REVIEW & SWATCHES || Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette in Golden Sugar

It's time for the second review from my haul of brand new products Makeup Revolution has released! I must admit, when I saw this I was ridiculously excited - I rarely find highlighters that work for my skin tone so I pretty much use the same Sleek highlighter all the time. I wouldn't be put off Golden Sugar (£6) if you have a paler complexion because the shades that work as highlights for me will work as blushers for you. The shades don't have names so I'ver just numbered them off for review purposes!

You know the drill by now! It comes in sturdy packaging and there's a large mirror (always a bonus). It shuts securely and it's just quite sleek and functional.

Shade 1

For me personally this is a little too glittery so I only really use it to highlight the inner corner of my eye. It's fine for that but I think paler girls will enjoy this shade more. I didn't really get much of the gold through.

Shade 2

These next couple of shades are similar in colour to the new Hourglass Palette! Although this is quite light and pink I find it quite wearable for the top of the cheek bones - it's pale but not overly frosty.

Shade 3

I probably prefer this purple-pink to Shade 2 a little and I use it in a similar way. It's not insanely shimmery or too bright on the cheeks, it's just right!

Shade 4

I was surprised at how this looked swatched because it does seem more like a blusher, however I find this is the perfect highlight shade for me. I really like the warm gold!

Shade 5

This is more up my street than Shade 1 for a highlight as opposed to a highlighting blusher. It's nice and warm, I don't find it frosty and it looks really natural on the skin.

Shade 6

Another nod to Ambient Blush Palette? I think so...This is one I use as a cheekbone highlight and blusher all in one! It's quite similar to Shade 2 but is a little darker. I do find that by the end of the day it goes a little patchy.

Shade 7

For a while I really wasn't sure what to do with this bold orange-gold. In the end I used it as a blusher, which is a look I actually really like. It is quite bright so won't be for everyone and I did find it went patchy after a few hours.

Shade 8

Finally there's shade 8, as you'd expect the least pigmented as it's pretty much for contouring. It has a matte base but there are tiny amounts of glitter in it. It's a nice warm brown, so whilst I usually go for darker contours it still works pretty well. It's also very easy to blend!

Overall this is more up my street than the previous 2 in this collection and I think it's well worth your £6!

Between these 2 photos I'm actually wearing every shade from this palette as a highlight down the centre of my face, as blusher and as a contour! I'm also wearing Iconic Dreams on my eyes in both - so look out for my review soon!

How do you think Golden Sugar compares to the 2 existing Ultra Blush Palettes?

  1. Great review! Like you said before we pretty much agree what we think about all those shades, with the difference that shade 7 and 8 for me seem to orange-y :) x

  15. Hiya! I was wondering how you think this palette would work for someone of darker, more olive toned complexion. I'd really like to purchase the palette, but not if the contour shade is too light for me to use. Awesome review and thank you!!
