That Marble Blog Photo Background for £4!

Long have I envied those perfect Instagram marble worktops I've seen from some of my favourite bloggers, so imagine my surprise when I heard that the rest of us can do the same for £4 from Wilko! Obviously, this isn't my original idea and a few people have pointed it out on blogs or Twitter, however I thought I'd share it with you lovely readers who may not know this little trick. So here is how I do it:

Firstly you can pick up your marble-effect sticky back plastic from Wilko for £4 for the lighter colour or £5 for the darker colour (you get a larger roll in the darker shade for your extra £1). You can either stretch it out carefully and use it like that, cover your dressing table or another surface with it or you can back it with something.

You're going to want to use something smooth, as I tried it with cardboard and the ridges just showed through. If you have anything lying around the house then use that but if you haven't then don't worry. Personally, I just grabbed a kitchen mat for £4 from Wilko on the way to the till as the glass surface is perfectly smooth. Use the grid on the back of the plastic to cut off the right amount and then you can carefully peel away the back and position the mat (or other backing). Make sure there are no air bubbles (by smoothing out the front of the plastic with a flannel or something) and then fold over the corners to stick it all in place. Cut off any excess and voila!

Now all you need to do is set up your photo and use a bit of camera trickery and no one will know that you don't have a gorgeous marble table in your background... Unless they read this post...

  35. I did something similar, but on the back of my foam boards! Since I had two, and only applied the marble vinyl paper to one side each, I now have a couple nice ways to shoot different photos for less than $15! I can still use the white side of one of the foam boards to use as a light reflector too [=

  37. My local Wilko didn't have these so I got some for £10 from Homebase, can't believe you got it so cheap! My roll was huge so I covered the tops of my bookcase and chest if drawers in my bedroom, along with a plank of wood to sit across the bath. It looks amazing, and bonus I can use it for blog photos, winner all round!

I don't have space for a gorgeous white glossy dressing table and my current one is a fitted beech wood type of deal, which is staying o matter what (mums rules not mine haha) so this is a great way to add a bit of beautiful pizazz into blog photos!
