My Week in Lipsticks #4

Around my birthday I had another fun week where I had lots on, so I thought I'd do another of these posts where I tell you what I did and which lip shade I chose for the occasion...

Saturday

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Strip | $6

On Saturday morning I headed down to Bristol for a weekend with two of my best friends. We didn't really have much planned, as the weather hadn't quite lived up to expectations... So we decided to go for a wander around the shops and grabbed brunch at a place called Spoke & Stringer (what I ate) with another of the girls we know from our uni days in Birmingham. After a quick nap and a makeup touch-up, we then headed out for some food and a few drinks on the Gloucester Road which ended up being a later one than I'd intended!

In terms of my lip colour, I opted for ColourPop's Strip, which comes in their semi-matte, lipstick-feel Ultra Satin formula. It's really comfortable to wear and doesn't smudge or flake, making it easy to top up. The colour is a sort of sand-beige, so to transition into the evening I just used darker, smokier shades on the eyes.

Sunday

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Jane | £25

It felt like no sooner had we woken up that we were on the go again! At around 1ish we had a barbecue at my friend's flat - I got surprisingly into it, too... A load of us (people from uni, friends of friends based in Bristol etc.) had tickets for Sunday of the Love Saves the Day Festival, so after lining our stomachs and having a couple of beers (hair of the dog, and all that..) we headed on down. It was really great as, for only £4 return, you could get a quick 15 minute bus to the venue (they ran to and from it from the city centre regularly all day and into the night). We did have to queue for ages when we arrived at the park but we were in good spirits, so it barely mattered! I honestly didn't know that many of the acts but I almost preferred it that way. There was no needing to be at this stage at that time, splitting up or any of that; we all just kind of bobbed around, though I was sure to get right to the front for Kano closing the show. It isn't a huge festival and everyone was there just to have fun and enjoy the music, so it was pretty easy to get chatting to new people. There was a bit of rain but overall we had such a laugh! For some reason we didn't make it out afterwards; I'm not sure what happened there... (well, I fell asleep on the sofa, but you know....)

My festival makeup look was very much about reds, oranges, bronzes and golds. I have a summer makeup post up soon and for Love Saves the Day, I essentially wore a dialled-up, more glittery version of that. My Pixi Fairy Dust Favourites in Metallic Warmth* (swatches and review) were essential for creating the look and I also used my Stila Magnificent Metal in Diamond Dust* (swatches and review) on so many people! To go with the warm tones, I opted for this reddish-orange terracotta tone; Jane by Nars. It's a very creamy but incredibly pigmented and opaque formula that sits comfortably on the lips and has a very slight sheen. It can transfer slightly but the wear-time is pretty good.

Monday

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Honey | £20

The good thing about festivals is that everything happened so early; there were people vomiting in the grass at half 6 in the evening! So, in all fairness, we were home a lot earlier than the night before and got a fair amount of sleep. I have to say I still felt fairly rubbish though... We had a bit of a lazy morning and brunched at Spicer & Cole (what I ate) before watching a bit of Netflix. We stopped by for lunch with some of my friend's work colleagues before I got the train home to Birmingham and crawled into bed at about 9pm!

A tinted lip balm is pretty much what I always gravitate towards on lazy and/or low-key days, and these ones from Fresh are my favourites! It's very nourishing and actually more pigmented than you might think. It's a warm wash of honey brown nude that goes with most of the makeup tones I tend to wear.

Tuesday

ColourPop Matte Lippie Stick in Brink | $5

On Tuesday it was straight back to work. Sadly we weren't eased in though as we had big monthly meeting in the morning! I'd had a bit of a rubbish night's sleep, which always seems to follow longer breaks with irregular sleeping, so I definitely drank my fair share of coffee and tried to get through as much work as possible in the afternoon before crashing out whilst watching the Office when I got home!

I often reach for Brink on work days; the brown-mauve nude colour always seems to work for me. Although this says it's matte, it's very comfortable and non-drying, so I don't have to worry about it being fussy. At the same time I really do rate its staying power!

Wednesday

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Super Cindy | £24

I was back to business on Wednesday! As I have to do professional qualifications as part of my job, I had the morning to study quietly for my coursework (which is due pretty soon, actually...) I spent the afternoon tying up as many loose ends as possible ahead of my couple of days off for the rest of the week and then headed down to Watford to see my boyfriend for my birthday! We spent the evening with his family but I was still grateful for a nice, early night.

Super Cindy is another shade I really like, especially for Spring/Summer. It's a little lighter and pinker than my usual nudes, however it really works! I love how easy this matte formula is to wear. It doesn't have the most opaque finish but glides on without clinging to dry patches.

Thursday

Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Cary* | £28

The 1st was my birthday! So we headed into London for the day (you can check out my photos on Instagram). We started in Notting Hill at Farm Girl (what I ate), which I'd heard so much about, for a spot of brunch before wandering around the shops in the Oxford Circus/Regent Street/Bond Street area. After that we headed over to Spitalfields to the Deciem store. It was great to catch up with Laura from the brand, who I first met last year, and chat through the products. I also got some amazing new things that I'm currently trialling, so keep your eyes peeled for my round-up! After that we went to Covent Garden and had an amazing sushi feast at Sticks'n'Sushi (what I ate), before going to see the Lion King. It's just a visually stunning show, I think the story is beautiful and the music is so special - I definitely think it's one of the best musicals I've ever seen!

As mentioned in my Birthday Makeup Menu, I chose something a little more special for the day. This is a guilty little pleasure of mine! It's a very creamy, opaque formula that's comfortable to wear and pretty transfer-proof. The colour is hard to describe; it's almost a warm plum tone.

Friday

HudaBeauty Liquid Matte in Girlfriend | £18

Friday was a bit of a lazy day in comparison to my birthday; we just popped into St Albans for a few things and to get some food. To be honest after a week of doing stuff every single day, I was pretty shattered so a chill-out was welcome and I took the opportunity to catch up on some blogging stuff (like writing up this post...)

I'm a little bit in love with Girlfriend at the moment! It's a gorgeous sand-beige nude colour with a completely matte finish that makes you look pulled-together in a few quick seconds. I don't find this overly drying but it lasts on my lips all day long. Seeing them swatched together, Strip is actually quite similar, so there's an accidental dupe for you!

  4. Loving the look of NARS Jane! That looks like a shade I would wear everyday as well! I've been loving sooo many lipsticks lately: Milani Color Statement in Plumrose (my signature color for two years now), Bite Amuse Bouche in 'Thistle' (formula and unique grey-mauve-lavender color are EVERYTHING, and it's not too subdued and pale, so that it still looks flattering), MAC Evening Buzz (I've been on a purple-wearing streak lately, and this paired with a slightly deeper lavender-hued liner like NYX 'Sway' lip pencil, is the BEE's knees, and has been one of my favorites), Maybelline Inti-Matte Creamy Matte in 'Almond Rose' (brightening flesh toned pink, wears beautifully). Yep, I believe that's it! :D

  18. I love how you have quite a variety of shades you wear during you week, I always seem to stick to the same shades regardless of the eye look I'm going for. Tuesday doesn't sound as if you have the best day in the world but at least you could trust the colourpop lippie to last for you and work wonders. I really like the shade brink it's so pretty! Lazy days are the best for blogging and it's nice to do it at the end of the week as a sort of settler in for the weekend
