5 Products to Get You Summer-Ready

This year I've been ridiculously ready for Summer since about mid-March! These are the 5 products I really think will get you into the Summer mood and a few of my personal favourites.

A Shimmering Body Oil

If there's one product that will have you feeling like a golden goddess it's a shimmering body oil. A lot of premium brands have done these for a while but it's such a Princess Product, I couldn't really justify £40-60 on one. However luckily there are now plenty of more affordable products on the market. They're the perfect way to nourish your skin whilst giving it a subtle glow. I love these when I'm on holiday and just want my skin to look all shimmery and nice!

My Shimmering Body Oil Picks

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil in 02 Golden Honey | £15

There are actually two shades in the Body Shop's option; a deeper more bronze colour and a more bright gold shade (which is the one I have). This actually contains a subtle self-tan so you do have to be careful with your clothes, however it's great for that first day of your holiday (when your British legs that rarely the light of day come out for the first time in 2016...) It's really nourishing on the skin and gives a very subtle shimmer, along with a bit of a bronzed look. It has a fairly strong honey smell, which I personally love but might not be for everyone.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or Multi-Use Dry Oil with Gold Shimmer | £19

I am absolutely obsessed with the scent of this one. It's that impossible-to-describe, beautiful, deep Nuxe fragrance that just smells of Summer to me! This is probably the most intensely nourishing of the bunch so if you're after the skincare benefits too; this is probably the one to pick. Again, the shimmer is golden but a little more subtle than the other options here as it's quite fine. This is a mini but that's what makes it perfect for travel.

Rosie for Autograph Shimmer Body Oil | £15

Like the Nuxe, this is only available in one shade which is Gold in tone. This has a much lighter scent than the other two, so if you're more into your fresh scents than something really heady then this is the one for you. The texture of it is also a little lighter so it really depends on your preference; it isn't going to give you that intense hydration but if you don't like the thought of putting something heavier on your skin then it's a great choice. The golden shimmer is nothing too over the top either, so all-in-all it's the perfect place to start if you're new to this type of product. I also love the rose gold lid and the design of the packaging.

A Summer Scent

This is quite a personal one but I do still have some of my suggestions below that cover off a lot of the bases! You just have to find the one that's right for you and makes you feel transported to somewhere amazing. I find that whichever scent I wear on holiday, I always associate with that place so smelling it again really takes me back and gets me excited for this Summer.

My Summer Scent Picks

Diptype Oyedo Eau de Toilette | £80 (100ml)

This is such a gorgeous, complex citric but woody scent. It kind of has a fresh element to it but it's also a very deep fragrance. It's completely unlike anything I've tried before and it reminds me so much of last Summer. It isn't the longest-lasting scent in the world but it certainly smells intense when first applied.

Nuxe Prodigieux Eau de Parfum | £43.50

I'd say the intensity of the scent across all of these products is pretty similar, however this is the most long-lasting, which I think will be perfect for when I'm on holiday. Again, this just smells of Summer to me and actually has the same scent as the body oil. It's a unique blend of Orange Blossom, Bergamot, Tangerine, Rose, Gardenia, Magnolia, Vanilla and Coconut Milk.

Diptyque Philosykos Eau de Toilette | £80 (100ml)

This is another from last Summer that I'm really loving using again. It has this gorgeous fruitiness mixed in with some woodier notes from Fig Leaves and White Cedar. There's just something so full and complex about Diptyque scents and this one is a classic.

Sun Protection

Obviously sun protection isn't a Summer-only thing (though it kind of depends on your heritage, where you live in the world and how much time you actually spend outdoors!) but for me it's the time when I'll wear a dedicated product as opposed to something in my foundation or moisturiser. I have quite a few options that are going to suit just about everyone!

My Sun Protection Picks

Vichy Ideal Soleil Face & Body Milk (SPF 50+) | £19

I was really surprised when this arrived (in a good way) at how much product you get in it! I primarily use it for my body but it's good to know that it can be used on my face too in case of emergencies (I haven't found it breaks me out but I'll let you know post-Spain). It doesn't have a strong scent and has a very light texture, though it is a little white, which is why this isn't my first choice for the face. It has SPF50 (meaning you can stay in the sun 50 times as long as if you were not using any sun protection before needing to re-apply) and protects against both UVA and UVB rays. I pretty much always go for a high SPF as something like Factor 15 isn't really going to do much and even 30 means you have to re-apply it really frequently.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid (SPF 50+) | £16.50

I discovered this last year and absolutely love it! SPFs actually tend to 'expire' quite quickly, changing in texture and decreasing in the protection they offer, so I picked up a fresh bottle when I ordered the Vichy from Beauty Expert with a discount code. The reason I love this is that it doesn't break me out, it has an extremely lightweight texture, it isn't going to ruin your makeup if you apply products on top of it and the slight tint stops it leaving your face looking white. I tend to keep my face out of the sun because overall I just find it more comfortable (as long as my head is cool, I tend not to get overly bothered by the heat), but the high SPF means I can apply it in the morning and not need to re-apply too frequently during the day.

Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin (SPF 30) | £9

I bought this to top up my SPF during the day and also because it isn't going to feel heavy or mess up your makeup if you spray it on top of it. It genuinely has the texture of water and feels so light on the skin. It definitely isn't going to be enough all on its own but for me personally it's fine to refresh my skin and give it some extra protection.

Avene Hydrance Optimale Skin Tone Perfector (SPF 30)* | £16.50

This is less of a 'holiday' product for me than the others and more of an everyday product to use in the UK when it isn't particularly sunny but I just want a little bit of protection (kind of just to shield my skin against the effects of living in the city and of any rays that can damage the skin even when its overcast). It has a very light texture and gives a matte finish without being overly drying. I really like that it has a tint to it, so if you're going really minimal in your makeup then it will give a tiny little but of coverage, evening out the skin tone. However it doesn't come in a range of shades so I can't say for sure it won't look orange on fair skin or ashy on deep skin. One of the best things about it is how my makeup still applies as normal on top of it. Even know we all know we should wear one every day, the fact that some SPFs can 'peel' off when you apply your foundation (unless you literally leave it for half an hour) is off-putting. If you ever find that then this is the perfect option.

A Light Base

I've really become a fan of light bases in general, but during the hotter months it's definitely an essential, as no one wants to be sweating it out when it's hitting 100 degrees in Estee Lauder Double Wear! I've picked a few to suit different skin types.

My Light Base Picks

Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint | £30

This is a great option if you want a semi-matte finish. Especially for dry skin, even in the heat you may not want a full-on matte formula so this is a great option. It also contains broad-spectrum sun protection. It has a good light-medium coverage that is easy to build upon. It isn't the longest lasting on oily skin though so I probably wouldn't recommend it in high temperatures if you're prone to shine. However it would still be great for Summer evenings.

Urban Decay One & Done Hybrid Complexion Cream | £25

This is another one that isn't quite matte; I'd describe it as a satin finish. I'd say it has a little more coverage than the Nars Velvet Matte (see a full comparison of the two here). It's much more long-lasting on me, which is essential for me as I tend to get very shiny on my face in the heat and makeup can quickly break down. The easy to build coverage also means it's great to take away with you as it can be blended out for a very natural look or built into something more substantial.

Cover FX Mattifying Ant-Blemish BB Gel* | £35

This is just my #1 Summer base because it's the only thing that stays in place and can hold the shine back when I'm on a beach holiday. It has a very lightweight texture but still gives pretty good coverage. It stops me from breaking out in the heat and sets completely matte (however doesn't feel drying on my skin). It's just so long-lasting and doesn't reduce to an oil slick on me!

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser | £29.50

I really love this, and whilst it does get a little shiny on me in the heat, it's a great everyday base most days here in the UK and dry skin will love it. It has a nice, light coverage but gives the skin such a flawless, radiant look. It's very hydrating but stays in place for me if I set it with a little powder.

A Dewy Golden-Bronze Highlight

It's no secret that I love highlighting all year round but for the Summer, I like to go for something a little more golden-bronze in tone and usually with a fairly dewy finish.

My Dewy Golden-Bronze Highlight Picks

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in That Glow | £39

This is just the definition of dewy gold and bronze highlighting shades! They're a lot more subtle than you'd expect from this brand and they give such a beautiful, natural glow. Sunburst is a bright yellow gold, Golden Bronze is as the name would suggest, Bubbly is a champagne colour and Dripping in Gold is a champagne-gold. The texture is so soft and easy to blend out on the skin.

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Global Glow | £24

This is just 'Summer' in a product! It's really natural on the skin and has this gorgeous dewiness to it, despite looking quite glittery in the pan. Global Glow is just a gorgeous warm bronze shade with flecks of gold. No matter how quickly or imprecisely I apply this, it never looks like too much.

Benefit Sun Beam Highlighter | £19.50

This has a bit more of a metallic sheen to it and has a completely glitter-free formula, however it's a liquid so you still get the dewiness. Again, it has a deep gold colour that's somehow bronze and a little pearly at the same time. I just dab the nail polish-style brush across my cheekbones and blend it out with my fingers for a natural look.

  11. After reading this I do NOT feel ready for summer haha, so many glowy-bronzy products that I need in my life!! Also the skin tone perfector you mentioned is actually really good at adapting to skin tone. I have pretty pale skin and when I first swatched it, it literally looked orange. But on application it really settles down nicely and just looks like my skin but better!

I love the look Global Glow, such a pretty shade!

The Nuxe is my favourite obviously, I love the moisture it gives while smelling great as well. This year I really need to get a good sun protection, that's my main goal!
