Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 & 2 Palettes | Review & Swatches

They're the dupes every British beauty addict has been waiting for! Makeup Revolution has released two new palettes: the Iconic Pro 1 and Iconic Pro 2, which are really rather reminiscent of two very famous palettes by Lorac! They cost just £6.99 each and can be bought here. Thoughts and swatches behind the cut!

I usually skim over the packaging of Makeup Revolution products, however they're re-vamped theirs for this new release. They have really nice matte lids and actually come with use-able applicators! I own a lot of eye brushes so I do tend to use those, however they've included a double-ended brush in here that people would actually pay money for. One side is flat, to pack on colour and the other is a fluffier blending brush.

Let's have a look at the Iconic 1 first...

If you're familiar with the Lorac Pro Palettes you'll know they have one row of matte shades and one row of shimmers, meaning you get 8 of each.

The mattes in the Pro one are, on the whole, very nice. I found Afflicted and Pitch quite hard to blend but I guess these are the sort of dark shades you'll probably only add a touch of to the outer part of your eyelid. The others have a really nice, smooth texture and I often find myself reaching for Must, Fade and Drama which all have great colour pay-off.

Onto the shimmers! Again I found the darkest two a little trickier to work with. However the texture of all the others is absolutely amazing and I think they look beautiful on the eyelid.  I tend to use Need or Dawn on the inner corner of my eyelid and Breathe as a base colour. Too Grey, Getter and Stage are absolutely stunning and my favourites from the palette. They're just so pigmented and silky soft to the touch.

I'm really glad I picked up the Iconic Pro 2, as I don't think I'd ever have bought the Lorac Pro 2 over the original as the shades aren't what I'd usually go for. However I think there are some absolutely beautiful colours in here and there are only two or three I don't think I'll use outside of testing the palette out.

I think I like the mattes in this palette even more than the ones in the Iconic Pro 1. Paper, Chase, Smooth and New-Tral are pretty much everything you could ever want for a neutral eye look and even on their own they're gorgeous. One Way, New Rules and Sudden were a little difficult to work with, however they're not shades I would reach for much anyway. Grey Day is perfect to transform the other shades into a more nighttime look.

The shimmers are again really nice. I'm not sure if you can tell but Only is more of a white shimmer and Silk is a little more cream. They're both great for highlighting. Awaken, New Day and Steal-er are again gorgeous shades when applied and the texture is dreamy! I struggle to find a use for Echo, purely as it's a bit too light on me for anything and there's a blueish tinge to it, however the texture is still nice. Ambition and Faith (I'm sure you're noticing a theme here!) aren't the most blend-able, however I can work with them.

I was incredibly impressed with the staying power of the shades in both palettes. I do always wear a primer but it's the same one so I can compare how different eyeshadows perform with it. My makeup is on my face for about 12 hours most days and I was amazed at how fresh and non-smudgey these have been every day I've been testing them on a long work day. I'm struggling to think of any palette I own where even the matte shades perform this well.

A few of my favourite matte and shimmer shades from Iconic Pro 1!

I'm not going to lie; I have my favourites and tend to reach for the same shades repeatedly, however I just think the look they create is so beautiful! If you're a little more experimental there are a few more interesting shades in there and each of these can take you from a natural matte look in the daytime to a super-shimmer smokey eye in the evening.

Overall, though every shade isn't perfect (mostly the darkest couple of shades in both the matte and shimmer rows), the majority hit the spot and they are absolutely beautiful in both their finish and their application. I think that the majority have an amazing formula.

  2. I totally want the Iconic 2 as I have just gotten the Lorac Pro and don't see the point in getting the dupe but I just can't justify having another eyeshadow palette. Great swatches though.

  6. I also got both palettes and I really enjoy using them. The matte shades really impressed me, they're silky soft and the colour payoff is really good. Some of the shimmer are incredible and some just ok but we are talking here about palettes for less than £10 each, the quality is really great! x

  7. These look great & are an amazing price! I've avoided the Naked palette dupes as I already own the originals but I'll definitely be picking these two up! I can't use Lorac's eyeshadows as they contain citric acid! I've friends who've offered to send me the Lorac palettes too! :( Tania Xx

  8. These look so beautiful, and such good dupes, although sucks some of the shades are a bit difficult, but for the price can probably deal with that!
