A Little Home-Wear Haul & My Budget Bedroom Makeover

Despite the fact I was living away at university, at the start of this year I completely overhauled my bedroom back home and gave it a Parisian shabby chic feel. I picked up some finishing touches recently and they were total bargains!

These are the little bits I picked up recently:

It all came to around £20, though unfortunately I can't remember the exact prices or find the receipts...

I got the clock for £4 from Dunelm Mill, I just need to put a battery in it...I also got the jug-style vase from them for £6 (I think) which I've used for my IKEA fake flowers. Another recent change is that I decided my owl-on-a-bike Sass and Bell mug was too pretty to drink from so I use it to store my makeup brushes.

This bathroom-style mirror was £5 from Matalan. I moved my full-length mirror out of my room just to have a little more space, so I needed one I could get close to. I wear glasses so I have to get quite up close to see what I'm doing when applying eye makeup!

Finally I got these two vintage-style glass pots for my dressing table from Home Bargains for (if my memory is correct) £1.50 and £2.50! I use the smaller one to put ear buds in and the larger one for cotton wool pads, which are useful for doing my makeup in the morning and my skin routine at night.

A lot of the stuff I got for my room is quite budget as my mum (understandably!) didn't want to give me loads of money to redo a room I wasn't living in and I was a student at the time. However I've been so impressed with what you can get on a limited budget! The only splurge was Urban Outfitters bedding, as I got a 40% staff discount at the time (though it was still very expensive!) However the one above that I alternate with it was from ASDA and I also have a matching wastepaper bin and lamp. Most of this is from IKEA, eBay, Matalan, Dunelm & Primark!

I think the most expensive things were the bed and mattress (which still only came to about £300 for both from IKEA), as well as the wallpaper and paint, from Next (I built the entire room around them). All the work was done for free by family and friends! The final thing to go up is my blinds, which were £30-something from Web Blinds. Then I'm finally done! I'm very tempted to buy a new TV though, as I hate how the pink one I've had for about 8 years looks now...

Do you enjoy making over your room? :)

    1. Thank you! My old room was overwhelmingly girly so I've tried to reign it in a bit given I'm 21 and I still want to like it in a few years :) xx

  8. Such cute pieces! I uploaded some collage pictures on my Instagram a while ago showing how I decorated my new room in college - this has inspired me to maybe do a post about it! I love looking at home decor style posts and I can definitely understand wanting to do it on a student budget. I threw fairy lights over everything haha and found Primark homeware section to be great! Found a little cake stand in Tiger for €4 that makes a nice place to put rings.. it's little things that make it feel more at home :) x

    1. I love Primark's home section too :) my red throw is from there. And I agree about it being little touches that make it feel like home, for a few months whilst I was still at uni it felt really weird to come back to this room but since I've been back I've loved adding the final touches.

If you do a post about your room decor I'd love to read it :) xx

  9. You did a great job, hun! I didn't put any effort into my room when I was in college, lol. Back then we sort of just left it as it was or put some posters up. :-) Yours came together really nicely though!
