New Beauty Discoveries | Haul & Review

Though I order regularly from BeautyBay, I do tend to hone in on a select number of brands from their site (Makeup Geek, Gerard Cosmetics, Morphe, Zoeva... you know the drill!) I recently received this package full of products from a load of brands I've never tried before so today I'm sharing my thoughts! Although there were a few misses, there were some amazing new discoveries of products I'd never have thought to try before.

GA-DE GD Basics Matte Eyeshadow Palette* | £19 | This is an all-matte palette (though I'd argue the royal blue seems to have a bit of a sheen to it) with very generous pan sizes. The lightest two shades are slightly chalky and I feel they're a bit too similar to each other for them both to be necessary. However I do really like the three brown shades and the taupe colour to create an everyday look. They blend out nicely, have good colour payoff and last well on me. However for me there's not enough about this palette that's unique. I have similar shades in my Makeup Geek collection that are excellent quality so I'd opt for those over these.

Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara* | £45 (for a set) | This is a brand I've heard quite a bit about in the blogging world, however I've never actually tried their products myself (they focus on eye makeup, if the name didn't give it away for you!) This has a plastic wand, which is my preference and does lengthen my lashes nicely. It doesn't give much volume and it's a very subtle look, however nice enough for everyday wear. It didn't flake or smudge and my lashes weren't left feeling or looking crispy, which is important to me too. It's nice, though I'm not sure it's nice enough for me to go out and buy it when this runs out.

Stila Stay All Day MATTE-ificent Lipstick in Bordeaux* | £15 | I've wanted to try these lipsticks for ages! This is really quite a bold wine shade for me, however if I can't wear a colour like this in Winter then when can I? It's got a smooth formula that doesn't skip or feel dry on the lips when you apply it. It doesn't cling to dry patches but still gives you a true matte finish. It's comfortable to wear but still lasts well, so overall I like the formula and look forward to checking out more shades from this range.

Nailberry L'Oxygene Oxygenated Nail Lacquers in Elegance and Simplicity* | £14.50 each | I'm kind of fussy with nail polishes so I must admit I wasn't expecting a great deal from these. However I've been totally blown away and the shade Simplicity is probably tied as my favourite product out of this entire haul. The formula is one of the best I've tried in a veeeery long time; especially with this being an oxygenated formula, I was kind of expecting it to be a bit watery. I was pleasantly surprised that they go on completely opaque with just one coat. I was so impressed at how well they lasted too; I have very weak nails prone to peeling and my polish usually chips within a day or two. However using these I can make my manicure last all week. Elegance is a light pink and Simplicity is a grey-beige nude. I never would have thought to try this brand so I'm really pleased to have discovered it.

LA Splash Lip Couture Waterproof Matte Liquid Lipstick in Ghoulish* | £9.95 | I have actually tried these liquid lipsticks before and although they have some amazing shades, I'm not a huge fan of the formula. I did have the same issue with this shade in that it applied well (though felt a little drying) however as I began to eat and drink during the day, it did start to flake and get messy. It isn't my usual shade as it's quite a cool, almost greyish-baby pink tone.

LA Splash Art Ki Tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner* | £11.25 | This was my other absolute winner from the entire haul. I never thought anything else would come close to the Stila Stay All Day liner pen, however this really does! It has a tiny brush with a very precise tip that's actually not a felt pen but instead is made up of tiny little bristles. It's inky and pigmented with a very matte finish. It's a pretty bold look so I can see myself reserving this for evening wear, however I really love how it looks. It doesn't smudge, transfer or fade, which is absolutely essential for me as I have quite oily eyelids.

Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eyeliner* | £15 | This is a nice liner, though for me it's more expensive than my Stila liner and the LA Splash liner and I just prefer those two. It has a traditional felt tip applicator, which is very fine and allows you to get a sharp and precise look. It has a 'wetter' finish than the LA Splash liner, if you don't like a really matte look. It does wear well however transfers and smudges a tiny bit when I'm wearing it on a long day.

GA-DE GD True Colour Satin Lipstick in Plum Noir* | £11 | This is a slightly sheeny but very pigmented, opaque lipstick formula. This is a deep, vampy purple colour with red undertones. The finish does mean it transfers a bit, which is my main gripe with this product as it can get messy with such a dark colour. It's a bit daring for me but if you want something bolder than your usual berry lip then it might be worth a look.

Spectrum A01 Large Domed Powder Brush* | £9 | I was pleasantly surprised when I looked this up and it was under a tenner, as I'd seen Spectrum brushes around but always assumed they were a little more expensive. Obviously the design of these brushes is gorgeous; very eye-catching and unicorn-esque but not at all tacky. Ok, a powder brush is probably the easiest brush to get right, but I really like this and would like to try the rest of their range. It's a really good size and has flexible bristles, making it quick and easy to sweep powder over your face. It picks up the perfect amount of product and works with both loose and compact powders.

Artdeco Fixing Powder Box* | £11.75 | I wasn't really sure what to expect from this because I haven't tried much from Artdeco, however it seems I've found a real hidden gem! It's a translucent loose setting powder that's incredibly finely-milled. I'm often wary of translucent powders as they can show as white and ashy on my skin, however this is actually really great. It's so lightweight and traceless on the skin, however does a good job of setting the concealer under my eyes, stopping it creasing or wearing away during the day.

  1. Lovely collection here! I really love that plum lipstick, shame it can go everywhere! Dark lipsticks always do that! I have a lovely dark black/purple and I can't get it on for the life of me! It bleeds all over the place but other shades in the range don't!? Crazy! I really want to try some Spectrum brushes, they look amazing and I have heard such good things!

  3. The Eyes of Horus packaging looks so nice when I've seen it on Instagram, really beautiful, but it's so expensive. Love the Spectrum brushes too, I can never have enough brushes. Great post, Jasmine, it's so fun to try out new brands. I still haven't bought anything from Makeup Geek! I really need to, I hope one day they stock ColourPop that would literally make my life. Thanks for sharing x

  4. I need to start shopping on Beauty Bay more as there are still SO many brands I haven't tried yet. I've been after the new Stila lipsticks for a while too, so that sounds like a good excuse for me to head on there and chuck some newbies in my basket :)

  8. Bordeaux is a gorgeous colour, it is a little bit "I'm here" type colour, however, I'm sure you'd get a lot use of it during the party season :) Good to hear that LA Splash liner is as good as Stila one, it's been added to my wishlist :) I only tried a few things from Artdeco, my favourite has to be their lipstick, creamy and really pigmented! x

  10. Have you ever had any issues ordering from Beauty Bay? My last two orders were lost and now I don't really feel like trying again. The customer service was not great. I discovered Spectrum brushes through them, though, and I'm so happy I did. The mermaid-y collection in the purple clam bag is gorgeous, and I don't regret splurging on it. The brushes are so soft!

    1. I've honestly had a lot of issues with Hermes and a lot of people seem to use them :( (BeautyBay, ASOS sometimes, H&M etc.) but there's definitely been a major issue recently - my order was also lost and I wasn't impressed xx

  17. I'm like you I just go for the well known brands. I really didn't like the LA Splash liquid lipsticks either, I had the same problem. I really need to try that eye liner though, its sounds amazing. I love the sound of the nail polishes too.
