My Makeup Bag Staples

I think I'm reaching a point where I just know what I want from the makeup in my collection. Don't get me wrong - I still LOVE trying out new releases but I like having an edited collection of products I know I can trust. Today I'm talking through the staples that are always in my makeup bag!

Base

Primer: Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer | £15 | I've been using this primer every single day since winning it in a giveaway. I've always been conscious of the visible pores I have and the way most foundations can emphasise their appearance even further. As I get older, I'm also noticing that makeup can settle into fine lines, which isn't exactly flattering! I love this primer because it's so smoothing and gives my skin a satin finish. My base applies perfectly over it and I do think it helps with longevity too.

Corrector: Bobbi Brown Corrector (Peach) | £19.50 | I think I'm on about my fourth little compact of this because I use it every single day! It's a cream product that isn't greasy but still applies quickly and easily with my fingers. The tone of it neutralises dark circles, meaning they're less visible without having to cake on the concealer too heavily. I personally like to use this before my foundation for the most natural look.

Foundation: Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (Stromboli) | £33 | This is my holy grail foundation and (besides when I'm having a tinted moisturiser kind of day) I've been wearing this pretty much constantly throughout autumn and winter. I think I'll be switching to something fresher now we're heading into spring but this will always be my favourite! It just gives a flawless, perfected finish without being at all heavy. The coverage is medium-to-full, so it isn't too much for everyday and it has this radiant look without any shine or dewiness. It also lasts all day and can take me from the office to out in the evening.

Under-eye Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (Medium) | £22 | I'm just going to say it: I think this is my holy grail concealer! I hadn't even nearly finished my first tube before buying another two backups... It just does everything I want from a concealer: it's full coverage without being drying, heavy or cakey, it's crease-proof and long-wearing and really brightens up under the eyes. All other concealers have been pushed aside this year.

Face Concealer: Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer (Ginger) | £24 | I actually use this under the eyes too on lowkey days, however this is my quick and easy concealer for hiding blemishes and imperfections, as well as for defining my brows using a winged liner brush. Although it's 'matte', I apply it with my fingers, which warms the product. It barely needs any blending and provides a medium-coverage, natural-looking finish that wears very well.

Powder: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural (Medium Dark) | £25.50 | This is my go-to powder just to hold everything in place and matte down my skin a little bit. It's so natural and traceless on the skin and actually has a bit of a radiant finish. It's impossible to go overboard or end up looking cakey with this one, which is exactly what I need when I'm rushing in the morning!

Setting Mist: MAC Prep + Prime Fix + | £19 | This is such a great multi-use product (it really helps increase the intensity of powder eyeshadows and makes applying pigments way easier) but I've filed this under the 'base' section because it just gives this seamless finish to my makeup when it's misted over my face. It gets rid of any powderiness and leaves everything looking nice and fresh.

Cheeks

Subtle Highlight: Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder in Sunset Glow* | £12.95 | I absolutely love this range of highlighters - it truly is getting high-end quality at drugstore prices! They give this gorgeous sheen to the skin - it's kind of metallic and soft focus - so you get a gorgeous but natural highlight. This shade Sunset Glow is my favourite because it's a sort of warm ambered gold, however the range has something for pretty much everyone.

Intense Highlight: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop | £32 | This is my holy grail highlighter so of course I reach for it at least once a week! It's the least powdery powder formula I've ever tried, because the texture is just so smooth and gives a stunning, glitter-free, intense dewy highlight. The colour itself is gorgeous on so many skin tones; it's a sort of warm champagne with slight peachy and gold undertones.

Warm Blusher: Becca Mineral Blush in Amaretto (discontinued) | £32 | I'm really glad I got a backup for this (I have this Split Pan and the original Champagne Face Collection, both from Jaclyn Hill's Limited Edition range) because I use it to DEATH! This is a sort of luminous-matte formula that applies evenly and wears well on my skin. It's pigmented but nothing over the top, so it blends out easily. I love this shade because it goes beautifully with the warm makeup looks I favour - whether it's sunkissed for summer or browns and reds for autumn.

Subtle Blusher: Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love | £25 | I feel like this blusher never really looks like much in the pan or even when swatched but I think every makeup collection needs that everyday blusher you can reach for and know it will work with whatever look you're doing! This is that shade for me - it's a sort of peachy-mauve colour. The formula is also great because it's not too pigmented, so you can apply it quickly and it blends out with zero effort. It never looks patchy and has amazing longevity. It gives a matte look once applied, but the formula does actually contain a very slight sheen.

Deep Blusher: Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Fig Pop | $23 | I can't believe this shade still isn't available in the UK! It's on Sephora if you're doing an order but in all honesty Ginger Pop is reasonably similar and you can pop into Boots for that. This is one of my all-time favourite blusher formulas because it's sort of 'bright but wearable' in that the colours are vibrant but they have a smooth consistency that can be blended out easily, plus the payoff isn't too ridiculous. They have a sort of sheeny matte finish, which I'm a fan of, and wear extremely well. Fig Pop is a warm plummy tone that's one of my go-tos with a berry lip.

Bronzer: Becca Sunlit Bronzer in Ipanema Sun | £32 | It was tough to pick between this and my Makeup Forever one, however I've been reaching for the Becca most in recent months. I love the luminous matte finish it gives on the skin and the fact it's warm without being orange, so it really adds dimension to the face. It also blends out nicely, so you can apply it quickly without ending up looking patchy or stripy!

Liquid Illuminator: Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Rose Gold* | £34 (for full size) | I'm having a bit of a moment with liquid highlighters right now and this is my favourite of the bunch! It has this wonderful molten metal formula and is incredibly intense so you really only need 1-2 drops mixed in with your primer or foundation or 1 drop on the back of your hand applied over your base on the high points of your face with a damp makeup sponge for the most impact. What I love about Rose Gold is that it doesn't have an overly silvery undertone - it's a beautiful warm rosy colour.

Eyes

Eye Primer: Urban Decay Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion | £17.50 | I use this eyeshadow primer every single day and on the rare occasion I've accidentally forgotten to apply it, I've definitely noticed the difference! It has a sort of lightweight sheer cream texture and you only need a tiny bit. It ensures my eyeshadow lasts and doesn't crease, as well as making the colours really 'pop'.

Cream Eyeshadow: ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Sunset Blvd | $5 | When I just want a one-sweep eyeshadow look, this is the product I reach for! It's a gorgeous subtle warm beige colour with a soft golden sheen that's perfect for low-maintenance days. It's incredibly long-wearing and crease-proof too.

Eyeshadow Palette: Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette | £39 | This was a product I didn't expect to love like I do! I got a bit caught up in the hype, ordered it and then sort of regretted it, however it's turned into one of my most reached-for palettes. Of course Too Faced shadows are known for their quality and this is no exception - they have the perfect level of colour payoff and a smooth, easy-to-blend formula. They also last really well on me and the colour family is just my sort of thing. My most-used shades are Luscious (champagne shimmer), Nectar (light gold with soft shimmer), Cobbler (warm reddish brown shimmer), Bellini (pinky peach shimmer), Peach Pit (deep brown-purple shimmer), Caramelised (warm golden brown shimmer), Puree (warm caramel brown matte) and Summer Yum (deeper reddish-brown matte).

Black Liner: Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Stingray | £14.50 | This is my go-to eyeliner for tightlining because it's matte, smooth, pigmented and long-wearing. It just makes my lashes look fuller in a totally naturally way and gives a nice solid line when I do a wing. It doesn't smudge or transfer on me either.

Winged Liner: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black | £14.50 | I love my winged liner and I've been in a long-term relationship I have no plans to end with this one from Stila. It has that perfectly precise tip to get a fine line and the formula is so pigmented and opaque. It really does stay all day without smudging and still looking sharp even after hours and hours of wear,

Smoky Liner: Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Amber Haze | £19 | This is meant to be an eyeshadow stick but I personally love it for smoking out the lower lash line - it doesn't smudge and lasts really well on me. It's a warm golden-brown bronze with a soft sheen that's perfect with my favourite eyeshadow looks.

Mascara: Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £8.99 | Of course my holy grail mascara is always the one I revert to! I've tried a bunch of mascaras at difference price-points but Lash Sensational's combination of clump-free volume, length and curl is yet to be bettered. It doesn't smudge or flake and I use this for day and night because it just gives my lashes that instant 'wow' factor.

Brow Pencil: Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Warm Brown* | £29 | I know this is pricey for a brow pencil but I do really like it! The angled tip really helps to sculpt out the brows and the formula is perfect - it's impossible for this not to look natural yet it isn't too stiff and waxy. It also has great longevity and the colour is really good on me (don't let the name 'warm' put you off!)

Brow Gel: Glossier Boy Brow in Black | £14 | This is a great product for setting the brows or as a quick and simple one-step option for low-maintenance days. It isn't too thick or crispy like some brow gels but does have that soft hold to it. It adds colour and volume to my brows at the same time.

Lips

Sheer Lip: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Petal | £19.50 | These were pretty pricey however I'm so glad I picked up a couple of these tinted lip balms because I use them all the time! They're just my go-to products for low-maintenance makeup days. I think my slightly-more-used shade is this warm pinky-nude. It gives a nourishing wash of colour that's actually more pigmented than you'd think and contains SPF.

Warm Nude: MAC Matte Lipstick in Strip Me Down | £17.50 | Sorry but this one is limited edition, though Taupe (part of the permanent line) is pretty similar in colour and finish. It has a nice, creamy formula and a long-lasting true matte finish. It's a sort of warm beige-y nude that I find wearable for so many occasions; whether it's the office or with a warm smokey eye on a night out.

Light Nude: ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park | $6.50 | I'm such a fan of this formula because it gives the look and longevity of a liquid lipstick whilst feeling and acting like a normal creamy formula. I'd say the finish is more on the demi-matte side, so it can transfer a bit, but I don't mind too much as it's so comfortable. This is a warm peachy nude tone that just always seems to work!

Evening Matte: Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever | £11 | This is the product I gravitate towards for an evening makeup look - it's gorgeous with golden eyeshadow. It's a warm orange-red colour that I love for summer in particular. It's pretty comfortable and not too drying but does wear well and is easy to re-apply. The colour is totally opaque and bold without being too much.

Tools

Base: BeautyBlender* | £17 | I use this everyday for my foundation and under-eye concealer. I dampen it slightly but make sure it isn't too wet and bounce it across the surface of my skin. It gives a flawless coverage and ensures any excess product is taken away, preventing my base ever looking cakey or heavy. I very rarely use a foundation brush these days.

Powder: Ecotools Powder Brush* | £13.52 (as part of a set) | I really like this affordable synthetic brush for applying face powder - it doesn't pick too much product up and just applies it nice and evenly to my skin without getting cakey.

Blush: Real Techniques MultiTech Large Brush | £11.99 | I use this brush every day for my blusher and it can even work for bronzing or blending out your contour. It's the ideal size and shape for precise application and the bristles are synthetic but dense, ensuring they hold the perfect amount of product. It blends out powders with minimal effort.

Bronze: Real Techniques MultiTech Extra Large Brush | £13.49 | This is basically the same as the other brush but it's slightly larger, so I like to use it with bronzer.

Highlight: Zoeva 129 Luxe Fan Brush | £11 | This is a rare exception to my rule of synthetic on the face and natural on the eyes, because it's a blend. It's perfect for light, subtle application of highlighter.

Lid: Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush | £8.99 (as part of a set) | Unless I'm wearing a cream (I tend to just apply those with my fingers), this is the brush I use every single day that I wear eyeshadow. It's just the perfect density to apply powders with a quick swipe. The synthetic bristles also make it long-lasting and easy to wash.

Blend & Transition: Sigma Beauty E35 Tapered Blending Brush* | £10.50 | I seriously rate Sigma brushes: the quality is fantastic and they wash well, looking like new even after me having owned some of them for over 3 years. This is a soft brush perfect for blending shadows together, getting rid of any harsh lines, and for applying a transition colour.

Highlight: Sigma E45 Small Tapered Blending Brush* | £10.50 | I know it's totally ignoring the name but I find the shape of this brush perfect for applying an inner-corner highlight.

Crease: Zoeva 231 Luxe Petit Crease Brush | £9 | This is my go-to crease brush because it's so effortless to use. Overall I do prefer natural bristles for eye brushes and synthetic on the face. It's precise and tapered, making it perfect for blending a darker colour into the crease.

Smoke: Zoeva 234 Luxe Smoky Shader Brush | £9 | This is a great flat brush to pack a darker colour on the outer part of the lid and also to take it across the lower lash line for a smoky evening look.
