're prone to dry lips but well done on the honest review. It's nice to see a much more down to earth post! x

    1. Fair enough - I suppose I just have so many sheer/everyday lip colours for when I'm not sure that these are always the lowest on my list! And thanks - glad you appreciate y honesty even if you disagree :) xx

  11. I agree with you. I have the medicated version which is cute (it's got white packaging and is pink) but I honestly don't find it does much... there are other lip balms I like way better. Thankfully they are cheap and often on sale!

  12. The packaging is cute, the name is cute and really for me that's where it ends. Really hated these balms when I had them and I automatically threw them away! Much prefer EOS, Bee Good and Burts Bees!

  13. I use mine all the time in order to get rid of it. It's not crazily amazing in terms of colour, I don't find it overly hydrating and the hype just seems a little... false? I agree, it's not breaking the bank but they were raved about so much I am a little disappointed. I was hoping the electro range might be a bit more pigmented, apparently not going by these comments!
Plus the peachy one looks and smells a little chemically. I don't like it.

  14. I picked up a couple of these before I went on holiday and was totally unimpressed. They weren't at all hydrating and even though they're cute and affordable, i'd rather spend more on a better product. My EOS SPF balm did a far better job x

  15. I really didn't like these either, I just don't get what all the fuss is about! If anything they made my lips MORE dry than before I'd worn them.

  16. I think they are OK. Not very hydrating though which after seeing reviews I was hoping they would be. I like that some are tinted and I do look for colour reviews before buying any. Think I have about 6.
Oddly enough I find they're better than many lip balms I own such as a pomegranate burts bees and even a lime carmex one! Most of the time I prefer lip balms to be more waxy such as lipsyl though.

  17. I can see what you mean about baby lips, but personally I love pink punch. It has huge colour payoff on m lips, keeps my lips hydrated on long haul flights and are perfect for the beach! That said, they're defiantly a balm and don't replace my love of lipstick and gloss ;)

  19. I agree. They are not worth the hype. I have Pink punch and I barely use it. It's a basic lip balm! Since everyone was talking about it I thought It is great, but then disappointment.

  20. when i first got these i really didn't think they were worth the hype but actually having them around for more than a year now i can see where it fits into my collection. the thing that i really like about them is that they have SPF15 or 20. i forget which. so they ended up being my only lip products when i go travelling to warm and sunny places. but aside from that, thats about it.
